Thanks for the Bed

I had to laugh when I saw this picture on Reddit. My dog Molly did the same thing when we bought her a nice bed.

Molly, a goldendoddle, loves to sleep on anything soft. However, Leslie draws the line on beds and sofas. On occasion, Molly tests us by jumping on a bed and watching intently if we object. This always happens when the kids have a sleepover. She seems to take the position that this guy is not even a family member, but I have to sleep on the floor?

Do you let your dog sleep in your bed?

I had an adopted black Cocker Spaniel once. She attacked all the other dogs, no matter how big they were. I gave her to my then brother-in-law because he was a potato farmer in Colorado. I thought the Cocker Spaniel would be better off there. She got ran over by a car. I said, why the hell didn’t you put up a fence. No answer. Am I being bad?

I’m not even sure but then the whole world is askew so i guess my complaints are rather trivial in comparison….

danger is over rated ….I prefer a happy hearth to a nasty temperment.

tails are also over rated ….

  4. lottakatz ((*_*)) for both, love that bath story.
Blouise, sure wish Id grown up in your house!
Our dogs didnt go for the stray pieces of popcorn, or any other food, they went for the whole enchilada.
(My parents would send me from the kitchen table when I refused to eat, esp fish sticks. They would send me to the dining room to sit by myself, and finish those horrific foods. Happily the dogs were always there waiting by the table for me. Even though we were jewish I think their 6th sense told them ‘it’s friday, Carol will be out here soon with the fish sticks. Yum.’ ((*_*))

  5. ID707,

A Cocker Spaniel can beat up an Irish Wolfhound. Unless you make her stop.

  6. Of course. The phrase three dog night comes to mind. I don’t have a dog now but when I was growing up I had a black lab who slept at the foot of my bed. He did that from the time I was in the first grade until I was a H.S. sophomore and we both could no longer fit on the bed. I’m sure some of us have let people in our beds whose characters were significantly less than the character of our dogs.

  7. I once had a super-large irish wolfound. We live in the moors south of Kirumn, where the sun never shines in thé winter. We’ve leave the stuga each day, hunting for moose, or reindeer. She has a magnificent hunter. Dragging them down with her sheer weight.
Slept always in my bed. I slept on the floor, there
wasn’t room for two in the bed. She snored a lot.

I never used to lie, but wanting to join the group, I felt it would be OK.
    BTW, her mane was Rex.

  9. Blouise, what a wonderful story! My first real dog (and the only pet not a stray or hand-me-down, which are often the best) was a little black Cocker Spaniel. She loved water and baths. My dad had to fix the bathroom door so it could be locked from the inside because she would worry the knob to open the door and jump in the tub with whoever was bathing. 🙂 She was a good ol’ dog. Your posting brought back some nice memories, thank you.

    ********

LOL, people that visit me or I have to take things from my house to, are all told that the cat hair (they get on them) is free 🙂

  11. My son-in-law is certain that if forced to choose between him and her dog, my daughter would choose her dog. He’s a lovely man but her devotion to her dog knows no end. 🙂

  12. Blouise, Just got back from a dog walk. I have multiple beds and kennels with beds in them. When we walk the feral cats that I captured and had neutered follow us. We usually meet a new dog or cat along the way.. We met a blind fifteen year old dog from Vietnam the other night. I have never lived without multiple pets. My old dog died last fall but daughter had a new dog and could not keep it so guess who got it? The dog has been a wonderful gift.

  13. leejcaroll,

Tex, my husband, would read stories to the kids and I’d sing lullabies so it became a gathering place (still is) … the dogs took care of cookie crumbs and stray pieces of popcorn. The kitties just purred. We did have a pet rabbit who sat between the dog’s paws and fought for the the occasional piece of popcorn.

Friday nights was “scary movie” night. Tex was a Ghoulardi fan … that show became The Hoolihan and Big Chuck Show and then Big Chuck and Lil’ John. Many a night we carried sleeping children to their beds.
