We have another addition to our series “Perils of the Press.” There are Freudian Slips and then there are Freudian falls from a high cliff. The later seems of a more apt description of MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski mistake this morning. After interviewing Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer, Brzezinski said “keep it right here on Morning Jew.”
I honestly hope that people are not too hard on Brzeninski. Such slips have happened to all of us and often tend to be funny, if somewhat embarrassing. When hosts like Brzeninski are juggling scripts and interviews, I am more surprised that such slips do not happen more often.
Freudian slips are actually called parapraxis and thought to be a mistake in speech that reflects some “dynamically repressed” thought. As a juris doctor, I would diagnosis a simple close pronunciation of “Joe” and “Jew” but then again I have so many Freudian slip and falls that I could keep an army of analysts busy for centuries. I once introduced a person who caught me at a speech with a long tirade against the legal system named Coring as “Mr. Boring.” To his credit, even he got a good laugh from that one as my face turned a bright red.

It’s a shame people choose to see the worst, especially in this case where we could collectively laugh at–and with a person who has done something ALL of us have done. It could be humbling celebration of humanity.
slohrrs, Here’s the sadness. The word “Jew” has been the proper term and it has been said w/ derision and hatred. Think of the WW2. There was a poignant scene when Private Mellish sees a parade of captured Nazi prisoners. He goes up to them as they march past, showing them his star of David and saying boldly and proudly “JUDEN..JUDEN.” But, the PCers want to take that proud history away in the name of sensitivity. That is why PC must be defeated by any means necessary. Mika did nothing wrong. She’s liberal so she won’t get much crap. Liberals give themselves passes on stuff like this, whether it’s deserved or not.

Yeah, well, if people want to be held hostage by semantics, that’s fine with me. Let’s get right to it. These labels will disappear in time, as long as the next bloodletting doesn’t claim all human life. My grandmother was a Jew… or was she Jewish?? My wife is Arabic, or is she an Ahrab? OK…. what does that make my son??? I know, I will calculate the correct terminology, and will have that as registered PC, and that is the only way he will be addressed. Plus, there needs to be a new branch with thousands and thousands of employees to monitor the situation.
Or maybe in my house we’ll just stick with the “sticks and stones” thing.

Here’s my problem. The word “Jew” is being worked on by the PC Police. They want you to say Jewish. They want you to say “He’s Jewish” instead of “He’s a Jew.” I have known Jews all my life. I have called them Jews. They have NEVER expressed a problem w/ it. They have changed it from colored, to Negro, to black, to Afro American, to African American to person of color. It is insane! I stayed w/ black and I will never change.

Feudian slips are one of the great pleasures in life. They are funny when they happen, plus they keep on giving as you ramp up the grief when analyzing the cause. Bwaaaahahaaaaa!

As a first year lawyer, I drafted a brief in a legal malpractice case arguing that the plaintiff, Clint Johnson, had no standing to bring suit against our client, a law firm, because he was not a client of the firm. The partner loved the draft, except where I misspelled plaintiff’s name as “Client Johnson.” 🙁
