The Idaho House just passed a sweeping anti-abortion bill that grants no exceptions for rape, incest, severe fetal abnormality or the mental or psychological health of the mother. As if to avoid any question of the religious basis for the measure, the sponsor state Rep. Brent Crane, R-Nampa, explained to the House that this was God’s will.
Senate Bill 1165 bans abortion after 20 weeks on grounds of fetal pain. Crane invoked the “hand of the Almighty” and “His ways are higher than our ways. He has the ability to take difficult, tragic, horrific circumstances and then turn them into wonderful examples.” The measure passed on a 54-14 vote and now heads to the governor’s desk.
These measures have proven costly to the state. In the 1990s, the legislator passed an anti-abortion law and “spent nearly three-quarters of a million dollars” unsuccessfully defending the law.
Here is the information on Crane from the House website:
Born 07/02/1974 in Nampa ID; graduated in 1992 from Nampa Christian High School, received a B.A. in Political Science with emphasis in Public Administration from Boise State University 2005; Protestant; Vice President of Crane Alarm Service; family: wife Rochenda, son Keaton and daughter Riley.

@Jim: And how does the adjective “EXTENDED” change anything I have said about the effects of helping people during economic downturns?
The Republican mistake is in thinking that people that have had jobs and income want to sit around deprived of all the entertainments they have become accustomed to enjoying. You would think the Republicans could comprehend that when the economy is actually working, and unemployment is at 4% or so, that means that when the unemployment rate is 10%, about 60% of the unemployed would work if they could so they could return to something like the lifestyle they enjoyed when the unemployment rate was 4%.
Why doesn’t that make sense to you? The hardcore unemployed ran out of benefits years ago. Extended unemployment is just helping people longer than we thought would be necessary; in this case the extension is needed because the companies that normally employ that 6% have eliminated the positions, and do not plan to reinstate them. EVER.
So unlike normal recessions, these unemployed cannot just wait for business to pick up and re-enter their old jobs, they need to transition to new jobs. That takes a helluva lot longer than just weathering out an economic snowstorm, this recession, like the great depression, marks a fundamental change in how the world economy will function.
Keeping people from losing everything in this situation is the right thing for us to do, again both morally and practically, because our fates are linked to theirs, like it or not, and if enough of them go down they will drag the rest of us with them.
How stupid can everyone be? NEWT was blamed because he caved. IF he had not caved then Bill would have been blamed. If the REPUBLICANS don’t cave, then Obama will be blamed. Imagine three months from now government still shut down. Obama will be blamed for that!
Gyges,
That’s why I never discuss anything really seriously with them but I don’t mind those who do.
I have a video I was going to post in honor of real trolling and Jim’s shift should be coming to an end:
Blouise,
The thing about trolling is, if they get responses, it’s a positive reinforcement of their behavior. Like if I use a number 2 Silver Blue fox for trout, and I keep getting trout biting, I’m going to keep using my silver Blue Fox.
Don’t go for the bait. He gets off on it.
bottom-feeder … no, that’s 4 syllables and 2 words … give me a minute more

“Karl Rove warns government shutdown could help Obama
By Shane D’Aprile – 04/08/11 10:43 AM ET
As a possible government shutdown looms, one of the GOP’s top political strategists reminded Republicans Thursday of the positive impact the shutdowns of the mid-’90s had on the political fortunes of then-President Clinton.
In a polling memo posted on his website, Republican strategist Karl Rove wrote, “The shutdowns helped inprove Clinton’s political standing, boosting both his approval rating and perceptions of him as a strong leader.”
Rove referenced a Gallup poll that showed Clinton’s approval rating in the mid-40s before the first shutdown, but jumping to 54 percent by the time government reopened in November of 1995.
“Clinton’s approval rating never again fell below 50 percent for the remainder of his presidency,” wrote Rove, who said that while the shutdowns didn’t jeopardize the GOP’s hold on Congress, they did help position Clinton for reelection in 1996, when he won easily over Republican Bob Dole.
“President Obama’s ratings as a strong leader have slipped this year — Gallup polling last week found he had dropped eight points,” Rove concluded. “Republicans should be careful not to let him recover as he gears up for his 2012 reelection campaign.”
So let me see here, we’ve got a conversation going on that’s not flattering to a particular Party. Then, we’ve got this guy who comes in, makes a couple of incredibly obviously wrong and inflammatory statements, and all of the sudden the conversation’s disrupted and all the attention’s on the guy making the statements, rather than the Party that was the original topic.
If only there was a term for the sort of behavior that guy was exhibiting.
Something snappy, maybe two syllables and fishing related…
Jim,
Maury called me a moron too … do you know Maury? He said all the same things you’re saying but your spelling is better.
Jim,
your revisionist history is obvious. The House didn’t cave in Newt’s shutdown, the party kicked Newt out to get rid of the guy who pushed the shutdown idea. What about Rove’s warning and the poll numbers he based it on??

Franklin died in 1790 and Washington’s warning wasn’t given to till later. You are a moron!
==================================================
Jim … Washington warned Franklin about his affairs with foreigners long before he became president … you missed the joke, darlin’ … it was a word play … foreign women loved Franklin .. oh, never mind, you just aren’t very well read …
@Jim: When government gives somebody something for nothing (pell grants, food stamps, extended unemployment, house payments, cell phones, etc.)
You lie again. That isn’t something for nothing; that is something in return for the taxes we pay. I pay unemployment insurance so that if I become unemployed I have some income. If I did become unemployed I probably wouldn’t take it, because it isn’t worth the hassle and I don’t need it, but I understand why it has to be mandatory and do not mind it, because I know that unemployment insurance reduces crime (including violent, fatal crime) in economic downturns.
The same goes for the other elements; an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and I am not a selfish child: Reducing desperation and alleviating the worst pains of poverty are both a moral good and a practical prophylactic against crime and violence; which might easily be, by random chance, inflicted upon me or someone I care about.
The same thing goes for house payments; I’d rather chip in my one cent to fund 2000 house payments and save 2000 houses and prevent 2000 financial family disasters, divorces, bankruptcies and a few suicides, than see all that shit happen. I think if somebody accepts my help in that regard they have to be forced into a responsible financial position; but most such positions have been caused by bad luck or outright fraudulent misrepresentation, and punishing them with dire consequences isn’t going to help them.
No matter how much you whip people it isn’t going to improve their luck or their ability to understand 50 page financial contracts that were designed to deceive them.

That is only true if the House caves. If they don’t then the President will be blamed. Remember Newt caved not Clinto. I am saying if speaker doesn’t cave then Obama will be blamed.

The point we should all agree on–The Constitution.
Madison never expected government to provide entitlements as we do today. That road is costing us. Washington never wanted us to get involved in foreign affairs. That road is costing us. Get back to the basics and we fix our problems.
==========================================
Last night god let me talk to Madison and Madison told me that, without a doubt, he expected government to provide entitlements for everyone. He also told me, and I quote, “Hamilton is still a bum.”
Two weeks ago when god let me talk to Washington, His Excellency told me that not getting involved in foreign affairs was only intended as guidance for Franklin.
Jim,
Quantity of posts don’t make you right. Even Karl Rove has warned Republicans that a shut down will be blamed on them and not the President. He used polling information from after the Newt disaster. http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20110408/ts_yblog_theticket/karl-rove-warns-gop-that-shutdown-could-boost-obama

your polls are independent voters. By the way, if job #’s don’t go up, then Obama will be having a quick exit.
