Despite the fact that the Senate recently voted 98-1 that climate change is real and not a hoax, Sen. Jim Inhofe, who chairs the Environment and Public Works Committee, was back on the floor mocking the notion of climate change this week. Inhofe voted for the earlier resolution but insists that man is not responsible for the changes. Those pushing for measures to combat climate change bring the overwhelming majority of scientists around the world to such debates as well as dozens of studies. Inhofe brought a snowball.
Inhofe tossed a snowball in the Senate chambers to mock the notion of climate change. He also showed pictures of an igloo his daughter’s family built during the snowstorm five years ago and noted that was the same tie that all “the hysteria on global warming” began. Addressing Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy from Louisiana, Inhofe said “Do you know what this is? It’s a snowball. It’s just from outside here, so it’s very, very cold out, … very unseasonable.” He then said “Mr. President, Catch this” and threw the snowball. Wisely not trusting the coordination of his colleagues, he threw it to a page who caught the snowball with the skill of Ernie Banks.
As we have discussed, NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said last month that 2014 was the warmest year on record. However, climate change does not mean that you do not get extremely cold weather. Indeed, you can have wild fluctuations in weather patterns. Many scientists have documents not just colder temperatures over all but such intensifying patterns. It certainly does not mean that you will not get snow in Washington, D.C.
Yet, Inhofe insisted “We hear the perpetual headline that 2014 has been the warmest year on record, but now the script has flipped.
Of course, even before the GOP took over the Senate, there was little action on climate change. If history is any measure, any substantive legislation has about the changes of a snowball in . . . the Senate.

I wonder what the True Believers back East would say if they understood, while being buried underneath all that snow, that those trusted scientists wanted to dim the sunlight that reached Earth. What could go wrong?
I mean, it’s not like they’ve changed their conclusions ever in the past decade. Oh, wait . . .
Pogo:
“The skeptics bring data and articles and arguments, the socialists bring eye rolling and insults.”
Right. That’s what people do when they feel unequal to debating facts. The same thing happened in the Ferguson case – emotional arguments that claimed they “just knew” and you were a bad person if you wanted a full investigation.
I fondly recall years ago scientists were seriously considering deliberately sending up particulates to the upper atmosphere to block the sun’s rays and cool the Earth. This method is called Geoengineering, an aspect of Climate Engineering. Because everyone “knew” the truth about Climate Change. That was when they called it Global Warming. In light of the fact that we’ve had so many record cold over the past few years, that would have been detrimental, in hindsight. Keep in mind that not a single one of the computer models has been accurate, and yet they wanted to try to forcibly change the climate of the entire Earth by blocking the sun . . . the light of which is the source for life on this planet.
Thank goodness politicians did not allow them to move forward.

2014 the hottest year on record.

The deniers bring propaganda, the realists bring science.
Inga – just so we are being accurate here, NASA is walking back their confidence level on 2014 being the hottest year on record. You have ‘old’ data.

“when Greenland was green, and earlier times as well”
Damned cavemen and their damned fires!
Ed:
Do you think we should bother to tell the anti-capitalists that the worst polluters in the world are the communists and socialists? Or that the poorer a country’s people becomes, the more they pollute? Becomes some people think you can keep repeating the same experiment and get a different result.
If we outlawed fossil fuels today, people could not afford to consume all their energy from “green” renewables, because it is so much more expensive. So, they would just go back to chopping down trees to heat their homes. I use “green” loosely, as I don’t consider technology like wind farms, that decimate wild bird populations, or concentrating solar arrays that literally fry wildlife, very environmentally responsible.
Hence why we are still in the Beta Phase of green renewables. We’ve come a long way, and it’s exciting to track our progress, but we are not quite there yet.
The skeptics bring data and articles and arguments, the socialists bring eye rolling and insults.
Here’s data from monkeys in space, i.e. satellites:

The “hottest on record” claim made by GISS was accomplished by using ground-based thermometers, data corrupted by urban heat.
Not to mention the caveat “on record” which inherently ignores that the planet has been much hotter in the very distant past, say when Greenland was green, and earlier times as well.
I love the monkies on so many levels.
There is an answer to where all the CO2 dumped into the air by people has gone — another “unexpected” addition to the climate’s complexity, plants!
“They said the impact of rising CO2 levels on plant growth has been underestimated by 16 per cent.
And as plants absorb CO2, this has led to overestimates of how much of the greenhouse gas is left in the atmosphere.”

There was nothing wrong with the AP History course. No need to change it except for whitewashing of history to make students “more patriotic”.
DBQ,
It will replace the AP course–but it won’t be an AP course.
Mr. Berry, great observation and I hope Mr. Turley responds with a thoughtful commentary on the subject.
What do AP courses have to do with the federal government…or state governments? I thought communities could decide if their high schools offered AP courses–as well as which AP courses they offered.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/oklahoma-ban-ap-us-history
State Rep. Dan Fisher (R) introduced a bill at the beginning of the month that keeps the state from funding AP U.S. History unless the College Board changes the curriculum. The bill also orders the state Department of Education to establish a U.S. History program that would replace the AP course.
From your very own liberal leaning Talking Points Memo. So people won’t feel icky if it is a conservative link and make like the three monkeys

This from the same state that wants to do away with AP history!
old nurse
This is a lie. If you are going to dispute something, your credibility is not enhanced by half truths.
The proposal is to have a State devised AP course that would replace the Federally devised course. The legislator who proposed the State course feels that the federal course is a misrepresentation, that it is biased and stresses the negatives of American History and of his State, without having any of the positives. In other words an UN-balanced course.
Now, whether you agree or disagree with his view you have to present his proposal in its entirety and not make up stories.
I have no opinion since I have not seen either courses in writing or have not personally heard any commentary on the AP course as it is now presented. I am not qualified to give an opinion on whether he is right or wrong…….and neither are YOU
In addition, it is within the Constitutional rights of the State to do this since the 10th amendment does not give the enumerated power of controlling education at the State level to the Federal Government. That is reserved to the States and to the people.
Climate change is a religion? It’s just the opposite. Climate change denial is like a religion. Its adherents don’t need no stinkin’ facts. They know humans have had no impact on the climate because….well, because they just know it.
It’s a matter of faith.
Hear hear Old Nurse!
“…what a depressing thread.”
Science welcomes disagreement.
Global warming is not science. It’s a religion, complete with the ability to buy indulgences and the defenestration of heretics.
My God, what a depressing thread. But, entirely predictable, unfortunately.
Mr. Turley, I have a serious question for you: Does it ever give you pause, is it ever reason for self-examination, that you have attracted the commentariat you have here?
Your posts are often, themselves, quite sensible. I am guessing that it is your “libertarian” streak that brings the anti-science, Obama-hating wackos crawling out of the woodwork.
