Many civil libertarians around the world have rallied to support Clare Daly, Irish Parliament member of the United Left Alliance representing Dublin, after she challenged the prime minister and the reception given to President Barack Obama who she called a war criminal. The video of the speech is below. Daly called Obama the “hypocrite of the century” for lecturing children on peace while expanding drone attacks and funding civil wars around the world. Many in the United States particularly took note of her attack on the type of cult of personality surrounding Obama that seems detached from his horrendous record on civil liberties, privacy, and international law.
Daly noted that it is not just the government but the media fueling this cult of personality — spending endless time on what the Obamas were ordering for lunch rather than discussing his authoritarian policies. She is the former Socialist Party Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North constituency but resigned from the Socialist Party and joined the United Left Alliance TD.
Daly is being attacked as immature and radical in her comments.
What do you think?
Darren Smith: “There is a lot of rationalization when it comes to President Obama. Many people support him because allegedly supports ordinary working people, yet he personally displays great amounts of arrogance and the spending habits of his first lady are more toward Imelda Marcos than most other first ladies.” Your words. In many circles calling a black man “arrogant’ is a dog whistle. Maybe you made the remark because you are culturally unaware. Secondly, “the spending habits of his first lady are more toward Imelda Marcos than most other first ladies. Talk about white privilege…Are you to young to remember Jackie Kennedy or Nancy Reagan?
So if I don’t mention racist words if I criticize President Obama then why did you still infer that I am a right-winger or a racist? How were my statements different than those persons you mentioned above? Right off the bat you claimed that my comments were racist in nature and then you compared my quotations as being the same as those from a right wing website.
So tell me. How does one not “exude those qualities”? If I don’t mention racist quotes but others do, according to your logic I am then being racist. So how is someone to comment here without being racist?
Darren, The story drips with covert racism and sexism. Just because you don’t mention it does not mean it is not there. There have been some very good posters that have been quite critical of Obama that did not exude those qualities. Off the top of my head… Anon nurse, ap, bettykath, Tony C, Don S and another older guy that posted from Wisconsin.Blouise might remember his name. and I am sure there have been many more.
Oops, there it is.
Swarthmore mom
So you mean the thread back in September where you inferred that I was a racist because I compared the spending habits of Michelle Obama to Imelda Marcos?
Your words “Frankly, This is shaping up to be the most racially polarized election ever. The comment by a poster comparing Michele Obama to Imelda Marcos is an example”
to which I replied
“I am curious as to how you can logically link racism with my comment about how Michelle Obama spends like Imelda Marcos. So any question about the spending habits of a first lady is a racist issue? “
And you wrote:
“Darren, Cmon, an “arrogant” black man and his Imelda Marcos like wife.”
Nowhere did I mention the race of these two persons but you did. Then you continued with declaring that right wingers are those who criticize the president.
“I found the Imelda Marcos reference on “free republic” as well as other right wing sites. They seems to think the Obamas should not occupy the WHITE HOUSE or wear nice clothing.”
So with this topic (Irish Politician) you stated that you didn’t bring racism into the fold, but it has often been the case with you that you do use the notion or inferrence that anyone who criticises the president is either a racist or a right winger, therefore nobody can have legitimate standing to criticize this president.
Darren,
Tony posted a link to an excellent article on the psychology of decisions and emotional investment the other day. If I could recall what thread it was on, I’d provide the link, but I’m having a brain cloud on it. Maybe he’ll see this and repost the link.
SOTB,
re link: smarta$$
“All in all what is his true agenda as you see it?”
Protecting the MIC gravy train, the money in politics, perpetuating a two-tiered justice system, expanding the imperial unitary executive and avoiding punishment of pols for their crimes (but especially when both parties have engaged ins said crimes). In short, he’s the worst kind of oligarch/plutocrat/kleptocrat and a boot licking fascist.
You asked.
SOTB,
Can’t … he/she’s dead … but he/she was at the site making lots and lots of guesses
@Blouise – well it’s 17-years old now… I’ll give you a hint what happened on the same month 8-years before that? Well SOSUS (and it’s relative ADS-IUSS) detected something interesting off LIS. Eyewitnesses saw it surface and a crew member using a MANPAD. USN was already looking for it but had that sinking feeling when they saw the plume (“oh sh*t” moment). Clinton didn’t want to make an international incident and told the FBI SAIC to dummy up over the truth. They got their friends at Langley (DS&T geeks) to do those ridiculous cartoons of what didn’t happen. Google: whistle-blower Timmerman who they did NOT listen to when he blew the whistle MONTHS before it set sail from Hormuz. They bought it from the Russians.
I could be all wet. Go ask your relative. He/she knows…
Daren,
Tsk, tk, tsk….. You’ll be sent to bed without your porridge……
SOTB,
Re 300: adoption?
Re the River: … great place is Marietta. Used to take very scary ferry which was just a flat plank … pull your car on it, set the brake and get out to stand beside it. No sides on the ferry. The ferryman pulled you over with ropes. Got off in Sistersville to stay in a lovely old hotel. Well, it used to be lovely when the locals ran it. Wouldn’t go there now because what I found pleasantly scary with the ferry when I was young I now find dangerously scary when I’m old. Go figure.
Perhaps you’re right … we shouldn’t talk about it … even to venture a few guesses. 😉
Now your just pushing my buttons… 800? Please don’t get me started. Echelon (PRISM) is already going nuts with the red spinning lights and submarine klaxon horns on my postings over the last 3 months! NSA-CSS is already sitting across the street from my unfortunate wi-fi host/hostess 🙂
I’M JUST A GOOD GUESSER AND MOST OF MY INTEL COMES FROM WAYNE MADSEN!!!
To be part of the 300 you’d have to be BORN into it like little Prince “Phillip” yesterday (my bets are on the name PHILLIP by the way)
Do you know how they find truffles? Uucckk!
I don’t have any relatives in there (I think) but I have fellow employees/contractors who have and many other alphabet soups. We contract to a major US corporation in operational research analysis much like Snowden did. Snowden did it for Booz-Allen. We work for http://tinyurl.com/meohjyf
P.S. – What do you want to know about 800? Careful what you wish for…
Darren Smith, I think you and i got off on the wrong foot so to speak when you compared Michele Obama to Imelda Marcos. You really know nothing about my political beliefs except what you extract from what I say here. I don’t read your guest blogs and don’t plan to so move along..
sotb,
Yeah … I liked Study 1 just fine …. might even volunteer as a control.
@Hubert Cumberdale – Everything you said sounded like the guy BEFORE Obama and that guy’s dad. What is your beef with this POTUS? Did he step on your financial toes? Are you a doctor, hospital administrator, insurance executive, petroleum mogul, neoconservative politician, or are you just a ridge-runner from Bugtussel with a free Netzero account with a broken-down Chevy pickup on blocks in the front yard, screen door with no screens, a shotgun-shack home with a satellite dish out back, and 8 kids on look out for revenuers? And you voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin? Why? You don’t even have a pot to… (you know the rest). 🙂
Sorry if I got you all wrong… Just can’t see your angst for Mr. Obama. I guess he has the wrong amount of melanin for you. I don’t know… Nothing else makes any logical sense.
Gene asked:
“If the answer is “no”, then the issue of a cult of personality is moot because you are clearly engaging in such behavior.”
~+~
You and I are unlikely to get an answer on that because it is too “hypothetical” a situation. To those who so blindly support President Obama most of them cannot conceive, or rather concede, that he can do any wrong, which enables him to do worse. So any mention of the president committing an impeachable act is as impossible as reversing gravity so it, to them, does not merit discussion.
To me it is more like avoiding the truth and saving face.
sonof,
Well, I had a close relative who worked for the CIA … I think … ;)… anyway … I wonder what that makes me. Wouldn’t mind being part of the 300 for a day so I could go to the spa for a truffle treatment.
Now, let’s talk about the downed 800.
Who says I’m proud of my handicaps? Am I a bit psychotic? You already know that answer Gene. I am no leader as I’m too Machiavellian. At least I wouldn’t be a loved leader. Maybe a despicable one.
Mr. Obama should not be like me at all but I think he may be at times. Yes he is manipulative but I think in the real world or the big city, as they say, you have to be like this in politics. Is Mr. Obama Christ-like? Hell no. He admitted to Katie Couric that he would lie to the American public if he had to. So would I but maybe my threshold is lower than OHB’s. All in all what is his true agenda as you see it? To hurt America for his own financial goals like his predecessor and that guys dad did? I say no he’s only trying to help America by any means necessary. I am like that, money is not my first love. My parents used to chide me about that. I threw a $5 bill in the Ohio River once when I was 5-years old. And I’m still poor. Can’t wait till Jan 2014 so I can get some free meds I need… 🙂
My typing is pretty bad so don’t sweat it. My friends call me SOTB. I said you didn’t have to actually read it. I said just skim it. It is a wall of words and I hate that. But SAGE is a credible source. Did you like how they got the test subjects drunk first? Dr. Edelson sounds like Dr. Sydney Gotlieb only sans evilness. 🙂
