Obama Embraces Al Sharpton With Major Appearance

President Barach Obama launched his reelection bid this week with a video announcement on the Internet — which generated fewer hits than a parody by the Republicans. Now, in his first major appearance since the announcement, Obama will be appearing with Rev. Al Sharpton and speak at the annual convention of the National Action Network which Sharpton founded. Sharpton’s history of race-baiting and demagoguery has made him one of the most divisive figures in American politics. Yet, the President is about to share a podium with him. For liberals who denounced Republicans for their association with Sarah Palin, the question is whether they will be heard with equal vigor in the association with Sharpton.

The NAN website is all about Sharpton, featuring numerous pictures of Obama with Sharpton (including one in the Oval Office). The Republicans are likely to be featuring the same photographs. The website proclaims that Obama will be appearing with Sharpton. Strangely, NAN posted a press release on Obama’s decision to join Sharpton but added “***THE INFORMATION BELOW IS FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY AND NOT FOR DISCLOSURE***” Notably, also joining Sharpton is “MSNBC PRESIDENT PHIL GRIFFIN,” who will be “honored” by the Reverend.

Sharpton has a long history of alleged corrupt practices , tax disputes, and federal investigations. He came to fame with his infamous role in the Tawana Brawley hoax that led to civil liability for Sharpton.

Obama, however, is willing to embrace Sharpton in anticipation of a tough reelection — another example of politics overcoming principle.

  1. Obama said last night

“Like any worthwhile compromise, both sides had to make tough decisions and give ground on issues that were important to them,” Obama said before cameras in the White House Blue Room as he acknowledged some of the cuts agreed to would be painful, with certain programs cut back and other projects encountering delays. “But beginning to live within our means is the only way to protect those investments that will help America compete for new jobs,”

Does this look like someone who should be telling others to live within their means.

  2. Swathmore Mom he’s fixin to lose alot more than that.

Even before Gail Collins was with the New York Times, she has written nasty and derogatory articles about me. Actually, I have great respect for Ms. Collins in that she has survived so long with so little talent. Her storytelling ability and word usage (coming from me, who has written many bestsellers), is not at a very high level. More importantly, her facts are wrong!

As far as her comments on the so-called “birther” issue, I don’t need Ms. Collins’s advice. There is a very large segment of our society who believe that Barack Obama, indeed, was not born in the United States. His grandmother from Kenya stated, on tape, that he was born in Kenya and she was there to watch the birth. His family in Honolulu is fighting over which hospital in Hawaii he was born in-they just don’t know.

He has not been able to produce a “birth certificate” but merely a totally unsigned “certificate of live birth”-which is totally different and of very little significance. Unlike a birth certificate, a certificate of live birth is very easy to obtain. Equally of importance, there are no records in Hawaii that a Barack Hussein Obama was born there-no bills, no doctors names, no nurses names, no registrations, no payments, etc. As far as the two notices placed in newspapers, many things could have happened, but some feel the grandparents put an ad in order to show that he was a citizen of the U.S. with all of the benefits thereto. Everybody, after all, and especially then, wanted to be a United States citizen.

The term used by Ms. Collins-“birther”-is very derogatory and is meant in a derogatory way. Had this been George Bush or almost any other President or Presidential aspirant, they would never have been allowed to attain office, or would have been thrown out of office very quickly.

For some reason, the press protects President Obama beyond anything or anyone I have ever seen. What they don’t realize is that if he was not born in the United States, they would have uncovered the greatest “scam” in the history of our country. In other words, they would become the hottest writer since Watergate, or beyond.

Open your eyes, Gail, there’s at least a good chance that Barack Hussein Obama has made mincemeat out of our great and cherished Constitution!

  3. Bdaman:

I’m looking at the Dems holding a press conference right now as to why there may be a shutdown, they got out the gate first,so we will see as the day progresses who will be wearing the **albatross** for the shutdown.

  4. I don’t think there should be a government shutdown either. What I want to know is how to avoid this in the future. Could you imagine being a soldier with bullets flying at you and not getting paid?
I think in the civilian world most would say fuck it, I quit. Now if my boss said hey, money’s a little tight and I can pay you till next week, might be o.k. with me.

  5. Bdaman:

    FYI.

Not all Republicans think a potential government shutdown would be good for the GOP.
In a memo posted to his website, former Bush strategist Karl Rove points to polling numbers in the aftermath of the 1995 government shutdown that show the issue actually boosted President Clinton’s numbers ahead of his re-election campaign

  6. Oprah Winfrey reportedly does not plan to publicly support Barack Obama in the 2012 US presidential election.

Winfrey supported Obama’s campaign in 2008, holding a highly publicised political rally for him during his presidential challenge.

According to a Gallup poll conducted before the rally, Winfrey’s favourable ratings fell from 74 to 66% while her unfavourable ratings jumped from 17 to 26%.

Her TV show ratings also fell following the event.

A source has told PopEater that Winfrey doesn’t want to do anything to alienate viewers now that she has launched her OWN network.

  7. Once monolithic, blacks’ support for the first African American president is still. . . . immense. But for unclear reasons it’s declined about 7% from well above 90% to 85% in March. That’s a new low since Obama’s inauguration 26 months ago.

Equally ominous for Obama in 2012, his approval among Hispanics, the nation’s fastest-growing demographic, has also fallen to again tie his term low of 54%. That’s a drop of 11 points from its early high of 65%.

  8. “you may not believe this but IMO the Rev has more clout and respect than President Obama in the Black Community.”

Actually Bdaman and Eniobob I do believe it. Sharpton happens to be a brilliant man, an excellent speaker and someone who has the pulse of the issues. I would think the black community respects him more than Obama because the Rev has had the courage to speak out, whereas Obama has rarely made statements that are politically unpopular and from my point of view hasn’t used the “bully pulpit” effectively or forcefully.

My dislike of him doing this is twofold. First, because the Rev has been so slandered by the MSM in great disproportion to his alleged sins, he has become a symbol of fear to white America. It is ridiculous that he faces such opprobrium, in the light of media darlings like Palin, Bachman, Trump etc., who don’t hold a candle to Al in intelligence, integrity or knowledge of substance. Yet the reality is that Obama will find himself villified by this action, the reaction which is understandable given the corporate MSM, to me only heightens the disingenuity of his refusal to back others (like his own Reverend) when faced with criticism.

Secondly, as brilliant as Reverend Al is he does have his venal side as does Jesse Jackson. Certainly the good that both men have done outweighs their personal failings
especially when compared to the likes of those who would villify them, while being far more corrupt. Nevertheless,
black people, being exceedingly more sophisticated politically than their white counterparts will overwhelmingly support Obama, despite his failings, because the alternative is at least disaster in the short run and most probably the long run too. Given this all Obama is doing is giving the Corporate MSM and those that control them another opportunity to engage in a feeding frenzy. Were it not for the ever present racism in many, many Americans, this political move would be seen as strengthening his base. Unfortunately, I think it will play out by giving justification to the unadmitted but ever present racism that runs through our country.

  9. ” Obama has had a profound, disproportionate effect on black women and men. His lack of prosecution for his friends, the financial “savvy business men” who have wiped out entire black neighborhoods through mortgage fraud is stunning. The incarceration rate for black men has gone up, in part also to the gutting of the real economy by Obama’s policies. It is Obama who has stripped the right to abortion from the most vulnerable, poorest women in our society.”

    Really ?

” (Bruce Fein has just drafted articles of impeachment),”

NEWSER) – A Reagan-era Justice Department official has drafted an article of impeachment for President Obama, arguing that by intervening in Libya without congressional approval, he crossed a legal line. “Barack Hussen Obama has mocked the rule of law, endangered the very existence of the Republic and the liberties of the people, and perpetrated an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor,” Bruce Fein wrote in his 15-page argument.

REAGAN HAND BRUCE FEIN THINKS LIBYA INVASION ‘MOCKED THE RULE OF LAW’

SO if Mr. Fein wrote it I guess there is no sense in fighting it.

    Please!!

  10. The betrayal of the vast majority of ordinary black women and men by both Obama, Sharpton and many other black “leaders” has been appalling. The shredding of the rule of law (Bruce Fein has just drafted articles of impeachment), the shredding of the social safety net under Obama has had a profound, disproportionate effect on black women and men. His lack of prosecution for his friends, the financial “savvy business men” who have wiped out entire black neighborhoods through mortgage fraud is stunning. The incarceration rate for black men has gone up, in part also to the gutting of the real economy by Obama’s policies. It is Obama who has stripped the right to abortion from the most vulnerable, poorest women in our society. It is a disgrace to embrace such a man for office. Racism can and is being committed by a black man. Racism committed by a black man does not make it correct or less harmful. Racism seems to have been reduced to “are you for or against Obama”. While true that some people do not like Obama because of his race, to allow this racism to end all talk of racist policies being perpetrated by Obama is absurd.

I certainly see how both men, who show no sign of a conscience, only a will to power, have come together so easily. People of conscience need to stand up to the illegal and immoral behavior on Obama’s part. I recommend the Black Agenda Report for a good understanding a much greater, deeper understanding of racism in America.

I am saying I want to see the birth certificate. It’s very simple. I want to see the birth certificate. How come his own family doesn’t know which hospital he was born in? How come– forget about birth certificates. Let’s say there’s no birth certificate. How come in the hospital itself, okay? This is one of the…in the hospital itself, there’s no records of his birth. In other words, it doesn’t say how much they paid, where is the doctor, here’s your room bill. You know, all the
