Irish Politician Calls Obama A War Criminal And Hypocrite In Parliament

220px-Clare_DalyPresident_Barack_ObamaMany civil libertarians around the world have rallied to support Clare Daly, Irish Parliament member of the United Left Alliance representing Dublin, after she challenged the prime minister and the reception given to President Barack Obama who she called a war criminal. The video of the speech is below. Daly called Obama the “hypocrite of the century” for lecturing children on peace while expanding drone attacks and funding civil wars around the world. Many in the United States particularly took note of her attack on the type of cult of personality surrounding Obama that seems detached from his horrendous record on civil liberties, privacy, and international law.

Daly noted that it is not just the government but the media fueling this cult of personality — spending endless time on what the Obamas were ordering for lunch rather than discussing his authoritarian policies. She is the former Socialist Party Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North constituency but resigned from the Socialist Party and joined the United Left Alliance TD.

Daly is being attacked as immature and radical in her comments.

What do you think?

  1. If the shoe fits… We’ve been trying to warn you people, but you voted him in anyway. And like some unwelcome pestilence, you can’t get rid of him. He managed to thwart the re-election process and get an illegitimate re-election by fraudulent votes. So now we need to wait him out until FINALLY this worthless miserable failure of a president is out of office. He is, by far, the absolute worst president we have ever had in history. Hands down.

    1. Jesus did not destroy his neighber with his mouth. Destroy your neighber with your mouth don’t have charity that covers for a multitude of sons. See what I am saying?

    sonof, (s/b SOTB) 🙂

    C O P is L E T so of course it doesn’t apply to us.

What’s your opinion of the “hidden hand leadership” theory if applied to Obama. I believe there is some legit reasons for suspecting that brand of leadership. The problem is that the hidden hand is seldom properly revealed until several years have passed .. ie Eisenhower. I’m jumping off your Machiavellian reference into “hidden hand” territory.

Oh hell yeah! I will agree with Bruce and Gene that OBH does have a “hidden hand”. Of course I am a Judeo-Christian and I believe the scriptures that detailed a certain fallen-angel’s lofty offer of “governments” (aka kingdoms) to Jesus and he refused emphatically. Also in the Book of Daniel he details that there are metaphysical powers (fallen-angels) that are “prices” of all countries on Earth (i.e. Persia and Greece at the time?)

But let me get off that Bible stuff and come down more to Earth. Dr. John Coleman (ex-MI6 intelligence officer of the Angola Desk) claims that there are 300 rich men that are the real “hidden hands” today. He calls them the Committee of 300. He said that he stumbled on this intel during data-mining on some background reports involving his station. The dots connected and now he’s being vilified like my friend Wayne Madsen.

Yes I know Obama’s mom was a CIA agent. So what? The use journalists, preachers, children, etc. So do the Russians and the Chinese. His father was working with her too. Yes Mr. Obama may have been involved with helping mom at times. But guess what? The CIA works for him now!

Was he groomed for POTUS? I really don’t know. But I have no problem with it just as long as it had nothing to do with the CIA-version Dulles and Bush were part of (Yalies?). As the late Daniel Inouye (D-HW) said during Iran-Contra hearings there are TWO CIAs. The one you know and the one you don’t (paraphrasing before he was cut off by Ollie North’s lawyer).

Is Soros, Buffet, Ortega, Kamprad, Slim part of the CO300? Probably. Definitely George Soros is. Is Gates? I don’t think so as the feds give him so much grief. The others don’t publish their wealth or actually don’t know thier entire worth as it’s so huge (like Scrug McDuck?). However, they attend those Bilderberg Hotel meetings and almost all the Beltway movers and shakers do too. Obama never attends but stays close enough for some sort of RF video feed (a few miles). Who do they work for? Well if you belief in the first paragraph (which many atheists don’t) – should answer that question.

I’m only guessing here. That’s the difference between conspiracy theorist and good guesser. 🙂

  3. Obama Expands Militarization of Police
Among items transfered to local law enforcement agencies have been assault rifles and grenade launchers, even Blackhawk helicopters and .50 caliber machine guns; In fiscal year 2011 alone, the Pentagon transferred almost $500 million worth of materials to domestic law enforcement – near double the previous year’s total

  4. Good for her….

I can’t wait to read all the detraction’s posted pro Obama people…..should make an interesting read…. focus on what others are doing….not what I’m doing…. maybe he should be regulated as a magician…… he has lots of rabbits……

  5. More “on the record” (alternate source):

How about his record in other areas of policy? Let’s look at a list compiled by author Albert Bates:
“Obama, in 2008 the outsider, in 2012 must defend a governing record that looks like George W. Bush on steroids:

Suppression of news of serious war-crimes, including assassination of war correspondents, by prosecution of whistle-blowers like Bradley Manning and Julian Assange
Corruption of the Justice Department, NSA, FBI and CIA to cover an ongoing criminal enterprise involving some $5 trillion in long-term graft from no-bid contracts going to the 1% — $50,000 per average US family, being extracted in taxes, inflation, bank defaults, student loans and diminished public services
Conspiring with local police and mayors to quash and evict the Occupy movement
Pursuing murderous US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in Orwellian opposition to international law
Expanding US wars and armed attacks into more and more countries, despite treaties after both world wars that make use of military unlawful unless a country’s government attacks first (Kellogg-Briand and UN Charter)
Expanding terrorist-by-definition drone wars on Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen (now spending more on drone operations than the entire budget of the CIA)
Calling for more illegal wars on Syria and Iran while darkly hinting of an official first strike policy for use of nuclear weapons
Torpedoing the nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament negotiations and ramping up new nuclear weapon design, testing, and deployment
Suppression of news from Fukushima, including ordering EPA to halt air and food sampling and working with other countries towards the same ends
Assassination of Americans upon the non-reviewable dictate of the president
Maintaining the Bush-era torture prisons and black sites
Maintaining illegal rendition as official policy
Control-drown/waterboarding anyone deemed a “terrorist” and extending sensory deprivation to local jails and State prisons despite all US and international case law finding this to be torture
NDAA 2012 and 2006 Military Commissions Act that state the president can dictate any person as a “terrorist suspect,” and then disappear them without challenge or recourse
Signing presidential executive order saying the US government can seize any resource, any person, at any time for “national defense”
Minting his own Alberto Gonzales continuing criminal enterprise rubber stamp — Eric Holder
Siding with Exxon, BP and the Koch brothers to accelerate climate- and ocean-destroying pollution; and
Torpedoing the climate talks in Copenhagen, Cancun and Durban. “

If I remember correctly, Obama ran as a Left-wing Progressive, a populist to change the system. Looking at his record since taking office, you would have to conclude that the Far Right is the New Left. …and the Left of yesteryear is certainly long since dead, suffocated and murdered by the Corporate State over the last several decades. Don’t take this rant as an endorsement for Romney, aka Mr. 1%… The Right has gone so far in that direction that they’ve fallen off a cliff.

    Down the Corporate Rabbit Hole
    Obama in Plunderland
    by NORMAN SOLOMON

The president’s new choices for Commerce secretary and FCC chair underscore how far down the rabbit hole his populist conceits have tumbled. Yet the Obama rhetoric about standing up for working people against “special interests” is as profuse as ever. Would you care for a spot of Kool-Aid at the Mad Hatter’s tea party?

  7. I repeat Darren’s question:

“Could there ever come a point in which President Obama would do something so objectionable to you, that you would agree with someone who is what you refer to a right winger who says that President Obama was a failure of a president?”

If the answer is “no”, then the issue of a cult of personality is moot because you are clearly engaging in such behavior.

    That raises another question though:

If being a hypocrite on due process, prosecuting domestic war criminals, the War Powers Act, the Separation of Powers Doctrine, medical marijuana, Guantanamo Bay and torture (all of which are exemplified above) isn’t enough for one to consider Obama a failure, just exactly what is your threshold of evidence? Does he need to torture a citizen pulled at random off the street on the White House lawn before you’ll see he’s a disaster for the Rule of Law or is there some “lower” threshold where you’ll admit he’s a failure?

Pass it around! This is not Party politics, this is precisely what Clare Daly is attempting to expose…unpopular as it may be…these are the hard facts!

  10. sonof,

Please forgive the shortcuts in typing as I’m outside with grandchild using my laptop.

I read the paper(Edelson) after checking out SAGE. My neighbor is a retired prof from Oberlin and he told me he’s submitted many papers to SAGE for peer review and that I can trust the source.

This is a discipline waaay outside my fields of expertise so I had to read it several times but kept coming back to Study 3.

All in all I found it most persuasive.

  11. “Does he have faults – hell yeah! But the ‘ends justify the means’ – that’s why I said Mr. Obama and I are a tad Machiavellian.”

We must destroy the Constitution to save it! Why, why, why . . . that’s utter genius! Or a huge load of horseshit. Being an unprincipled manipulator is really something to take pride in. If someone takes away from “The Prince” that Machiavelli was a role model, then they took away the wrong lesson. There is a difference between leadership and psychopathy, between the game of politics and the abandonment of principle in the pursuit for absolute power.

  12. “Yes Mr. Obama has changed from his original promises.”

There is a difference between “change” and “lie”. A change is bringing strawberries when you said you were going to bring blueberries. A lie is stabbing you with a fork when you said you were going to bring blueberries.

But hypocrisy? The practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case? He’s got plenty.

“The detention of American citizens, without access to counsel, fair procedure, or pursuant to judicial authorization, as enemy combatants is unconstitutional.” — Barack Obama; December 2007

“After Vietnam, Congress swore it would never again be duped into war, and even wrote a new law — the War Powers Act — to ensure it would not repeat its mistakes. But no law can force a Congress to stand up to the president. No law can make senators read the intelligence that showed the president was overstating the case for war. No law can give Congress a backbone if it refuses to stand up as the co-equal branch the Constitution made it.” — Barack Obama; October 2007

“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.” — Barack Obama; December 2007

“I don’t think that should be a top priority of us, raiding people who are using … medical marijuana. With all the things we’ve got to worry about, and our Justice Department should be doing, that probably shouldn’t be a high priority.” — Barack Obama, June 2007

“I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users. It’s not a good use of our resources.” — Barack Obama; August 2007

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.” — Barack Obama; March 2006

“What I am opposed to is a dumb war.” — Barack Obama; October 2002

“I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank.” — Barack Obama; October 2007

“Why don’t we close Guantanamo and restore the right of habeas corpus, because that’s how we lead, not with the might of our military, but the power of our ideals and the power of our values. It’s time to show the world we’re not a country that ships prisoners in the dead of night to be tortured in far off countries. We’re not a country that runs prisons which locks people away without ever telling them why they’re there or what they’re charged with. We’re not a country which preaches compassion to others while we allow bodies to float down the streets of major American cities. That’s not who we are.” — Barack Obama; 2007

“That means no more illegal wire-tapping of American citizens. No more national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime. No more tracking citizens who do nothing more than protest a misguided war. No more ignoring the law when it is inconvenient. That is not who we are. And it is not what is necessary to defeat the terrorists.” — Barack Obama; August 2007

“The President is not above the law, and the Commander-in-Chief power does not entitle him to use techniques that Congress has specifically banned as torture. We must send a message to the world that America is a nation of laws, and a nation that stands against torture.” — Barack Obama, December 2007

“I also reject the view, suggested in memoranda by the Department of Justice, that the President may do whatever he deems necessary to protect national security, and that he may torture people in defiance of congressional enactments. In my view, torture is unconstitutional, and certain enhanced interrogation techniques like ‘waterboarding’ clearly constitute torture.” — Barack Obama, December 2007

You wanted some examples of Obama’s hypocrisy.

    There you go.

      1. @Jonathan Hughes – Proverbs 11:9 would not apply to me as I am not trying to destroy Mr. Obama with my mouth (typing). I’m trying to support him. Big difference. However, Clare Daly is a different story. I don’t like what she said about our President as it’s not true and she’s just as guilty of hypocrisy and war crimes due to her affiliation with Socialists, Sien Fien, and IRA. Aren’t the last two terrorist groups?

        1. Glad to hear that Proverbs 11:9 does not apply to you. To jail a person because they cannot pay indeed terrorizes a person. There is no kindness in it having no charity in it. God forgave our infinity debt. For another to not forgive a debt cannot have God in them that forgives debts. That person cannot be forgiven by God.

  13. @Jill – Can you provide citations on your claims? This doesn’t sound at all how the CIA boots-on-the-ground assess a predator strike. The POTUS does not have to make an executive decision to launch a hell fire missile. That is left up to the DCI (Director of CIA) John O. Brennan (John was the actual inventor of the CIA drone strike). Just as long as the scenario fits a particular “profile”, as you say, the decision can even be made by a SRO operating the drones (i.e. from Nevada). If someone screws up Mr. Obama gets blamed for it as “The Buck Stops Here” right?

The one case of “collateral damage” to a 16-year old American boy in Yemen was because of his dad (an Al-Quaeda group leader) not watching him and allowing him to carelessly walk into a desert CIA drone kill-zone. That was an unavoidable accident. The CIA spotter on the ground gave bad data back to Langley by not seeing (or caring about) the boy walking into the KZ thinking his dad was there. How is that Mr. Obama’s fault? They got the bad-guys too.
