Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) has proclaimed Friday, April 22, 2011, to Sunday, April 24, 2011, as Days of Prayer for Rain in the State of Texas. He didn’t ask for any prayers to end the drought or put out the wildfires, he just asked for prayers for rain in the state of Texas. While looking at the weather radar tonight, it was raining somewhere in Texas, so I guess it worked. It’s a miracle.
Perry scheduled the prayer fest over the weekend so as not to effect worker productivity. The man is a genius. And always perfectly coiffed too. Do you think Perry uses Supercuts?
With drought and wildfires raging, God is obviously punishing Texas. God uses natural disasters, such as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, as punishment. Why does God hate Texas?
Perry also asked for federal disaster aid. From the Obama administration. Awkward, from the guy whose book is entitled: Fed Up! Our Fight to Save America From Washington. How about issuing vouchers so that each individual can purchase their own wildfire relief from private sources?
While the Governor and I live in the same city, we live in alternative realities.

Blouise,
I like that idea. It is all the Teapublicans fault!!

You are just like the guy who complained that a soldier lost his job because the Berlin Wall came down.
Did you not know that Patton had a chaplain write a prayer for the weather to change and it did?
swarthmom
somebody with alot of pull prayed too hard
Looks like it is still working for him as I am under an hazardous weather warning.
Does that mean we can now blame all floods on teabaggers?

Do I have a cause of action against Governor Perry et al. for bringing this plague of storms upon us? Can Texas be held accountable for the imprecatory, drought-killing prayer-induced storm damage to my pine tree?

You don’t have a prayer buddy…
Sure, pray for rain, it can’t hurt. Not gonna help either but it keeps the morans busy.
Of all the problems people have claimed the almighty to have fixed how come there has never been a single amputee given a new limb? Pray for that.
So they started praying Friday morning? Friday night we had rain, hail and tornados here in St. Louis: “In all, there were close to 300 severe weather reports on Friday, April 22, 2011, including a preliminary count of 24 reported tornadoes. Most of the tornadoes were confined in and around the St. Louis metro area (both the MO and IL side of the river) and the eastern half of the state of Oklahoma.”*
But from the maps I’ve seen the storms included part of Texas and I’m betting they started in Texas, were spawned in Texas as it were and just migrated north. Much as many people and critters do, given the choice. I’m certain that the storms were conjured and spurred on their way by all of that prayer energy.

Ah, but to whom do you “hope?” Any invisible power in particular?
I’m guessing prayer is to hope what rifle is to shotgun.
Now, if we only knew where the darn target is, and why it keeps hiding.
Happy Easter.
Governor you have to show some Love,before any one answers the phone for you upstairs;
It was blowing here last night….but only outside….
anon nurse,
Thanks for that excerpt.
Nal,
Whaddanideeot! Thanks for the laugh.
We don’t pray for rain here in Massachusetts. We just keep hoping that spring will eventually arrive and stick around for a while.
And he didn’t just ask… As Nal, states above, it’s an official proclamation. Jesus… who are these people? The man is frightening.

excerpt:
WHEREAS, throughout our history, both as a state and as individuals, Texans have been strengthened, assured and lifted up through prayer; it seems right and fitting that the people of Texas should join together in prayer to humbly seek an end to this devastating drought and these dangerous wildfires;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICK PERRY, Governor of Texas, under the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Texas, do hereby proclaim the three-day period from Friday, April 22, 2011, to Sunday, April 24, 2011, as Days of Prayer for Rain in the State of Texas. I urge Texans of all faiths and traditions to offer prayers on that day for the healing of our land, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of our normal way of life.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto signed my name and have officially caused the Seal of State to be affixed at my Office in the City of Austin, Texas, this the 21st day of April, 2011.
