Egypt has continued its crackdown on social and religious minorities under Sharia law with the arrested of seven men for debauchery, “incitement to debauchery” and “publishing indecent images” after they were shown taking part in a “gay marriage” video on social media networks. The prosecutor declared that the video was “humiliating, regrettable and would anger God.”
Homosexuality remains a crime in Egypt and police have now identified nine of the 16 participants shown in the film.
Prosecutors also ordered “medical tests” of the men Just in April, four men were sent to jail for eight years for homosexuality. Raids targeting homosexuals have been increasing in Egypt.
The video shows the celebration on a Nile riverboat in April but posted only posted in August.
Once again, there remains a disconnect between U.S. foreign aid that goes to country’s have jail people for being gay, punish religious minorities, or deny women and girls fundamental rights. These taxes are paid by millions of people who would be subject to arrest in these countries due solely to their religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or insistence on equal rights.

We bend over backwards fore queers like moms don’t matter. We delegit mom’s unions to real fathers …so queers feel fulfilled. We do this sharade while the world order sifts. Where are the men with balls? Are the no men left? We see putin as good? Because no american men have balls. Correction. They have golf balls.

I say beat them back in the closet all they want is to be dads and fags which contridict being born gay. They just want concubines …..to have their kids will they fist f. iwomen don’t have time for that. Not today’s women. Stone them to hell and back mothers matter and I am not afraid.
on a side note everything else is about pipelines but someone presumes americcan women to dum to comprehend that.
@Darren – I personally never ignore the plight of the oppressed however whenever the United States becomes actively engaged in these struggles its always about “Merica not minding it’s own business” and worse yet, the tin pot despots turn into something worse like what you have in Egypt now instead of Murabank. Truly, how can we change something like that when recently they were murdering Coptic Christians? It’s a question of balance like everything else and if we meddle like a parent, it makes things worse. If we set an example and then show love and forgiveness, perhaps they will eventually have a regime that will be more receptive.

I come to this blog b/c it usually has one or two topics, sometimes more, in which I’m interested. It isn’t just the initial post, but the comments that I find interesting. Some comments are in line with my thinking, some are not, but most tend to be informative and broaden my understanding of the topic.
However, interspersed among the comments are many comments that are passive/aggressive personal attacks, trolls, or negative characterizations of one or more commentors. Just because no specific person is named it doesn’t mean that the comments are civil. They are NOT civil. They are an unnecessary negative distraction. They are too numerous to just ignore.
It’s very disappointing that JT doesn’t see how distracting, and even destructive, that these comments are. They are personal attacks and should not be allowed. I would love to continue to come to this blog, but its value is in the high quality of most of the comments. Unfortunately, the personal attacks/trolls/negative characterizations that are too numerous to ignore make it not worth my time.
I totally agree with this. I remember at first reading his bright and shining posts and then the venal comments that had nothing to do with the post. Lots of racial hatred. I would get confused on who was what and then get attacked. Lots of Pseudo Intellectualism. John is the real deal. I don’t know why he lets this go on.
Lets all agree, no more money to theocrats in the MIDDLE East.
OT My gripe yesterday was an emotional reaction while I was tired. Well, I’m not so tired today so I’ll try a more reasoned post.

@Darren Smith ” If the worlds sits on its hands you then consign these people to more oppression.”
I think you have made a good point. But that is only part of the story.
We will have to deal with these populations one way or another.
The more and more effectively we move to communicate our ideas to these people the better our chance of reaching a peaceful understanding.
Of course we want to help the oppressed. But the strongest reason we have for reaching out to them and maintaining communication with them is our own self interest.
To paraphrase some one – talking is a lot better than fighting.
BFM, I fully support using sanctions against such governments. The less support or funding they get from us the better they understand that we don’t sanction their actions. I don’t at all say tha we can’t use diplomatic channels either. I’m not quite sure why you have assigned such notions to me. I don’t believe I’ve ever indicated that we should embrace any strict isolationist stance toward these countries. I do think we need to be realistic though in how much we can influence foreign countries to “do it our way”.
