Gingrich and Bachmann Call For Campaign Against Same-Sex Marriage

It appears that same-sex marriage is being groomed for a major issue in this election. With Jay Carney insisting that President Obama remains clear that his views are unclear, Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann stepped forward this weekend to put the issue front and center in their campaigns. Gingrich this weekend announced that he will lead the fight against same-sex marriage to stop the nation from “drifting toward a terrible muddle.” He said that he would be looking for ways to “defend that view as legitimately and effectively as possible.”

Critics are likely to charge that Gingrich certainly has more experience in the area with three prior marriages — making the campaign sound more like a pitch that marriage should be restricted to a man and a woman and a woman and a woman.

The decision of New York to become the sixth state to recognize same-sex marriage guarantees that it will be a hot issue in the campaign. Bachmann is calling for a constitutional amendment.

For the purposes of full disclosure, I have long argued that the states should uniformly adopt a civil union standard and leave “marriages

  1. “Still think if Rick Perry runs he will beat her. He is a former democrat that switched when Texas became republican. Now he has found religion, too…”

    Swarthmore mom:

are you saying Perry is an opportunist?

  2. Swarthmore mom,

As we both know, those who find religion based on convenience/profit are the worst lot.

I am still trying to find a way to vote for Mr. Romney–if he stays in the race–based on his Harvard-educated attorney and business major credentials.
However, I detest that he is a war hawk.

  3. FFLEO Bachmann never ran for office as a democrat. She changed parties in college. I know someone that sat next to her in the Judciary Committe in the Minnesota Senate. I have heard about her for a long time. Still think if Rick Perry runs he will beat her. He is a former democrat that switched when Texas became republican. Now he has found religion, too…

  4. Anon Nurse,

If anyone wants to expose Ms. Bachmann for what she is without using the term bat guano crazy (I worked with bats during my career so I do not want to disparage that great and exceptionally beneficial species) just have them view the last video–God called me–and ask some direct questions. The self-proclaimed “Fool for Jesus Christ” channels God through her husband. She would be submissive to Mr. Bachmann while he was First Queen in the White House and channel decisions from God through him—she has done that her entire life with her husband as noted in the video.

As a staunch Republican, I think Ms. Bachmann is unfit for high public office and I am mortified that she calls herself a Republican (she once was a loyal Democrat).

  5. FF LEO,

    Thanks for the vids…, I think… (It’s way too early for heartburn…)

  6. “speaking of Jackass, I am waiting for those Famous Last Words trolls and bumpkins like to use: “Watch this….”

    OS,

Perhaps I was being uncharitable to “Jackass” cast members by implying that our troll is up to their level of class.

  7. “Why cant people just leave other people alone and accept them on face value if they are decent. good people?”

    Roco,

I imagine much is in the mores of different societies. Some represents people’s fears of their own repressed sexuality. A large part is a religious based need to frighten followers into obeying. That latter is used by political demagogues to further their careers. As it happens more Americans are more comfortable with homosexuality now, than they previously have been. When there is a search for power of any kind, the unscrupulous will never hesitate to use “fear of the other” techniques.

  8. oh no, rut ro Astro. The call? More like a hypoglycemic hallucination.

Thank you for posting this. This woman is going to be a threat to liberty and irrational to boot.

  9. Hey, y’all Turley blawg gals y’all best be submissive (to all superior males) ‘cause the Lard told Prezdint Bachmann “ Be submissive, wives you are to be submissive to your husbands…”

This autobiographical video explains why Ms. Bachmann became a tax lawyer—and, it weren’t the devil made her done it.

  10. Could Ms. Bachmann be the next Hot (for God) President?!

(As an atheist, I might have to pray that her presidential prayers are unanswered…gawd, please do not bless the USA with anymore Bushs, Bachmanns, Becks, Palins, Robertsons, et als…)

“Thanks again one and all for taking the low road yesterday.”

I am deeply hurt, I never once took the low road with you.

  12. @OS

TrollBot cannot tell the difference between defending someone and being the target of ridicule. Interesting.

Of course I am aware of your tactics, OS.

When you do it, it is the former.

When someone does it to you, it’s the latter. At least according to you.

Then toss in a little name-calling.

And pretend it’s a cogent argument.

If you can live with yourself, by all means go for it.

  13. @Mike Simpleton

What makes you think I am acting anonymously?

And even if I were, about 90% of the commenters on this board aren’t using their name and you seem to have no problem interacting with them.

But I prefer to debate those issues with serious adults.

Apparently, you failed to go back to the Paul Revere thread and see who actually started the name calling. Though it’s certainly clear that you started the ad hominems.

Your anonymity is no longer entitled to my respect and I’m moving on.

With only your hypocrisy to keep you warm.

It’s much more fun now that I get to make fun of you idiots again.

Thanks again one and all for taking the low road yesterday.
