Our civil liberties and our economy may be in the tank, but all is right with the world today as the Stanley Cup returns to its natural resting place: Chicago.
The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup game against Boston in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final 3-2. That was due in no small part to Corey Crawford with 23 saves for Chicago
The Boston Bruins needed to win the game to survive into Game 7 and played with their signature aggressive style.
While my first love remains football, I still love to see the city of my birth reign supreme. The Blackhawks are, with the Bruins, one of the Original Six NHL teams. They have now won the Stanley Cup five times. ( Montreal Canadiens have won the Cup an unbelievable record of 24 times).
These were fun games to watch, particularly for those from the Windy City.
Well done Blackhawks!
Now on to football . . .
RWL, But he loves the Cards. I think God is mostly a baseball fan. Look what he did for the Mets in ’69. He got to help the team he loved, and break the hearts of the Cubs and their fans…win/win.
Gents, there is a new reality show coming out on TBS for the football season. It follows Cheesehead Packer fans. Now, I have evolved into a Packer fans after living here for 30 years. It is a great stadium and a well run organization[I own one share..Xmas gift]. That said, I am EMBARASSED by Packer fans. Although I am a sports fan I own NO team apparel, except for a Phillies hat a friend gave me years back. Apparently it now has gang implications in certain regions! Please don’t lump me in w/ these bozo’s you’ll be seeing starting in September.
Nick & AY
LOL….He hates the St. Louis Blues too! Blues entered the NHL in 1968, and haven’t won a Cup!
AY, You’re up on your NHL history. I remember Les Habitants beating the Rangers in ’79. I have a lot of friends who are Ranger fans.
God doesn’t hate Cleveland. He actually has a place in his heart for them because of Art Modell. They’re kind of like Philly was back in the 70’s. But, the Broad St. Bullies brought Philly out of their funk, and I think the Indians will do the same soon for “The Cleve.”.
They are Chubs nick…. Not cubs….
And in reference toThe NHL not since 79 if I recall….
RWL, God hates the Cubs.
Two of the original six franchises providing a great series in honor of their heritage. I have Bruins fans in my family so I have empathy for Bruin fans. I became a Blackhawks fan when we lived in Chicago and loved going to old Chicago Stadium to watch the Hawks. Of all the venues, in all sports, that I’ve had the honor to watch a game, Chicago Stadium was the most electrifying. And the total venues is @ least 50. Visiting players said they got goose bumps playing in that venue. And, there were times when you literally could scream in a teammates ear and they couldn’t hear you. Although a Blackhawks fan, I gave up being “my team is the best” fandom a good 20-30 years ago. Two great teams, the Hawks were better.
Sorry Elaine, but Chicago needs a winner the way the Sox and Cubs are playing!
What a turn around from worst organization in professional sports to dynasty!
After defeating Boston to win the Cup for the second time since beating Philadelphia, locating an NHL franchise in Concord is the surest way to guarantee a third championship.
There is a God if the Cubs win another World Series, not the Blackhawks winning another Cup in less than 10 years!
Unless there is a God and he really does hate Cleveland.
Who can blame him?
And on other fronts…..there was one heck of a storm in Chicago….last night…
The hawks won and trees came down….
Elaine,
Always a pleasure to see you….
Congrats Hawks.
rafflaw,
It wasn’t an amazing finish for a Bruins fan like me!
It was an amazing finish to a great series! Hail to the Hawks!
I expected this. Mr Cusack is quite pleased as well I assume
One team executed a better understanding of physics in the dynamic environments called “games.” That’s about it.
Oh please. The Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup is not proof there is a God. That would have been proven if the Heat hadn’t won the NBA finals. Again. But it wasn’t. Or, really, if any Cleveland team won anything.
Unless there is a God and he really does hate Cleveland. Which I’m beginning to believe is true,
“Natural resting place” Thanks for the early morning chuckle.
