Massachusetts Couple Announces That It Will Raise 5-Year-Old Biological Girl As A Boy In Controversial Transgender Case

Gender_differences_male_femaleWe have previously discussed the issues surrounding decisions to raise children according to their non-biological sex at a young age. Now, a Massachusetts couple has decided that their five-year-old daughter must be a boy and has decided to raise the child a such. I will readily admit that I am not an expert in this field, but as a parent of four I find such a decision to be highly troubling and premature. A five-year-old child seems far far too early to make such an extreme change. Indeed, this determination was made a year earlier.

The child is now called Jack Lemay rather than Mia Lemay. The change occurred after, at age four, the parents took the child to a family therapy team which concluded that the four-year-old was transgender.

The mother, Mimi, insisted that what she saw as a “psychological burden that I don’t think anyone should have to deal with, especially not my child.” She said that the child began early on saying that she liked boy things and saying that she was a boy. The father, Joe, said that “he was showing real signs of a lot of shame and self-hatred.” Now, as Jacob, they say that the child is thriving.

They are indeed the parents and must act according to their best judgment for their child. However, as a friend, I would have strongly discouraged such a change at such an early age.

What do you think?

  1. This is child abuse.
A young child at five does not have it mentality fully developed.
    These parents are criminals.

  2. “Sources dear, always check your sources.
You disagree with the former psychiatrist-in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital and its current Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry.
    And?
You yourself asked for MD bona fides, but now you reject it because you disagree with an expert in the field.
So apparently you only accept experts who share your biases.

That’s an interesting take on “science”, i.e., not science at all, but the logical fallacies of Circumstantial Ad Hominem, Guilt By Association, and Poisoning the Well.

    Typical.

I submit the same response that I did to David Hart above. Namely, you have listed a series of reasons why McHugh should be disbelieved which are in effect just you saying,

“Oh Lookit! He doesn’t agree with ME and the Gaystapo!!! He has opinions that differ from mine!”

Sorry, but that is just a thinly-disguised ad hominem argument, with overtones of an appeal to authority.

  4. One of the world’s leading experts in autism in the 1960s, Bruno Bettleheim (University of Chicago), used to preach that autism was caused by mothers who were little more than “Nazi guards” in the family and actually hated their kids, and made families give up their autistic children so they’d be happier and have a chance at a normal life away from their damaging pressure (sound familiar?).

Turns out most of his research was faked, and his theories quietly went away. He killed himself in his 80s.

Excuse me if I don’t share the enthusiasm for ‘experts’ in psychiatry.

    1. Davidm2575, Squeaky and Pogo anyone who feels that the child molestation problem in the Catholic church was not due to pedophiles in the priesthood but rather because of “homosexual predation on Catholics” and who believes homosexuality and (by inference from his other statements) transgenderism are lifestyle choices, places him so far out of the mainstream that he is ludicrous to take his opinions seriously. As you note, he is the FORMER chair of JHMS dept of psych. I wonder what the current members of the dept. feel about this. I am not denying validity of his opinions because it is out of sync with mine and BTW these were NOT ad hominem remarks. I just gave his formerly stated opinions. He is way out of the medical mainstream, his former title be damned~!

Joan, it sounds to me like you have been taken in by propaganda. The evidence shows that 80% of the victims of Catholic priests were male on male (homosexual). Science is clear that there is no gay gene. People are not born that way, though they may develop same sex attractions from a very early age.

I agree that I do not have all the answers. But I am pretty darn sure that “experts” shouldn’t be screwing around the head of some little kid that still believes in Santa Claus. Particularly when most kids either grow out of this stuff, or just go gay and lesbian. What’s next, “experts” in the field of “Imaginary Friends”???

    1. Squeeky – I am sure there are experts in imaginary friends but you will have to find them in the phone book under “experts, imaginary”

  6. Squeeky, YOU don’t have the answers, neither do I. Let’s not pretend we do.

Quit assuming, and instead, read what is going on. Some of these kids have been told they are transgender, and like it says in the Bible, “raise up a kid in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” That works for bad and misinformed teachings, just like good teachings. Remember the Hitler Jugen, or the Red Guard??? Well, some of these kids are being taught they are trannies, and put on various regimens. Which if they follow, then the next step is KERWHAAAACK!!! Just like I said above.

See here, for example, of someone whose little weenie was almost whacked off:

I was born a boy, became a girl, and now I want to be a boy again’: Britain’s youngest sex swap patient to reverse her sex change treatment

Ria Cooper made headlines last year when she became Britain’s youngest sex change patient aged 17, after years of begging her family and the NHS to turn her in to a girl.

But now, having lived as a women for less than a year the 18-year has decided to change back in to a man after suffering huge mental anguish as a woman.

She has cancelled the full sex change operation that was scheduled for January and ceased the female hormone therapy that has seen her develop breasts saying that she has found the changes overwhelming and that they have made her deeply unhappy.

There are some kids who were taught that transgender crap, believed it, and then didn’t stop it in time. You can find their stories at this website:

    1. Inga – you are accepting the word of a conservative Southern Baptist conservative. Will wonders never cease?????

  8. @Pogo

It is nothing but gay and trannies continuing to “externalize” their problems. In its simplest form, it can be expressed as “All my problems are because straight people stigmatize me and make me feel weird and uncomfortable.”

Which, some of their problems may be exactly that. Or not, But, as time goes on, and the general level of stigma decreases, then gays and trannies (and researchers) are having to start looking more “inwardly” at the various problems. And that can be disturbing to all parties concerned. For example, some of a gay’s discomfort may simply be that he engages in a series of meaningless, and perhaps degrading, sexual encounters.

Wonder of wonders, even straight people can reach that point in their lives. That is the point when the BS level starts to go down. Which is why these studies from Sweden and Europe are generally so relevant. The stigma there is already less, and lo and behold, you are still seeing all the problems. Which means that stigmatization probably isn’t the main causative factor, if indeed much of a cause at all.

Which plays billy hell with the “being gay isn’t a problem” theory. Expect a lot of resistance to this avenue of research. You are already seeing it with ex-gays and regretful trannies being savaged by the Gaystapo,

  9. In the case of ambiguous genitalia sometimes surgery is performed in infancy, a mistake IMO, unless it’s to enable urination.

  10. “The sociatal pressure to “conform” to ideals places children at risk to suicide.

That is conclusory; a supposition at best.

The studies thus far don’t support transitioning having a reduction in the dysphoria that accompanies this disorder.

  11. Where does it state that surgery is being performed on children under age 18? By age 18 their “weenies” are no longer “little”. I assume they choose surgery, or not as an adult. I also assume that if adult males want to keep their penises because they are gay they will do so.

  12. @Max-1

Let me make it simple for you. I.Annie is in favor of regimens which cut the weenies off of gay guys.

On the subject of treating children, however, as the World Professional Association for Transgender Health notes in their latest Standards of Care, gender dysphoria in childhood does not inevitably continue into adulthood, and only 6 to 23 percent of boys and 12 to 27 percent of girls treated in gender clinics showed persistence of their gender dysphoria into adulthood. Further, most of the boys’ gender dysphoria desisted, and in adulthood, they identified as GAY rather than as transgender. In an effort to clarify best treatment practices for transgender individuals, a recent American Psychiatric Association Task Force on the Treatment of Gender Identity outlined three differing approaches to treating prepubescent gender dysphoric children.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25231780

If the little boys are put into transgender programs, then they are being prepped up for eventual sex reassignment surgery. Which means, that their little weenies will be chopped off.
