Amsterdam Court Acquits Geert Wilders of Hate Speech

-Submitted by David Drumm (Nal), Guest Blogger

We have previously discussed the case of Geert Wilders, here, who was accused of inciting hatred with his anti-Islamic diatribes. In an unusual move, the prosecution team had asked for an acquittal. Wilders has advocated outlawing the Koran in the Netherlands, like Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. He also referred to Mohammed as “the devil.”

Wilder’s right of free expression has been upheld, the same right of free expression he wants to deny to Muslims.

Mohamed Rabbae of the National Council for Moroccans, said

The acquittal means that the right of minorities to remain free of hate speech has been breached. We are going to claim our rights at the U.N.

Rabbae’s response, to someone trying to deny you the right to free speech, is to deny them the right to free speech. I feel the irony is lost to both sides.

  1. Getting over the obvious point that Pete has proved his own theory beyond any question. A man of few words indeed; although they mean nothing. One feels the point is about equality. When Islam allows Christians or Jews to freely build their temples in their countries, as they demand to build theirs’ in ours justice we might have a level playing field. If they have a right to attack and restrict Christian and for that matter any other faith then we should also have that right. They have no right to claim residence in other countries and demand changes to the law. “When in Rome……” is a good guide line. Put to a public opinion test Wilder’s opinion is supported, accepted and acclaimed. No one forces Muslims to stay in their Countries and if they want to enjoy the advantages they should play by the rules of the game. Much longer established than a mixed up blob of dogma some of which is against our civilisation. One has no problem with other faiths but a problem with terrorism and socially destructive dogma.Len.W.Langan

  2. Rubbish, Wilders does not want to deny Muslims the right to free expression.

The only example you give for this propaganda is the call to ban the Quran. But that shows how shallow your understanding of what Wilders was really doing.
He was pointing out that by banning books we stiffle discourse. We need the state to tell us what to read.

  3. Thats the great thing about anti-speech laws & clowns like this putz. The laws can be used against whomever some government functionary decides to use them against. Meanwhile Wilder will pretend he has no bad intent it is only those evil others that hate.

As for not listening to him the problem is that others will & some of those others may well be spurred to violence. While the law is not a good remedy in this case a public shaming and a general rejection of his blather is necessary.
