MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Best wishes to everyone celebrating Christmas.

We have a white Christmas in Chicago with a little more snow on the way.

Last night, I made our traditional Cioppino soup — a tradition started by my late father, Jack Turley. I hated the soup as a kid so fate has left this tradition to me. I am now as addicted to the soup as my father was.

The kids left their usual Christmas notes that again forced Old St. Nick to stay up to answer a series of probing questions. Madie asked if he seriously puts children on naughty lists and more mundane questions like Santa’s age and favorite cookies (he gave kind but non-committal responses). She did ask all all of the names of the “Raindeer” so Santa evaded the question by noting that he actually as “reindeer.”

I am about to start the cooking of the beef as well as the Yorkshire pudding, horseradish. and other traditional dishes. We will have the entire family clan over to the house. A total of 27.

All for me, I only want a defensive line for the Bears. I drove 12 hours straight from Virginia to make the Bears game only to see one of the most soul-crushing defeats in the history of the franchise. It was clear that Mel Tucker, the defensive line coach, was hoping to win the game by wearing down the Eagles by making them score over and over again. Of course, it was assumed that they would have to give us a ball occasionally but of course that proved little problem for the Eagles. We now face one of the most kinetic contests in the NFL: Bears versus the Packers for the playoffs.

The Turley family wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday. I will be toasting our blog family tonight and give thanks for the wonderful community we have created at this site.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Turley

  2. Merry Christmas & happy winter solstice season.

May your car hoods sliding down the snow hills aways steer clear of the trees. 🙂

  3. Merry Christmas and Happy Festivus. We had the airing of the grievances last night, today the feats of strength. The pole has been up for a week or so.

  4. Merry Christmas to you and yours, professor. And the same for all who visit this fine place.

  5. Merry Christmas to all!

Living next door to my daughter and son-in-law is great! My husband and I got to spend Christmas morning with our granddaughter…while dressed in our pajamas. Grandpa is busy in the kitchen at the moment making his famous eggplant lasagna. I’m done with my Christmas Day food and drink preparation now…and can sat back and relax for a while.

  6. I hope that everyone’s Christmas expectations come to pass and that all enjoy a loving day being with those closest to them. Most of my family is with me, so I’m looking forward to a wonderful day of movies and Chinese food.

  7. Merry Christmas everyone.

I was cleaning out the office bookshelves yesterday and found my Haggis recipe book I had been looking for. If anyone needs a recipe for Haggis, I have several good ones.

In the spirit of the holidays, one of my aviator friends sent the recipe for Royal Canadian Air Force Moose Milk:

To assist our bloggers who enjoy entertaining at home, I present the secret recipe for the concoction known to Royal Canadian Air Force personnel as “Moose Milk”. Originally made with milk obtained from a lactating Alces alces, the practice was curtailed when too many aviators began attending morning “sick parades” due to a variety of injuries leaving no-one to “slip the surly bonds”.

    RCAF MOOSE MILK

    12 Egg yolks
    40 Oz Canadian Whiskey
    40 Oz Rum
    5 Oz Kahlua
    10 Oz Maple Syrup
40 Oz Milk (homogenized – don’t use skim!)
40 Oz Heavy Whipping Cream (not canned)
    1 Cup Sugar
    Method:
Beat yolks until fluffy and well mixed.
Add sugar and beat mixture until thick.
    Stir in milk and liquor
Chill at least 3 hours. Best if can sit overnight.
Then: Whip cream until good and thick (canned whip cream will be flat – don’t use!)
Fold in whipped cream (it will appear as if it has totally thinned out, but don’t worry)
    Chill for another hour.
Sprinkle the top with nutmeg and cinnamon.]
Should be kept chilled because of the raw eggs. This should not be a problem as Moose Milk disappears quite quickly.

Should serve a crowd of fifty. Or ten pilots.

  8. Merry Christmas, Jonathan, and have a good dinner. The Bears have one last chance to pretend they are a playoff team.

  9. And may you and your family enjoy a happy and merry Christmas. And when I write that, I am reminded of Pogo’s good natured and famous exaltation:: Have a Murray Crispness and a Happy Snappy New Year. Thanks to Walt Kelly and his stand against Sen. McCarthy:

Best Wishes from one who worked in Jack’s Studio at SOM, he was a good man.

  10. May all have a wonderful day and enriched experiences with whomever you share the day with…..

  11. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! from Bruce

“Santa Claus made his rounds early this year, lifting spirits and spreading holiday joy.
Sylwester Adam Wardega, a Polish actor and director known for pranking people in public, posted a video of himself posing as Santa Claus, passing out food and clothing to the homeless earlier this month.
He promised his Facebook fans that he would take care of the homeless this Christmas, and that’s exactly what he did. At one point, he even had one homeless man lead him to others, making sure not to miss anyone along the way.
This ‘Santa Claus’ shows us what the holiday season is truly all about. “
