For conservatives, it must sound like “better red than dead” all over again. A new study in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health suggests that liberals live longer than conservatives in the United States. The researchers looked at more than 32,000 adults and tracked them over 15 years. The result was surprising: conservatives seemed to be expiring faster than their counterparts on the left. However, conservatives claimed to be happier than their counterparts in life.
It has been reported that Hillary Clinton has been working on a new campaign theme. Perhaps they should consider a “Vote Hillary Or Die” campaign.
Roman Pabayo, a community health researcher at the University of Nevada said that the group relied on more concrete data like actual death records than did prior studies. They also eliminated other factors by comparing conservatives and liberals of similar age, sex, and socioeconomic status. Notably, when divided simply between parties, Democratic and Republican party members died at the same rate, but when compared on ideological grounds, conservatives bit the dust first on average.
Subu V. Subramanian, a professor of population health and geography at Harvard was critical of the findings. His study relied on self-reporting and found that Republicans reported better health and they were 15% less likely to smoke. He also found that Republicans and conservatives were benefitted by being more religious and “more tied into social networks and organizations.”
It may still be too early for some conservatives to embrace wage equity and global warming. The difference in death rates is described by Subramanian as “slight” in the new study.

My bar is always open, and we have rooms upstairs. Stop in and give us your pipe dreams about being the purveyor of truth. The boys will get a good laugh.
happy, One of your strengths is your good humor. So, you are aptly named! He appears when he’s angry, spews venom, and then leaves. Just keep laughing @ the weirdness. The socks are old timers. Edward described them PERFECTLY earlier tonight. Their goal currently is to trash this great blog. They have a blog as well. I’ll leave it @ that.
Happy:
“Nick does not need my defense. In fact, we usually don’t run across each other that much although our philosophies are rather similar. I think it is endearing the way you are trying to recruit Edward 😉 And I love the way you keep putting a far right moralistic Bible Banging Evangelical White Hood on me. It is so refreshing. My Classical Liberal soul loves the stench of it.”

By your own words that would make Nick a “classic liberal.” Contradict yourself much? And yes you and Nick have very similar philosophies about the truth,
lolololol
LMFAO
Mespo
I think Nick told me he was a Libertarian – he can correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, thanks for being so sweet and kind and oh soo Liberal and just being you!!!!! 😉
mespo wrote: “By your own words that would make Nick a “classic liberal.” Contradict yourself much?”
It is obvious that Nick is a classical liberal. He has made it very clear that he is a freedom loving libertarian. Maybe you don’t know what a classical liberal is just like you don’t know whether an anarchist is left or right on the political scale.
A political philosophy that seeks social equality through the abolition of the state and private property is left wing. The unabomber’s criticism of the left was regarding those in the left who sought to establish social equality through government. He rebelled against technology and government.
In contrast to the left, those on the right favor governmental structure and accept social inequality as normal. The right believe that individuals who have more should voluntarily share and aid those who have less so that nobody in society lacks what they need. In the end, however, the right accepts that all are not equal in what they have, nor should they be equal. It is sufficient that everybody has enough for their needs.
Your perception of terms is bewildering.
I’m not agitated Nick. I aghast that you so effortlessly lie. First he’s a liberal then when caught with your pants down he becomes an anarchist. Then there wasn’t enough cited to suit the liar in residence. Admit it you’re a gnat of a man.
The week long banter of St. Nick and sport metaphors has thankfully ended.
I suggest that Nick have a few paragraphs in the “guest blogger” section where his continual reminders of his diligent work, his upbringing, and his pat responses can be boilerplated.
OMG \\ Destination Diva
Really
I am going to have to invent a couple of these myself just so I can be as cool as the rest of you.
😉
He’s not alone in that either.
1 Gretzky
2 Howe
3 Lemieux
4 Orr

Back to sanity!
Maybe he’s sick of you.
You seem agitated, mespo. Everything I said about the Unabomber is true. You cut and pasted less than 1% of his manifesto and sit there doing a sad, and weird, touchdown dance for copying it. WTF is up w/ you dude?? You and the other one seem particularly agitated of late. It is a full moon. I, and most sane people think Teddy was a left wing, nut job. Keep posting his entire manifesto, you apparently are getting something out of it.
Inga:
Exactly the point.
Inga – I understand why you back mespo up as I was around last summer during the great comment deletion on here and his subsequent disappearance under Mespo727272
Mespo
The Unabomber was an anarchist
hmmmmmmm

Nick, I really do think he is a random sock on here.
nick:
I’m obsessed with the truth and I note with awe that you are totally devoid of it. And people need to know that. Call me madcap.
And thanks for proving my point by totally disregarding the manifest facts of your own deception (which I carefully cited) and then substituting your own made-up ones.
Pucks flying every which way.

“Gordie Howe was the best of the best.”

To me, there was never a better hockey player than Bobby Orr even though Bobby Orr himself modestly felt Mr. Hockey was the best.
Someone needs to get some cases. Mespo’s obsession w/ me is a little creepy, sorta like the Unabomber. The Unabomber was an anarchist. He was proudly “off the grid” the mantra of all environmental wackos. He was, above all else, a psychotic killer who hated industry. Sounds pretty radical left to me. Ted was disappointed w/ the left. They weren’t left enough. But, make up your own minds. If you think he was a Reagan voter, well…WTF can I say?
Mespo, wow, that could’ve come from any number of rightists who comment here. Every word sounds familiar, we’ve all heard the diatribes against “feminists, socialists, leftists, leftists as totalitarians, gay rights advocates, disability advocates” right here from the swiftly typing fingers of out very own righties.
Is the word out from the DNC to ramp up for the 2016 election? Some of you have been pulling out your Alinsky manuals and working overtime to marginalize the right on this blog today.
Aridog
Actually, my brother who played junior A was the Montreal fan. Every one was a Montreal fan but had another team. My second team was the Red Wings, Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk, Red Kelly. Gordie Howe was the best of the best. I saw him shoot and score once while checking another player. There was an interview with Red Kelly, where he was reminiscing about when he played with Howe on the Red Wings and then moved to Toronto. In their first game as opponents Kelly gave Howe an unnecessary but solid check, just to say hello. Later Howe whooshed by Kelly and let him off. Kelly said that he felt a little sting under his chin and noticed blood dripping on the ice. Howe had shot by Kelly and slid the end of the stick handle just under Kelly’s chin to say hello. It may be true or not but it is a great story.
Things were easy for a kid growing up with six teams. We knew all the players and almost all the players were stars. If you want to watch a great movie, rent ‘The Rocket’. It’s about Maurice Richard, aka The Rocket. One of the all time greats, kind of like Babe Ruth.
happy:
Don’t blame you for defending nick. Based on his latest whopper, he’d best stick to hockey. Truth isn’t his game.
Darren Smith – thank you for reminding me to not get smarmy like the stone headed one here. I am tired of him being unable to control himself in polite company. Just look at that malevolent spew up there 🙁 so sad.
Isaac and Ari, My son is a huge hockey fan and plays a lot of pond hockey. I tell him he is the only Colombian hockey player in the world. Although he loves the NHL, he, like too many young people, care little about the history of sports. We were talking about the Islanders a while back and he laughed incredulously when I told him they were dominant back in the 80’s. Kids!
For good of the order:
Sometimes and just for giggles, I like to check the lies spewed by the right as they attempt to propagandize the rest of us. Remember the adage; false in little things; false in big things.
Let’s look at one from our resident “expert on all things” right-winger on this thread:
At 11:51 a.m. nick said “Remember, Ted Kaczyinski is a liberal.”
Assuming it was utterly false, I went to confirm my suspicions by looking at the manifesto of the man who cowardly blew people up by mail, just to see how false the claim was.
Here’s what I found. Ol’ Unabomber Ted does rail against the “Industrial Revolution and its consequences” as you’d expect a liberal to do but even a cursory reading reveals that the group he blames isn’t right-wingers like nick, but not-to-surprisingly for a madman, it ‘s the “leftists.”
Here’s para 6 & 7 of the murderous madman’s diatribe:
6. Almost everyone will agree that we live in a deeply troubled
society. One of the most widespread manifestations of the craziness of
our world is leftism, so a discussion of the psychology of leftism can
serve as an introduction to the discussion of the problems of modern
society in general.
7. But what is leftism? During the first half of the 20th century
leftism could have been practically identified with socialism. Today
the movement is fragmented and it is not clear who can properly be
called a leftist. When we speak of leftists in this article we have in
mind mainly socialists, collectivists, “politically correct” types,
feminists, gay and disability activists, animal rights activists and
the like. But not everyone who is associated with one of these
movements is a leftist. What we are trying to get at in discussing
leftism is not so much a movement or an ideology as a psychological
type, or rather a collection of related types. Thus, what we mean by
“leftism” will emerge more clearly in the course of our discussion of
leftist psychology (Also, see paragraphs 227-230.)
Ol’ wacky goes on to say that:
221. Because of the restrictions placed on their thoughts and behavior
by their high level of socialization, many leftists of the
over-socialized type cannot pursue power in the ways that other people
do. For them the drive for power has only one morally acceptable
outlet, and that is in the struggle to impose their morality on
everyone.
(…)
229. The leftist is oriented toward large scale collectivism. He
emphasizes the duty of the individual to serve society and the duty of
society to take care of the individual. He has a negative attitude
toward individualism. He often takes a moralistic tone. He tends to be
for gun control, for sex education and other psychologically
“enlightened” educational methods, for planning, for affirmative
action, for multiculturalism. He tends to identify with victims. He
tends to be against competition and against violence, but he often
finds excuses for those leftists who do commit violence. He is fond of
using the common catch-phrases of the left like “racism, ” “sexism, ”
“homophobia, ” “capitalism,” “imperialism,” “neocolonialism ”
“genocide,” “social change,” “social justice,” “social
responsibility.” Maybe the best diagnostic trait of the leftist is his
tendency to sympathize with the following movements: feminism, gay
rights, ethnic rights, disability rights, animal rights political
correctness. Anyone who strongly sympathizes with ALL of these
movements is almost certainly a leftist. [36]
Then for the coup de grace, old crazy hoodie tells us:
225. These phenomena appeared clearly in Russia and other countries
that were taken over by leftists. Similarly, before the breakdown of
communism in the USSR, leftish types in the West would seldom
criticize that country. If prodded they would admit that the USSR did
many wrong things, but then they would try to find excuses for the
communists and begin talking about the faults of the West. They always
opposed Western military resistance to communist aggression. Leftish
types all over the world vigorously protested the U.S. military action
in Vietnam, but when the USSR invaded Afghanistan they did nothing.
Not that they approved of the Soviet actions; but because of their
leftist faith, they just couldn’t bear to put themselves in opposition
to communism. Today, in those of our universities where “political
correctness” has become dominant, there are probably many leftish
types who privately disapprove of the suppression of academic freedom,
but they go along with it anyway.
226. Thus the fact that many individual leftists are personally mild
and fairly tolerant people by no means prevents leftism as a whole
form having a totalitarian tendency.
So as you see, Ted Kaczyinski was far from a liberal and blamed everything bad in society on leftists or as some people might say liberals. In that regard, he’s much like our resident “expert on all things.”
So when nick tells you something he claims operates in support of his positions, assume it’s false, check it out, and then do as I do and sit back and laugh at the notion that nick actually believes that he fools all the people around here. he only fools the willing.
mespo – at any point did Ted say what he was. He clearly could be liberal but not as liberal as the people mentioned. And you really did do a minimal cut and paste job. Sad, sad, sad.
