  1. Would you like to know what’s really depressing???? I’ve been a JETS fan since 1967………….!

  2. Nick, I am really embarrassed for you. That is a very crass thing to say about a deceased person. Furthermore, what’s even more embarrassing is that you used this forum albeit on the topic, to attack this guest blogger and human decency. Son, you need to have a long talk with you parents behing the woodshed.

  3. The other problem with this post is who is in favor of letting football players – or anyone else – get away with criminal behavior? Pretty much nobody. Are Football players – and athletes – treated more equal then others? Yes, and so are actors, cheerleaders, Italian PI’s, music stars, and extremely good looking people. We’re a superficial society and in any case will never achieve perfect equality.

  4. “Do you consider that statement a responsible criticism or is it the start of the downhill slide?”

This statement would have more credibility is every other liberal didn’t start a discussion by calling someone a ‘racist’. BTW, did you know that requiring ID to vote is “racist”? Really.

  5. I just remembered, the author of this post is a Steeler’s fan. He must have just given his white QB a pass for raping a woman in a bar bathroom.

  6. No Mark Ewbanks, but a Wi.judge ruled you can screw a cadaver, as some randy dudes did in Cassville. Wi. A local hottie died. These losers didn’t have a chance in hell to boink her when she walked this earth. So, they exhumed the corpse shortly after the funeral and had their way. True story, You can screw pooches in Denmark, Hungary, Finland and Sweden. Although, Denmark is considering outlawing boinking Fido.

  7. Chip, “Unless I missed it, the only thing missing in the post is a claim of racism.”

Do you consider that statement a responsible criticism or is it the start of the downhill slide?

  8. Not done with this topic of campus sexual assault just yet. I’m considering an article on a recent case filed by a Virginia Wesleyan College coed who was followed to her dorm and raped. VW claims inter alia that it has no duty to protect her based the recent va tech shooting case decided by the VA Supreme Court questioning that duty. They’ve got some more outrageous things to say too. Stay tuned.

  9. It is as two wolves enraged in stare: Piercing eyes….daggers of will–bring gnashing of teeth, and foaming of mouths. The end is never. The fervor too stark.

    Autumn leaves winnow past–unwittingly.

  10. the author obviously screwed the pooch on this post so he decided to distract w/ another polemic on the economy. LOL!

  11. Weekend Blogger Mark Esposito wrote:

Right now that fan base looks as rabid as ever but cracks in the dam are beginning to show on the upriver side.

Two disparate metaphors linked with the conjunction “but cracks.”

I expected better writing. Oh and, by the way, who sees cracks in the “upriver side” anyway? It’s cracks on the dry side “down river.” which portend failure.

  12. bettykath, I agree with you about posts getting personal and uncivil.

This one seemed to get the nastiness ball rolling downhill:

    William Berry

Well, if the racism is missing in the post, you can count on it being supplied by the right-wing commentariat here.

  13. Chip, “I think the point of his critics is that there’s no reason to single out football players on the basis of any objective evidence.”

That’s a responsible criticism. But the nastiness in so many posts are personal and aren’t responsible or civil.

  14. trooperyork, that explanation doesn’t really fit this particular poster, whose bio on this site highlights his glory days of HS football in the late ’70s, presumably in Virginia–the home of “massive resistance” to school integration during the civil rights era.

  15. I think the point of his post is to try to destroy any traditional American activity that the “lower classes” who he imagines as “sewer workers” and other lower life forms. Who do not realize that Football and other traditional manly pursuits are evil and must be eradicated.

It is all of a piece with trying to stop people from riding in their cars because of “climate change” so they have to sell their Chevy’s and buy some worthless electric cars. Or stopping them from drinking soda especially in large cups because….it is just not right that poor people get a bargain or something. They should drink designer Smart Water like all the smug elitists do.

I can only imagine what they will post about hot dogs and apple pie.

  16. In its development stage “Shut Up” was called “Confirmation Bias Helper,” but people figured out that the name undermined the functioning of the app.

  17. I think the point of Mark’s post was that football players need to be held accountable.

I think the point of his critics is that there’s no reason to single out football players on the basis of any objective evidence.

  18. This may be a serious topic, although I doubt it. However, once you start writing about “KIng Football” “ravaging” things you’re in the realm of silliness.
