Idaho Passes Strict Anti-Abortion Measure After Sponsor Invokes “Hand of God”

The Idaho House just passed a sweeping anti-abortion bill that grants no exceptions for rape, incest, severe fetal abnormality or the mental or psychological health of the mother. As if to avoid any question of the religious basis for the measure, the sponsor state Rep. Brent Crane, R-Nampa, explained to the House that this was God’s will.

Senate Bill 1165 bans abortion after 20 weeks on grounds of fetal pain. Crane invoked the “hand of the Almighty” and “His ways are higher than our ways. He has the ability to take difficult, tragic, horrific circumstances and then turn them into wonderful examples.” The measure passed on a 54-14 vote and now heads to the governor’s desk.

These measures have proven costly to the state. In the 1990s, the legislator passed an anti-abortion law and “spent nearly three-quarters of a million dollars” unsuccessfully defending the law.

Here is the information on Crane from the House website:

Born 07/02/1974 in Nampa ID; graduated in 1992 from Nampa Christian High School, received a B.A. in Political Science with emphasis in Public Administration from Boise State University 2005; Protestant; Vice President of Crane Alarm Service; family: wife Rochenda, son Keaton and daughter Riley.

  1. Jim,

“The House and Senate Dems in November were ousted because of Obamacare and debt.”

No, you dingleberry, it was jobs. Look up any poll on the internet tubes and see what the #1 issue was for people voting the way they did in November, 2010.

    Jesus, you are dense.

  2. Blouis,

I’ll believe the referendums when they actually happen. Until then keep dreaming!

The point we should all agree on–The Constitution.

Madison never expected government to provide entitlements as we do today. That road is costing us. Washington never wanted us to get involved in foreign affairs. That road is costing us. Get back to the basics and we fix our problems.

  5. Jim,
They already have warned the Speaker and every other Teapublican to shut it down if the 100 Billion level isn’t reached. Of course they will oust him if they think it will suit them.
I know as much about the Tea Party voter as you do. There was obviously an element of Obamacare and debt but there were local issues as well. They are all about debt except when it comes to debt that they like. Like the defense budget. You also have to separate your Tea Party voter from the Tea Party financial backing from Dick Armey and the Koch Borhters. What are there interests in getting these candidates into office?? You are the one making these claims, I still haven’t seen any sources for these claims.

  6. Anonymously Yours

They don’t want to shut down the government. They want to get as much cuts as they can in our out of control budget. The Dems over the last 4 years have added over 4 trillion thats right 4 trillion to our national debt. If we don’t inflict much pain now then our entire country will fall. When government gives somebody something for nothing (pell grants, food stamps, extended unemployment, house payments, cell phones, etc.) people come to expect it. When it is taken away you see rebellion as you did in Greece. That is where we are headed because government can’t continue doing as it has been doing.

    Buddha,

You are forgetting that in November 2010 the Republicans made huge gains in state houses across the country. …

    ====================================================

And within 2 short months voter’s remorse had set in and huge movements towards recalls and referendums had begun. Prosser in Wisconsin went from a forecasted easy 60% win to a battle that will, more than likely, result in republican officials serving time in prison. Kasich in Ohio is avoiding public venues and cancelling speeches and begging for funds to fight the referendum that will put SB5 on the ballot in November. That is just a couple of the things happening as a result of November’s election … the list goes on and on and on and on and on and ………..

  8. Jim,

The last 2 years Tax and Spend? Really…where….I want to know….I do…hasn’t every Budget included graft for the wealthy…. oh thats right you’re not wealthy enough to benefit from that…. thats why you see that….did you complain when BushII started the war? Obama is having to carry those out…. hmm….Bush Spending….failure at best…

  9. Rafflaw,

You must not know much about the Tea Party voter. They are all about debt! They were not talking about jobs. Look at how many of them just got elected. That is your facts!

  10. Jim,

You are mixing Apples with Oranges….yes, the Vote heard in November was the challenge to Obamacare…John has not been able to reverse it….so really what have they been able to accomplish? Now, they wanna shut down the Government…what purpose will that serve? Oh yes….to put the screws to Obama….Yes…I like the way you think…I do…it is kind of like….showing people that are Hungry pictures of food and tell them how good it tastes…. well you have done your job…you have shown them how to feel themselves….just get the item in the picture that should fill them and…wait…problem…where are they going to get the money? You see sir that is the problem…

  11. Gyges,

The Dems for the last 2 years have hurt our country economically with tax and spend policies. There is a bill passed by the Republicans in the House that will pay the troops for the rest of the year but Sen. Reid and the Dems don’t want to bring it up because of budget cuts they will also have to agree with and Obama knows that a veto on it would be political suicide. So, who is hurting the country because of their beliefs?

  12. rafflaw,

Do you honestly believe the Tea Party folks will oust the speaker if he stands on economic principle? That is why they got elected in November.

  13. Jim,
I did read what you wrote above, I just think it is inaccurate. Newt caved because of the pressure from the public and his fellow Republicans who realized that he sold them a bill of goods. Why else do you think he was ousted from his speaker position? The President isn’t the only politician who gets blamed for jobs. Where do you get this stuff? The House and Senate Dems that lost didn’t lose just because of Obamacare and debt. Let’s see some evidence of these claims!

  14. Stamford Liberal,

“The Rev. Sir Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, D.F.A” … my hero!

  15. Is this the point where everyone realizes they’re talking to somebody who thinks that hurting the political opposition is more important than fixing the economy?

Is that really the kind of person you expect to be rational and acknowledge facts that run contrary to his beliefs?

  16. Samford Liberal

The president always gets blamed for jobs. The House and Senate Dems in November were ousted because of Obamacare and debt. Don’t mix them up!

  17. Buddha,

You are forgetting that in November 2010 the Republicans made huge gains in state houses across the country. The effects of that will be evident based on the census and the gerrymandering of the voting lines which will be in place for 10 years.

  18. Jim,

    “Jobs won’t get created”

If my memory serves me correctly, the GOP and teabaggers ran on a jobs platform in 2010 … well, they’ve been in office since January and … they still haven’t created any jobs so it’s not as if a government shut down will prevent job creation because John of Orange and his teabagger cohorts haven’t created any jobs yet.

Additionally, I will echo what many here have already said … look back a few years ago to what happened to the GOP with the last government shutdown … just be careful what you wish for, son …

“Some say, ‘Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.’ I say, ‘Those who ignore history are in for a big surprise.”
The Rev. Sir Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, D.F.A

We agree on something. The future job market of this country is eroding before our eyes and the government is doing nothing about it. That is why I propose we stop importing altogether and force ourselves to begin building again and becoming self-sufficient. To do this however, unions will have to let up on wages because we know labor costs are a big part of price. This is where the rubber hits the road.
