Edgar Diaz, 21, may have picked the wrong Good Samaritan to beat up after attacking a gay couple. Diaz attacked a man who came to the assistance of a gay couple being allegedly assaulted by Diaz and his friends. Diaz is accused of beating and stabbing the man who turned out to be a brave young prosecutor on his way to fish in Lake Michigan. Diaz not surprisingly is a reputed gang member and he is being held on $750,000 bond
The incident literally struck home with me because it occurred in the same park that I take my kids when visiting my home town. Chicago has beautiful parks running along the beaches of Lake Michigan. However, recently there has been an uptick in gang activity along the lake.
After the 32-year-old prosecutor yelled for the men to stop, he was stabbed multiple times and cut in his face, right side and arms. What is disappointing is the lack of other arrests since accounts indicate that Diaz was part of a group.
The Cook County prosecutor tried to stop Diaz from assaulting the gay couple which had been walking hand in hand in the park. Diaz is now charged with attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery.
I would not expect a plea from the Cook County prosecutors.

Franklee thank you too. I just spoke with them on phone, I then mail them too.
Could not even think of doing it better. Thanks, Frankly.
Thank you, Frankly.
Dung no mean offend frankly. I have friend by name of Benjamin Franklin Lee, we name him Franklee. Is this you? No, I not in grade school. I am in 19 school. My teacher name is Kim Gray. You
Know her?
Unfortunately the fabric of the State’s Attorney’s Office is not uniformly woven.

Dung – did Mrs. Daglish’s 2nd hour 8th grade English class let out early today so you have a lot of free time on your hands to display racist stereotypes for the grown ups?
It wasn’t funny the first time and it is not getting better with repeat performances. Since you have no respect for others try showing some for yourself.
Scene 2055. The justice team enters the oourt from the secure area. All are hooded. The clerk, after the judge commands to all to sit, reads: The judge today is Judge 2339. That and the case number is all the official information that is available to non judicial personnel.
The prosecutor is Prosecutor 5442, also only identifiable via case number to appropriate personnel. Note that numbers are not person related but assigned at random for each case. Your honor……”
Malisha,
That’s the only efficiency that counts. The rest is; “Make noise and bright lights.” or “No work today, let’s all go out to play.”
Darren,
Unfortunately, I believe you are right—especially young ones. They come out with a PhD.
Sad that the prosecutor and the couple had to get injured to get this banger off the streets. Hopefully this guy will spend over 40 years in prison, so that he is elderly if he gets out. Less likely at this stage to be harmful to society.
Giving bangers short prison sentences such as five years, makes them worse when they come out and are more menacing to society.
Dung Ho say man life not worth much.
He could make the Dumb Criminals show …
Bloomberg’s soft-drink crusade is an example of the kinds of things in government that make me think we’re a failed species. The very fact that all those officials sat there and did that, and didn’t say, for instance: “MAYOR, we are accountable to our citizens to do some WORK here…” —
I mean, when you spend your whole life working, and having to explain that you really did put in eight hours of quantifiable effort to get your money, and then you look at what these crooks in government do with their time, it’s so demoralizing. And the structures that keep people from making meaningful change in this giant fraud are murderous in their efficiency. The ultimate remedy does not lie in law.
JH – What are you talking about??? Bloomberg just got done saving us from the evil large sodas !!! He’s my hero !!!
(sarcasm)
Rham is focusing on the “real” threat to the residents of Chicago—Teachers’ Unions”!
When you look across the country at some of the most high profile mayors you will see that their interests and focus tends to be on crush teachers unions, getting developers and corporations a greater share of city taxes while shrinking school budgets and allowing streets and other infrastructure decline. Mayor Bloomberg of New York is a good example of this attitude.
Malisha, It’s prudent to withhold the hero’s name. These gang members retaliate.
The city is only getting worse. Even when I lived there back in 2004 and 2005, there were murders in Licoln Park and hell, one guy was shot to death by gang members in Grant Park during the July 4th festivities. That’s just ballsy when there are that many cops around… And another guy was found dead with stab wounds in the park at some other point. And what is around there? Nothing but colleges and shopping. Chicago is falling apart.
See, Chicago doesn’t have any Neighborhood Watch committee to keep its residents safe.
Something I find puzzling: Why are they withholding the hero’s name? It would seem to me that his intervention AND his bravery are commendable but they refer to him as the “unidentified prosecutor” or similar phrases.
Is it to keep him safe to testify against the defendant at trial?
I was in Chicago a couple months ago. There was a shootout between gang members @ the corner of Michigan Ave.and Chicago..we’re talking Mag Mile. The Teeny Tiny Mayor, in full Orwellian said that although it was a gun battle between two gang members he wasn’t prepared to say it was gang related. he’s losing control of that great city. I guess the gang members and thugs haven’t heard he’s tough! They eat guys like him for breakfast.
One good act….. That is good…..
