One of the stories making the news here in Italy is the arrest of Daniela Poggiali, 42, a nurse who is accused of killing at least 38 of her patients because she found them or their relatives to be annoying. She was initially charged in the death of an elderly patient and now police believe that she is a serial killer.
The case of Rosa Calderoni draw attention of the authorities because she been admitted for a routine illness and when she died there were high levels of potassium in her bloodstream. At least 10 other deaths are now being listed as “very suspicious”.
Prosecutor Rossella Materia called her a sadist who “who draws pleasure in provoking the death of the patients in her care.” One picture on her phone reportedly shows her giving a thumbs up next to when of her patients who had died seconds before. The public statements are an interesting dimension since Italy prosecutes people for criminal libel, as in the abusive case against the parents of Amanda Knox that we discussed earlier. While comments against the police can bring a charge, it clearly does not apply when prosecutors make such comments against individuals.
Even a colleague described her as a “cold person who was always eager to work.” This included the allegation from a co-worker that Poggiali would give patients strong laxatives at the end of her shift to make work more difficult for the nurses taking over.
Poggiali told police that she is innocent and the victim of a conspiracy by her enemies.
The case could prove very difficult given the length of time that has passed.

Then there is also this curious bit:
“What’s particularly interesting about this discussion, then, is that nobody has even discussed the fact that the federal government not ten years ago created and funded a brand new office in the Health and Human Services Department specifically to coordinate preparation for and response to public health threats like Ebola. The woman who heads that office, and reports directly to the HHS secretary, has been mysteriously invisible from the public handling of this threat. And she’s still on the job even though three years ago she was embroiled in a huge scandal of funneling a major stream of funding to a company with ties to a Democratic donor—and away from a company that was developing a treatment now being used on Ebola patients.”

If they had kept to their original tasks, we might actually be prepared. Pick a federal agency, repeat that statement.
Dang, I feel like I should know that by now (2 link limit, thanks Karen). First two:
The CDC bungling this disease makes a good case for limited government. Michelle Malkin points out that the CDC has undertaken tasks which are not actually diseases…

CDC also spends 12.5 billion to fight privatization of liquor stores:

No DBQ, YOU do to not get to define anonymity.
Annie:
I reached out to you by a back channel with my thoughts on the topic.
“Anonymity is ALLOWED on this blog, UNTIL Darren violated mine. Shame on him.”
It seems that someone doesn’t understand the concept of “anonymity” as a real person in real life versus fake identities on the internet. You can’t breach the anonymity of fake people.
Pogo, JT has said he does not want arguments from other blogs brought HERE. Now will Darren delete what you have said? I doubt it. FYI, this new group of commenters are all Spinelli’s ‘gang’ from another blog. KNOWN bullies, one and all. Pogo is just the latest one.
My sock puppets were a joke. They were obviously me. I did not even TRY to disguise what I was doing, THAT was obvious. That I was singled out to have my aliases outed in a blatant violation of the civility rules speaks for itself. Anonymity is ALLOWED on this blog, UNTIL Darren violated mine. Shame on him.
Annie – several of us outed you every chance we got. Darren was the most patient.
Because she’s done it before, on other blogs.
Every conversation turns out the same, like this one.
It never ends.
I would suspend comments on this thread. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
The complaint dept. closes @ 9pm.
“Why are not the other users of sockpuppets outed? Why was Annie singled out?”
Maybe because she is the most egregious and obvious?
Pogo, Trying to show a little macho Obama said he will be dispatching Medical “SWAT TEAMS” I bet Dr. Big Gulp is a sharpshooter w/ a syringe.
Why are not the other users of sockpuppets outed? Why was Annie singled out?
If only Obama would make another speech, then I would know things will be all right.
Read the Civility Rules DBQ, then get back to me. Or don’t stick your nose into things that are not your business.
We have 2 weekend bloggers commenting on this thread. I wonder which one JT appreciates?
Darren,
What is reprehensible is that some people are allowed to continually disparage and personally attack people they dislike with impunity while some who post comments that speak to this issue are deleted because they are deemed to be “uncivil.”
You single out Annie? Why is that? Why do you feel her comments drum up drama and strife…while you don’t address others who have continually attempted to stir up the pot?
Inquiring minds want to know.
If we convince the CDC that Ebola makes lesbians get fat, maybe they’d have a greater sense of urgency.
Continual condescension shows deep insecurity.
“MY anonymity means NOTHING to him”
So…the fake you: Annie….created a slew of other fake identities which can be traced back to your first fake identity, probably through your ISP address, and you think that THIS is outing your anonymity. You can’t breach the anonymity of a fake persona who doesn’t exist. Get real. Oh. Wait. That would mean really breaching the anonymity wall.
First of all….you aren’t fooling anyone with your multiple personality identities. Everyone knew it was the first fake you. The style of people’s writing is pretty distinctive. I know that “I” can’t fake it, which is why I don’t even try.
Breaching your anonymity would be to tell people your real name, your real location. No one has done this. If YOU decide to relate information about yourself, that is different. If you do that, then you can’t whine about people knowing stuff about you.
