Weiner Scandal Focuses Attention On Lucrative Deal Given Huma Abedin

225px-Hillary_Clinton_official_Secretary_of_State_portrait_crop220px-Huma_AbedinWhile some Democratic voters continue to debate whether to support Anthony Weiner in the wake of additional sextexting to women (after he resigned from office), there has been attention drawn to the extraordinary deal given to his wife Huma Abedin, a close aide to Hillary Clinton. This town is infamous for such special deals but this one takes my breath away. It appears that Abedin, the deputy chief of staff at the State Department under Clinton while she was at the State Department, was granted status as a “special government employee” after the birth of her son in the midst of the scandal. That allowed her to continue to earn $135,000 as a government employee while also earning as much as $355,000 as a consultant for Teneo. You guessed it. Teneo Holdings happens to have former President Bill Clinton is a board member.

One report states that as much as half of the outside income of $335,000 may have come from Weiner’s income. That would still leave a sizable outside income.

Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) is demanding to know how such a deal could be approved and I think he has good grounds to demand answers. I truly hope that this allegation is proven to be completely false because if any part of it is true, it is graceful. I do not understand why a State Department employee would be receiving a huge salary while working for an outside group. It is an insight into America’s Animal Farm where people like the Clinton maintain allies in a type of feudal estate system. She is indeed “special” because she is part of the Clinton camp and therefore had to be taken care of at the lifestyle that she had become accustomed to. Weiner and Abedin were always a power couple, both ambitious and well-connected. However, this deal may show how the ruling elite in this country in both parties maintain themselves and their allies in government.

The company by the way is active in trading on the stock market – a curious side job for a government employee. The company has various ties to the Clintons. It was co-founded by former Bill Clinton counselor Doug Band.Even without that job, what exactly was she doing for the State Department salary while in the scandal bunker with Carlos Danger?

Abedin appears to have confirmed the consultancy but stressed that “was not asked, nor did I provide, insights about the Department, my work with the Secretary, or any government information to which I may have had access.” I am less concerned about that than the double dipping in salaries and paying a State Department official while she works for an outside company.

  1. No insider trading at Teneo , What a bunch of crooks, What this country needs is a French revolution.

  2. What’s really shocking to me is that I am not shocked by this. Seems to be business as usual, yet they keep saying they must raise taxes because they don’t have enough money to pay for everything.

Remember Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter, still collecting salary from us taxpayers? More than $278,000 since he has been arrested. Whatever happened to that concept of a speedy trial? Government is broken. It ain’t working the way it was designed to work.

  3. What do people expect?

    This is shocking?

Graft, corruption and immorality abound in the Clinton’s world. Were I a cartoonist I would draw HRC as Pigpen with all of her many scandals flowing around her as she walked.

The only shock is that she and Bill ever held more than the governorship of Arkansas.

  4. It has been said that when we lose our democratic principles and ethics as a nation, it will NOT be due to an outside force, but from within: “Like a rotten fruit that falls from the tree of liberty, eaten to the core by worms of corruption.”

  5. I am a lot more concerned about Justice Thomas getting all those gifts while his wife was working for the firm that had the case before the court. Then Thomas committed perjury NINE TIMES. Why is he still on the bench?

  6. Attention Corporate Citizens:

Support Hillary in 2016. It pays, and she has a record that proves it.

  7. Christine – I’m with you and that sentence raised my eyebrow, too. What? I am often dismayed at the typos in the good Professor’s work. Words mean things. If you want me to read what you have written, JT, it is incumbent upon you to read and edit it first. There have been times I have not shared your blog due to the typos. The message was lost.

  8. Please, please, please get a reliable proofreader!!

I’m sure you DON’T mean to say THIS: ” I truly hope that this allegation is proven to be completely false because if any part of it is true, it is graceful.”

  9. This affair now encompases both the American and the British uses of the word “sleaze”.

  10. Mespo, right on. The pigs no longer represent but merely feed at the public trough, helping their minions get a taste. They are all disgusting. Go Justice Party in 2016.

  11. Mark…. Mespo…..

This is just southern hospitality….. To that northern aggression…… I mean urges….

  12. Lrob, Amen. The Native American culture understand the profound significance of the circle. Bill, Hillary, Huma, Anthony. The public trough is now the size of Alaska.

  13. In the next round of Prez Primaries, I want a None of the Above button. Should 50% of votes choose None, the entire slate is dropped and barred from the election cycle. Would their tunes change fast, or what?

  14. Forgive my Southern moral outrage coming out, but all of these people — from the sexter to the sextee; to the shameless, self-aggrandizing blogger who revealed the names because he didn’t get paid; and even to the obsequious cuckquean herself — appear quite despicable. I could have gone an entire lifetime happy to have not known about them, their fetishes, or their delusions of grandeur. The sickest perversion on display is unbridled ambition crossed with virulent hubris.

As Cromwell said to the Rump Parliament in words so aptly suited to this occasion, “You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately … Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”
