Hamza Ali Ben Ali just may be the most obnoxious and least intelligent arrestee this week on our blog. He is set to be sentenced after he taunted police in a dangerous high-speed motorcycle race and then posted the video on YouTube. His lawyer would later insist that the police could not prove it was Ali. However, he was wearing an electronic bracelet with a GPS after a prior conviction and pending deportation proceedings. The police were able to match the GPS locations with the video to convict the Algerian citizen. UPDATE: The sentence is in. He received four years in prison for his stunt.
The 31-year-old positioned a camera facing backwards as he took police on a dangerous 115 mph chase — putting dozens of cars in danger. Police showed admirable restraint in not engaging in a high-speed pursuit that has often resulted in accidents. Instead, the officer kept back. Ali would however slow down to taunt the officer. He had removed any plates on his Honda CBR 1000 bike. However, the officer spotted the camera and the police department waited to see if he would be stupid enough to post on YouTube. He did — about two weeks after the Oct. 21, 2012 incident.
What makes Ali truly moronic is that he has a prior record of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated battery of a police officer in Chicago’s Cook County. He also faces immigration proceedings and another motorcycle-chase case in suburban Will County. So he goes on this dangerous stunt In Downers Grove.
Ali has now guaranteed not only a trip back to Algeria but a stint in prison before he steps on a plane. This is one guy who can truly bring down the IQ of an entire nation.
