The Florida State University community is still in shock over the killing of three people and wounding of others on campus. The bar was rocked today with the news that the alleged killer was one of our own, FSU graduate and attorney Myron May. May’s final post on Facebook was the biblical verse, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
May graduated from FSU before going on to get his law degree from Texas Tech University. He served on the law review at Texas Tech. He was shot and killed by campus police during his rampage at the Strozier Library on campus about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Five officers stopped May outside the building.
A former roommate and friend said that she was sent a cryptic message from May that he had sent her a package shortly before the rampage. She has no idea what the package contains.
New reports indicate that May thought that he was being watched or filmed by police. An ex-girlfriend said that May handed her a piece of a car and said it was a camera the police had put in his vehicle. He reportedly was diagnosed with ADHD and was on prescription medications.
She also told police May had been diagnosed with ADHD and was using prescription medication to overcome the condition, according to the police report.
According to his Facebook site, he was a devout Christian who also studied at Gulf Coast State College. He lists his current position as the “In-house Legal Counsel at Taunton Family Children’s Home.”
He was born in Dayton, Ohio, and lived Wewahitchka, Florida.
He reportedly worked as a prosecutor with the State Attorney’s Office in New Mexico .
In one posting, May left the following statement:

Before the shooting Myron May claimed the government were messing with his mind and that he was a targeted individual. His actions appear to prove that everyone who claims to be targeted by the government are insane and dangerous. Which is the govt line on “targeted individuals”. There are only two possibilities, and the other one is that he was telling the truth.
Bill – since Professor Turley is representing the House on presidential over-reach, I do not anticipate seeing the same number of articles on the uber presidency, even when he grants amnesty to millions of people and lies to the American people, again.
Paul – I suspect that ADHD was only one of his problems. An inability to focus does not make someone paranoid or behave erratically.
True, these shootings inevitably happen in gun-free zones. Criminals and the mentally ill do not follow those rules.
Again, this appears to be a mental health issue. It will take some time to investigate, but I wonder if this is another case where mental illness or the medication itself may have played some role. I do not know what he was taking, so can’t say yet.
My sympathies and prayers for the victims, as well as Mays’ family and friends, who must be reeling with loss and betrayal.
The mental health system is still broken, after all this time. As a side note, Amanda Byrnes is still behaving erratically, yet a judge released her from being involuntarily committed. Eventually we’ll read of her death, if she’s not helped. But the system allows the mentally unstable to decide for themselves, even when they don’t have a grasp on reality. Someone needs to actually die, or attempted suicide, before the system kicks in longer than a short hold.

First, my condolences to his family, foster family and friends as well. I believe that people don’t just wake up and snap. Mr. Mays was struggling with mental health issues probably since childhood but it just got worse due to maybe adverse reactions from other medications.
Of course he left warning signs and the system let him slip into the cranks. Mr. Mays should have been placed on a psychiatric hold weeks ago. Myron, was exhibiting strange behavior but he was actually screaming for help.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), is a psychiatric disorder of the neurodevelopmental type in which there are significant problems of attention, hyperactivity, or acting impulsively that are not appropriate. I wonder why such a dangerious illness was not known or suspected by the various intelligent individuals who he came in association with this practicing attorney. That is the $64 dollar question ?
buckaroo – I have known tons of ADHD people (students and adults) and have yet to have one I thought was a physical threat because of the disability.
He should have been shot for wearing a freakin’ bow tie,
And that boy wasn’t African American – probably never set foot on the mother continent,
He was straight up gansta,
BILL,
Are you also interested in the CAUSES of crime, and what can be done about them in order to reduce crime stats? E.G. End the Drug War, and you’d see an immediate and steep decline in all crime.
“You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl.”
Do I have this straight. America is undergoing a “Coup d’ Etat” at this hour, and the subject here is African-American crime?
Dog bites man. Man bites dog.
The American Constitution was just nullified and the levers of power absconded by a foundering, narcissistic, lame-duck, failed and ineligible presidential imposter with no self-esteem.
The American stage is fraught with peril. The Constitution in jeopardy.
Let’s talk African-American crime stats.
Bill, idk, did you live in Ferguson? all of this is a Media Circus that you bought into it seems like to me. I think everyone has bought the pooch.
You know, if his last comment was about the poor in spirit and we have to consider he was learned, that is very sad. Billy Graham said “Pride can take all kinds of forms, but the worst is spiritual pride. Often the richer we are in things, the poorer we are in our hearts. Have you faced your own need of Christ? Do you realize that you are a sinner and need God’s forgiveness? Don’t let pride or anything else get in the way, but turn to Christ in humility and faith—and He will bless you and save you.”
MSM is who tells you all the news that fits the print, so that you’ll be an informed person that doesn’t have to waste time questioning what you’ve been told. Helps you to keep calm and comfortably numb.
Did he play football?
Who is MSM?
W.Hefner,
Interesting points, but MSM will probably stick with some form of lone nut theory, in any case.
Yes, that is Inga.
I suspect there is much more to this story than has been made public thus far. Perhaps he had some inside info about the Police officer in Ferguson not being indicted or maybe he wasn’t considered at Justice for the AG job. We also need to know more about the victims and any possible ties. There is no logical explanation beyond mental illness.
Our sympathies with the victims.
