Man Accidentally Lights Himself On Fire At Halloween Festival . . . People Grab Their Cameras And Laugh As He Burns

mqdefaultThere is a horrific report out of Hollywood where a man accidentally lit himself on fire and, while some people struggled to help him, other party goers gathered around with cameras and filmed the man as he burned. Some reports had people dancing and laughing as people tried to push them back so the man could be assisted. Gilbert Estrada, 51, later died. People posted the scene below on YouTube which shows people cheering and laughing as Estrada lay on the ground.

The festival was held in West Hollywood as part of an annual Halloween carnival. There were good people in the crowd who prong forward to help. They offer some hope for this species but they appear outnumbered by people who seem to be enjoying the scene. We have previously seen cases where people step over unconscious or dead people, sometimes taking pictures, without calling police. We have also seen the disgusting reaction of people who laugh at the suffering of others. I have long been mystified by the latent cruelty and detachment of many in our society. As have discussed the common scene of bystanders who laugh and call for suicidal individuals to jump to their deaths so they can watch. Somehow these people were raised without a modicum of humanity and are clearly detached from the suffering of others.

In this case, Estrada reportedly was wearing a sniper costume made of burlap sacks and straw. Witnesses said that he ignited the hood when lighting a cigarette. That is not uncommon as an accident on Halloween as we have seen.

  1. Els DL, Yes, it was the Federal Bureau of Prisons Penitentiary. The Army Disciplinary Barracks is just down the road. It was an education, and the inspiration for me was to get another job. It was a recession. I had just served a year as a Vista Volunteer and I needed a job. I had student loans to pay and I was brought up that your work hard and pay your debts. Thankfully, I was offered a job as a juvenile probation officer and I got the hell out. It was a very professional staff. There were a few cowboys, but the Captains and Lt.’s were honorable, good men who kept the cowboys in line or shit canned them. No union so you can actually fire bad employees.

  2. @Nick Spinelli, you say you worked at Leavenworth, Kansas? Is that UPS Leavenworth? Somehow that would make sense to me as I’ve read your comments on this bog for quite a while now. Not a inspiring work place I gather.

  3. I hate to sound like I am blaming the victim, but I cannot imagine what anyone wearing a ghillie suit would be thinking to light a cigarette while wearing one.

  4. Mike,
Ignore. It was just another veiled attempt at a gotcha, but missed the whole point, which is the fact the Genovese murder set social psychologists investigating what has been named the “bystander effect.”

  5. What a sickening display of depravity on part of the fractions of human beings who stood by and did nothing.

Oky, There were some white collar criminals @ the camp, along w/ a politician or two. The camp is where Michael Vick served his time. The prison was maximum security for violent offenders.
    =======================
I did some time at a joint where the opposite was true.

  7. Oky, unmarried women, a force to be reckoned with. Unmarried men must’ve reacted to a few of Cucinelli’s stranger ideas regarding sex.

  8. It always amazed how people like Ollie North and Lance Armstrong could not be seen as complete lying phony’s immediately.

  9. **The prison was maximum security for violent offenders.**

I understand & know you do as well.

The other day (known by govt records as a violent mass murderer) Ollie North came to town & the local polecats get on their knees to lick his boots!

Somewhere I had those audio tapes , presented as evidence to US Congress, of him & Poindexter laughing that they murdered a small village of 300 in Central America so their buddies could take over their land for a banana plantation.

That’s just one small example of a major sociopath still walking around free to continue murdering.

  11. leej, The NYT has “respected” reporters who created myths and winning awards, only to be later proven to be complete fiction. “The truth shall make you free.”

  12. California. Pirate Territory. Do not go in or offshore. If you must fly over then please flush the toilet over LA.

  13. The word “sociopath” is bandied about here more than when I worked @ Leavenworth, where there were a thousand sociopaths.

    1. “Leavenworth, where there were a thousand sociopaths.”

Perhaps even some of the guards.

  14. Some folks aren’t very good @ math. 38-3= 35. The narrative was 38 people ignored the calls for help. Just like the narrative where that poor Polish girl was offered up as a martyr, jumping on a tragedy to make a political point. The GBer who put up that post reported the error w/ class and dignity. I have always respected him and do more so now for having done that. He was real self esteem.

Freakonomics really bothers the conventional wisdom lemmings. That was their intent. A lot of folks had their eyes opened. Some choose the comfort of the narrative. C’est la vie.

Freakonomics was written by two guys with all the wit and wisdom of…..Thomas Friedman, aimed at a particularly gullible audience and it seems they found their mark right here. Some may call it economics, but then some felt Milton Friedman was a great economist. Then again there are those that loved it because of confirmation bias, those types only recognize people who only agree with their ideas. Also known as “garbage in, garbage out”.
