NASA Reveals “Hand Of God”

nustar-hand-of-godNo, you probably do not have to get your life in order just yet. The cosmic “hand of God” photo released by NASA is actually the result of the explosion of a star and the ejection of an enormous cloud of material.

It was captured by NASA’s Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, or NuSTAR, and produced from high-energy X-rays. Given the cuts in NASAs budget (while continuing to spend hundreds of billions on foreign wars), it is surprising the hand did not offer a more profane message.

  1. No excerpt allowed. Please read at the link. The info must be know by as many people as possible. I found the link at naked capitalism.

  2. Maybe the “hand of God” could check to see if Jill had a comment or two snagged by WP? Thanks, in advance.

Dredd, Actually, I’m a horrible editor. If I didn’t have a great secretary my clients would have thought I was dyslexic.

And, after I wrote that, I thought of the great character in Lonesome Dove, Pea Eye. Not the sharpest arrow in the quiver.

    I dig.

I have had good secretaries too.

Without them people think I am a poet. 😉

If you retire from that, you could become an Editor with that “editor’s eye” of yours.

  6. Reblogged this on SiriusCoffee and commented:
Of course the atheists are quick to jump in to dissemble any indication that this might actually be the “hand of god”. My they are a touchy bunch.

  7. The U.S. is the biggest market for Chinese goods, how about a tariff that will pay off their portion of the national debt in a couple of years?

Will the lost continent of Atlantis finally be found….. Is this a sign…..

Their descendants are in DC (Economists – Aliens From Cygnus?) sinking yet another civilization – ours:

China became the world’s largest trading nation in 2013, overtaking the US in what Beijing described as “a landmark milestone” for the country.

China’s annual trade in goods passed the $4tn (£2.4tn) mark for the first time last year according to official data, after exports from the world’s second largest economy rose 7.9% to $2.21tn and imports rose 7.3% to $1.95tn.

As a result total trade rose 7.6% over the year to $4.16tn. The US is yet to publish its 2013 trade figures, but with trade totalling $3.5tn in the first 11 months of the year, it is unlikely to beat China.

The shift in the trading pecking order reflected China’s rising global dominance, despite a slowdown in economic growth last year.

The “NSA” typo is definitely Freudian, or maybe Orwellian?

Good eye Nick. The military NSA no doubt spies on NASA scientists too.

  10. Seems to be a good place to listen, a la SETI, for signals from old civilizations if there are any.

Our current scientific understanding is that all stars go into decline after supporting any carbon-based life forms on planets orbiting them.

Many of those stars go nova, or like our Sun, expand out to disintegrate or otherwise destroy the planets near them before shrinking back down into white dwarfs or the like.

That would mean that the oldest life, assuming evolution takes place on planets orbiting them, would be in those solar systems where the stars are at the end of their “life.”

Perhaps SETI should listen for “cries for help” or “we are outta here” signals in those locations (No Need To Shoot In The Dark).
