Family Values Candidate Eric Bodenweiser Arrested In Delaware For Allegedly Repeatedly Raping Young Boy

This is Eric Bodenweiser, Republican candidate for the Delaware State Senate and anti-gay member of the Delaware Family Policy Council. Bodenweiser, 53, was viewed as unbeatable in the race against his Democratic challenger right up to the time the family values candidate was arrested for allegedly having unlawful sex acts with a 13-year-old boy.

Bodenweiser is facing 113 felony sex charges, including 39 counts of unlawful sexual intercourse — first-degree and 74 counts of unlawful sexual contact — second-degree. The boy who allegedly was sexually abused by Bodenweiser between Oct. 1, 1987 and Aug. 31, 1990 when he was between the ages of 10 and 13. The victim is now in his 30s.

Bodenweiser was endorsed in his State Senate race by Christine O’Donnell, the 2010 Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Delaware. O’Donnell, who was ridiculed for once saying that she dabbled in witchcraft, now has found someone more controversial than herself. O’Donnell came to the defense of Bodenweiser:

CHRISTINE O’DONNELL: That’s why these sort of, charges are so, are so, potent as political weapons because they put a seed of doubt in someone’s mind. If you do it as an October surprise there’s not enough time between when they throw the bomb on election day for the truth to really emerge and, um, it’s just, it’s tacky and it’s what happened to our political system.

Bodenweiser had won an upset against the incumbent Republican with the help of the Tea Party. O’Donnell cites his victory as an encouragement for her to run again with the resurgence of conservative values and agreed to campaign for him. In what could be a much repeated statement by Bodenweiser at the time, the candidate stated “I asked Christine to speak at my fundraiser because I consider her a friend and we hold the same principles and values. She has been the top vote getter in Sussex County over the past four years. Her record in Sussex County proves it. Hopefully, some of her ability to win votes will rub off on me.”

Bodenweiser pledged that, when he took office, he would “weed out the liberals” and expose them by introducing ultraconservative legislation.

Bodenweiser helped run his family’s business Bodie’s Dairy Markets, a chain of six local convenience stores and Laundromats. The chain was sold in 2001. His campaign website touted how he was an active middle school mentor. According to news reports, Bodenweiser was a mentor for children at Georgetown Middle School and North Georgetown Elementary School.

If convicted, such access to children could be cited to increase sentencing for Bodenweister. Given the repeated alleged abuse over a long period of time, he would be looking at a considerable sentence — enough to put him behind bars for the rest of his life on the upper end of the scale — though O’Donnell might view that as a bit “tacky.”

  1. OS,

Silver’s is up a few points … once again good as steady movement upward is what one wants to see.

  2. Nate Silver is now forecasting Obama 300.4 electoral votes and Romney 237.6. Nate is giving Obama 79.0% to Romney 21.0% as of today. I would buy a lottery ticket with those odds. Momentum for electoral votes is shifting blue the past several days. The love fest with Chris Christie probably helped the President.

  3. SwM and Gene,

I heard from eniobob and he’s fine though many in his neighborhood are not. He’s out there helping others which is no surprise considering it’s eniobob. 🙂

Still haven’t heard from Bob Esq and am a little bit worried.

  4. He raped a boy for three years 20-some years ago and he is known for mentoring middle school and elementary school kids. There are more victims out there.

  5. Magginkat:

no, only the evangelical, focus on the family ones. Or so it would seem.

  6. SwM,

I read an analysis that the Frankenstorm worked to his advantage in that it brought back memories of the manner in which the Republicans handled Katrina. That might makeup for the problems the storm created for early voting.

BTW, over half our town is still without power and not expected to get it all back till Sunday.

  7. SwM,

That’s up nicely … he was stuck at 63% for quite a while. The pollsters also follow Intrade when trying to figure their averages. Steady movement upwards is what we want to see.

  8. Blouise, 68.1 today…… I read something the other day that said that when there are no new polls to look at and you are in withdrawals go to Intrade.

  9. SwM,

Obama’s holding at 62% on Intrade (the online betting service). Sometimes more useful than a poll as it reflects the opinions of people who are willing to put money on the line. 😉

  10. I’m beginning to think every one of these “family values” politicians should have to register as sex offenders just to be on the safe side.

  11. Before they were the Tea Party they were the Christian Right and before that the Moral Majority and before that the “T” Party (anti tax people from the 60’s). All claim to be grass roots leading a revolution within the Republican Party but ask ol’ Sarah Palin who learned the hard way, the Republican Party prefers to direct its revolutions from the top down … perverts and all.

  12. I am not sure if this belongs here, or under the heading, “Another judge runs wild.” Below is the text accompanying a petition I got this morning urging a reconsideration of sentencing for former police officer Robb Gary Evans for groping a female at a bar.” Just another footnote in the ongoing saga of the Republican war on women. By a female judge appointed by a female governor, no less!

Last summer, a drunk Arizona police officer named Robb Gary Evans drove to a bar, flashed his badge so he didn’t have to pay the cover charge, then walked up behind a woman, put his hand up her skirt, and pressed his fingers into her genitals.

A jury convicted him of felony sexual abuse, and he was fired from the force.

This summer, Arizona trial Judge Jacqueline Hatch decided his felony sentence didn’t warrant him any jail time or qualified him for being registered as a sex offender – and told the victim that it was her fault she had been assaulted!

“If you wouldn’t have been there that night, none of this would have happened to you,” Hatch, who was appointed by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, told the woman, urging her to take something “positive” out of the “lesson” she experienced. “When you blame others, you give up your power to change.”

Judge Hatch’s sentencing of Evans is bad enough – but her treatment of a sexual assault survivor is abhorrent. Will you join us in calling on Brewer to re-evaluate Hatch’s election and to publicly condemn her atrocious comments?

  13. Bodenweiser was an active middle school and elementary school mentor? I wonder if he sexually abused more children. I wonder if parents of the children he mentored were aware that Bodenweiser was working with them and had given their permission for him to be their mentor.

  14. Family values, the haven for more than one kind of pervert. Many members of this so called “conservative” club rationalize their unbelievably vile behavior by arguing they operate under a different set of rules because they are the chosen ones who will save the country from the ultimate enemy –empathetic liberals. As a result, if they do it, it is,by definition, right.
Hypocrites, puffed up sociopaths who are actually running our Congress and seek the Presidency.

  15. Harry Reid can thank the tea party wing of the republican party for his job security.

  16. “Hopefully, some of her ability to win votes will rub off on me.”

Wow. O’Donnell is dumber than I already thought she was. I’m betting she doesn’t know that Locard’s Exchange Principle works both ways. As to Bodenweiser, it’s not often one sees a living example so close to that of the Edwin Edwards Principle: “The only way I can lose this election is if I’m caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.” What kind of family values are those anyway? The Manson family?
