Destitute Maid In Dubai Is Thrown Out Of Home Without Pay, Tries To Commit Suicide, Arrested And Fined By Government

An Ethiopian woman working as a maid in Dubai was left homeless and penniless after her employee threw her out of the house without paying her for three months work. Destitute and depressed, the woman, 24, known only as AM, stood in the middle of a road to be hit by a car. The government promptly acted in the tragic act. The woman was gently moved to the side the road and arrested. She will now face a fine of Dh1000.

When confronted by an officer, AM admitted that she wanted to end her life after being told that she would not receive a cent for three months work. She had asked for her pay to be sent to her family in Ethiopia but the sponsor simply said that he did not have the money and kicked her out. She did not have anywhere to go and did not even know the address of the house or how to contact the Dubai agency that brought her to the country.

We have seen previous stories where these women live in Middle Eastern countries and never leave the home.

  1. Spot on with this write-up, I seriously think this amazing site needs a great deal
more attention. I’ll probably be returning to see more, thanks for the advice!

  2. A friend to my money is my friend, an enemy to my money is my enemy.
An enemy to the enemy of my money is a friend to my money, er uhh unless the enemy of my enemies money is also an enemy of my money…. er then their my enemy too. I think, uhh. Fool me twice and I won’t be fooled again

What happens if you’re able to defend yourself. Pay me what you owe or I will kill you.

  4. After all that she experienced at that household, a redemption of the country might be that she received some sort of social service from the government to aid her in her plight. Instead, arrested and fined.

If I knew this to be an isolated event, it would be one thing, but this is frequent. I don’t see anything redeeming in my mind of these countries in this respect.

Of course the UN will not address it, that is the slavery issue, because we just cannot speak out against the Arab culture even if it is so oppressive toward women. The US won’t do anything about it because of petroleum and strategic interests and that we wouldn’t want to offend the Arab culture.

So it would be better if nobody went to these countries to seek a better life, because you are in effect selling your soul to them since they regard you as property as a domestic worker. But so many of these women are destitute or want better lives for their families.

Perhaps it might be worthwhile to instead of sending billions to the countries that abuse these women to divert a portion toward some form of economic aid to Ethiopia to help create jobs for them. I’m not much in favor of foreign aid without the budget situation here but if we must spend it why not give it to where it is more honorably used?

  5. MikeS, There is a town next to Peoria called Pekin. There’s a Fed coorectional facility there. Now, you know my stand on pc. However, up until maybe the mid to late 80’s the high school mascot for Pekin high school was “The Chinks”. Even I can abide that one had to go.

  6. Is it just me or is there an exquisite irony to be seen here between the destitute woman trying to kill herself in traffic, and the restaurant owner prosecuted for serving roadkill?

I foresee huge opportunities in the Dubai exotic food restaurant industry. If we can treat Middle Eastern women like animals, why can’t we eat them?

  7. I notice that many TV shows are offering all-expense paid trips to Dubai as prizes. Personally, I rather vacation in Peoria.

  8. hahahahaa!
here in the USA they would have levied an even bigger and faker bill, attached her wages and kicked her out to get trafficked by the local mob.

    who are you kidding?

  10. If you live in Ethiopia, do not let them put you in a crate and sell you off to some schmuck in Dubai.

why do you even ask that question?

Their philosophy of life is death. Nuff said.

  12. Ah, the Arab culture of hospitality on display once again. This kind of cruelty could happen anywhere but why does it seem to happen so frequently in the land of misogyny that is the Mid East.
