Anthony Weiner may not be the only politician whose electronic shortcomings could derail his career. The State of Alaska has released 24,000 pages of emails by then-governor Sarah Palin pursuant to a FOIA request. The emails cover all sorts of Palin controversies like Troopergate, Travel Expense-gate, and even the flurry of activity surrounding her eventual selection as John McCain’s running mate. One email details Palin’s frustration with questions from reporters about whether she believes humans and dinosaurs co-existed.
There’s even praise for an unlikely recipient – President Obama. Palin praises a speech on energy policy made by then-presidential candidate Barack Obama, asking her aides to write a statement “saying he’s right on”.
Some of the emails show a contrast from the public persona carefully crafted of a down-to-earth everymom. In one email, Governor Palin moves to link a defeated political opponent, Frank Murkowski, to Bill Allen, who was indicted in a scandalous bribery case.
“FYI — I’ve asked Frank Bailey to help me track down soem [sic] evidence of past administration’s dealing with Bill Allen,” Palin wrote on May 8, 2007, a day after Allen pleaded guilty to bribery, extortion and conspiracy.
About 2300 pages have not yet been released pending legal review and redaction. That’s where the rubber usually meets the road. More to come? You betcha’.

Personally, I love ol’ Cousin Sarah. She’s funny, silly, and in what other country will you find a complete incompetent capturing the hearts and minds of every other incompetent? She’s sort of the Pied Piper of Stupid. It’s kismet.

There was a time a few years ago when historians were bemoaning the loss of valuable documents due to the White House ban and determination to mark everything Top Secret.
I don’t hear them complaining anymore. Probably because they are all overwhelmed with the material made available through Wikileaks, NSA leaks, picture and video snapping soldiers, emails trails, and “ain’t my penis beautiful” legislators.
The world is back on its axis.
We’ve come quite a ways since Rose Mary Woods was able to ‘accidentally’ erase 18 curious minutes of the Nixon tapes. Now we publish to the universe every passing thought, neuro-twitch & sexual picadillo in very real time, and grin through faux-embarrassment at our 18 minutes of fame.
It appears our collective rotten behavior is only outpaced by the technology capable of exposing it. Maybe on a cellular level, we inadvertently create what we need to document our graduated steps of our demise.
We have abundant evidence that natural selection was short-circuited by human social structure – for it is now possible for destructive members of a species (who would normally be filtered out of the gene pool) to overwhelm the “superior” strains. Thus, at some point in our evolution, unspeakable corrective measures will become speakable – even desirable.
Maybe the purpose of all this nifty electronic wizardry we create, is not to entertain us at all.
Perhaps its cosmic purpose is to leave an accurate historic record of why we didn’t quite make it to the 23rd Century.

her lawyers have been going over these for weeks but interestingly enough chose not to redact the addresses and phone numbers of any detractors. They can expect a visit from the screaming monkeys I am sure.

Sarah Palin is ignorant, but certainly not stupid. In the time honored tradition of Corporate America she has established a brand.
Even her diction is used to indicate that she is just “real folks” like the rest of us. Remember, the patrician, Conneticut born GW Bush. Just a Mom, a God-Fearing Christian and a person capable of returning us to an earlier time marked by simple, good old American values. In truth she appears to be a sociopath, with narcissistic features, whose prime motivation is self aggrandisement. She is quite dangerous to the country and we do ourselves no credit by not taking her seriously.
I think you will be surprised. palin is getting more support form this ‘scandal’ then anything she could have paid money for.
