Ayatollah Not To Walk Your Dog: Iranian Leaders Move To Ban Dogs

That’s it, my planned vacation with my dog Molly to Tehran is off. Iranian legislators have moved to ban dogs from both public places and private apartments. Muslim are taught that dogs are unclean and the Iranian legislators insist that dogs are not just an affront to Islam but ” a blind imitation of vulgar Western culture.”

Despite the Islamic aversion to dogs, some wealthy families have been seen with canines on the streets and parks.

The bill refers to the practice as “walking dangerous, unhealthy or unclean animals such as dogs” and orders that such “animal[s] will be confiscated.”

This seems to be a merger of Islamic and Maoist propaganda against “Western running dogs.” This is why All Dogs Go To Heaven tanked in Iranian movie theaters.

All of my plans are not in disarray. I had developed the first Barka for my female dog to walk the streets of Tehran with me — visiting such sites as the Martyr’s Fountain at Beheshte Zahra that runs with water colored red to look like real blood.

  1. I do not live in Iran. I live in America. And even I thought that movie was stupid. Hated it!

  2. Why am I not surprised by imadinnerjacket and the mullahs in iran. What wack jobs.

  3. My daughter has a hamster and two parakeets. All of them are annoying. I told her the next pet she gets better be big enough to eat.

  4. I had a friend from Jordan

I also had a Great Dane

My 4 year old could boss around the Great Dane — drag him around the house, tie him up to chairs etc.

But my Jordanian friend, who had lived in the states for 2 decades, was terrified of my dog. It wasn’t hatred, it was terror.

  5. holy feline masterplan, batman

ahmadinejad is a really cat and we’ve stumbled on to their plan to get rid of dogs and TAKE OVER THE WORLD.

  6. Are there any opinions about dogs in either testament of the Christian Bible? (Tootie?)

I’d be interested in the cultural differences that led to different opinions about dogs between the two religions.

I can see why the Koran might consider them unclean — they were frequently used as scavengers. If feral dogs were used as scavengers in pre-Islamic cities (with the filth inherent to pre-plumbing cities), I can see them being looked at like we would view huge rats.

  7. For no particular reason:

Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read. -Groucho Marx

  8. Since this is Iran, are we sure they are not using Dogs as a code word for Non-Muslims? Religion and government, such a bad mix.

  9. “I care not for a man’s religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.” – Abraham Lincoln

  13. “[T]he Iranian legislators insist that dogs are not just an affront to Islam but ‘a blind imitation of vulgar Western culture.'”

Let’s not forget that with vocabularies that may contain as many as 200 words, dogs are a real intellectual threat to the Iranian legislators jobs.
