I had the pleasure of speaking on Rage and the Republic this weekend in Colorado Springs. As many of you know, Colorado is one of my favorite places for hiking and I was able to take a day to hike around the gorgeous Seven Falls area. I wanted to share some photos from a perfect Fall day. The hike reached around 7,000 feet and it offered some spectacular views of the area.
You can gain access to the Seven Falls trails by way of a series of steps with arguably the most unnecessary sign in the state:
The 224 steps are indeed steep and daunting, but it is well worth what is awaiting you.
The waterfalls are truly enchanting. They lead to streams teeming with trout.
As you climb up 7,000 feet, the view becomes more and more breathtaking (both literally and aesthetically). You have to drink a lot of water due to the altitude, but you quickly adjust.
Colorado Springs remains a delight with various spots that we have previously explored from the Gorge to the Garden of the Gods to Pike’s Peak.
There is nothing quite as rejuvenating as hiking in Colorado, particularly as the Fall colors are bursting forth among the Ponderosas and the Aspen. The evenings give a hint of the coming winter, but there remains a glorious Fall to behold in the foothills of Colorado Springs. The air is clean and crisp as you move higher and higher into the mountains.
I am returning today to Washington, D.C. and I am so thankful that I had a chance again to come to this very special place.

Despite its infected politics Colorado is beautiful.
The Eidelweiss restaurant in Colorado Springs was a wonderful meal.
The big cat rescue NE of Denver was interesting. Animals had more space than the usual sorts of places. In one 5 acre or so tiger enclosures we were unable to locat #3 – probably in the rushes near the pond.
Thank You for loving my city.
Gorgeous for sure! Spectacular captures Professor Turley!!!
Lived there for a decade in the 2010’s and it is fabulous country. That is also why it attracted all the overflow gentrifiers from Cali and Texas after they polluted Boulder and Denver. El Paso county is great to visit but no longer a stalwart of conservative values – just another Blue Dot on the state map now.
Thank you for sharing, Professor. Whatever else is true about Colorado at present, it’s a beautiful state.
I enjoy it when you share things like this, you are a grounded man and although much of what you write about is way over my head I still read most of them and these type of posts truly gives me joy
