A hero cat gained international acclaim and interest for saving a six year old boy from a vicious attack by a marauding dog. She was thus awarded The Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ National Hero Dog prize.
Madeleine Bernstein, president of the local ASPCA chapter, stated: “We were so impressed by Tara’s bravery and fast action that the selection committee decided that a cat this spectacular should be the National Hero Dog.”
The cat, Tara, who lives in Bakersfield, CA received the 33rd annual award—presented to her family in a ceremony in Los Angeles.
The near tragedy unfolded in May of 2014 when her owner’s six-year-old son, Jeremy Triantafilo, was happily riding his bicycle in front of his otherwise serene Bakersfield home. Unbeknownst to this innocent young child, the sinister gaze of a most craven dog peered down upon the boy. It was nothing short of nefarious intent and a cowardly disposition that capitalized upon this deceptive ploy, the cloak of Man’s Best Friend. Most dishonorable indeed!
The cad dog stalked our child, seized the boy viciously by the leg, and hurled him to the concrete below. It had been quite enough to attack a little boy, but to do so from behind like a common backstabber shows quite decidedly how wretchedly low this mutt had sunk.
Wails of panic and pain cried out from our poor, victimized child. We are sorry to reveal such a horrible image befalling an innocent but it was this hue and cry that summoned a lightning stoked vengeance from an almost unbelievable source, the family cat Tara.
Tara vanquished this cowardly enemy with such haste and speed one could only imagine the intensity of the resolve that raced from mind to claws, hell-bent on rescue and unleashing justice upon this mutt.
Almost in mid-air Tara scored a most palpable hit, driving him over and sending him fleeing in the disgrace he deserved. It is with an almost ironic twist that the vanquished was named “Scrappy”, for it is our hero cat that deserved such a title after dethroning this beast from its pedestal of ego. But the defeat was further cemented when after a quick glance to see that the boy was in the arms of a very worried but comforting mother that Tara gave chase once again, driving the marauding beast from the tranquility of the family home forever.
It is no coincidence that Providence saved this boy through the boldness of a small but formidable champion. Tara’s deeds can be described fittingly in the biblical lessons of David and Goliath–though it certainly could be argued that Goliath was comparatively the more Honorable beast.
The family with haste conveyed our victim to hospital where he required no less than eight stitches to mend the wounds of this dastardly attack. Nevertheless it is clear this rescue from a harrowing ordeal served to only endear Tara to her loving family for her selfless acts of bravery.
Though she never sought acclaim or fame from her actions, Tara gained celebrity through the modern marvel of the YouTube Home Nickelodeon. An astonishing 800,000 souls watched in profound amazement. A year later, the ASPCA took kind notice.
Breaking all convention, Tara achieved a most unprecedented prize, the National Hero Dog Award. Hers was a victory so complete that it not only defeated this low-life dog, it destroyed all contenders of the canine species worldwide in their bids for glory.
We invite you to witness Tara’s triumphant stand in the below YouTube Color Motion Picture.
Certain we are that Tara can stand proud as a fine example of the heroism espoused by our Great Republic.

Thank you!!! I am glad you liked it! And you are right that we need some happy stories sometimes! I wonder if I am raising a “Tara” because one of my friends brought me a young kitten she found beside the road last week. I have finally settled on “Sasquatch” as his name. He is maybe 8 weeks or so old, and already he is chasing one of the bigger adult cats around, and biting the other one on the tail! He has big paws, and he will do big things! Like Pickles, the Fire Cat!, from one of my favorite little kid books:

The owners of the dogs should be fenced in, leashed, and muzzled for six months minimum. I love animals and abhor cruelty to animals, as well as children; adults, that depends. The so called freedoms that pose a danger to others, especially kids, meet to be reexamined. No one has the right to endanger others. Euthanize dangerous dogs that bite and jail the owners for six months. Then watch how much better trained, bred, and treated dogs will be.
assume you’ll get a “Purple Prose Award” for this Darren…..
Po and RandyJet, life is full of big things and little things, good things and bad things. We wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t acknowledge and discuss the full range of things, events, ideas, and beliefs. There is enough time for each, and this is a good place for it. When the topics of discussion are appropriately balanced, we are all better off for our participation. There has been plenty of talk about the bad, and even this little bit of opining on an unexpected good helps us maintain our perspectives.
Nice ode, Squeeky! Very creatively phrased.
I loved this story. I remember seeing this video on the news, when the cat barreled into the dog so hard she knocked him aside. She was in Momma Cat mode. So glad that child had such a brave pet kitty. The outcome of this unequal fight between a cat and a dog is especially amazing, because coyotes regularly eat cats.
This reminds me of that video where a cat chased off a black bear.
This story affected me deeply, because one of my Australian Cattle Dogs held off a pack of dogs that tried to attack my little boy. My dog was bitten to the bone, but he held them off and he took the damage. These dogs had bitten another kid previously but the owner refused to keep them fenced in. Believe it or not, they don’t automatically euthanize dogs that bite. They deem them Dangerous Dogs, which requires them to be leashed and muzzled, or kept securely fenced for 3 years. That gives the dogs a chance, since it’s often the owner’s fault when there are problems. That’s the designation these dogs got.

Well, maybe they will all just hyperventilate themselves??? Which as I learned, can be fatal!

To date, the govt. has not called the horrific shooting of soldiers @ Fort Hood an act of terrorism. It’s seems the grievance alliance have a long list of goodies they want before the victims are even in the ground. Liberals are a cold, shameless, heartless group. Oh, and hypocrites as well.
@PO
Thank you!!! I am glad you enjoyed the Ode!
As for randyjet, he doesn’t really want to have a conversation about Charleston, because he would have to face his part in it. Outside of Dylann just being stupid, and having a depraved mind and heart, what is the one thing that we know that he himself said motivated him??? RACE BAITING, specifically the RACE-BAITINGdone by the Trayvonazis who tried to turn a dead thug, who was mugging somebody, into a symbol of racist America. All to get votes for the Democratic Party and to make some stupid twits feel good about themselves. It wasn’t the Conferderate flag, or FOXNews, or Rush Limbaugh. Nope. What Dylann says motivated him was the Democratic Party RACE BAITERS.
Like I have said before, the whole purpose of RACE BAITING is to snare a fish. But sometimes when you go fishing, you pull up something that you don’t like, like a Gar, or a Cottonmouth, or a Snapping Turtle. People like randyjet, and his buds at Pansies for Plato, need to look in the mirror if they want to see what motivated Dylann. Because if anybody is to blame besides Dylann himself, then it is people like them.

Well written! Enjoyed it!
I must, however, second Randyjet concern on the silence on pressing issues in favor of trivial ones.
It is one of the issues I complain often about, that we may discuss Turkey and Erdogan ad nauseam while remaining stubbornly mute on major events right here, right now.

She even deserves her own laudatory ode! Maybe even an English Pindaric type one!
Holy Tara!!!
A Laudatory Ode by Squeeky Fromm
There was a time when Child and trike did play,
All up and down along the concrete drive.
Oh Happy Day. . .
Until it saw the scrappy Dog arrive!
He feral launched upon the hapless Child!
He had him in his jaws so very fell!
But Heaven smiled. . .
Tara struck, like a Demon straight from Hell!
A whirling ball of fur and fangs and claw,
And though outsized, she never wavered. No,
T’was Jungle Law,
That ruled now, that directed every blow.
The Dog released his grip upon the Boy,
And scurried back with many yip and yell.
A Mother’s Joy. . .
A Feline’s Pride, and thus we end the Tale.
But never let the praises fail!
And never make the error. . .
Of thinking one could e’er assail,
A Home guarded by Tara!

Thanks, Darren. That was fun.
Normally I ignore SFromm, but the post blaming me and others for inciting the mass murder terrorist attack is so over the top, that if I had anything to do with this blog, I would ban her. That such drivel is tolerated is what drove most of the original folks on this blog away. We used to have good debate about legal issues and politics with good comments from all points of view. Sadly this has devolved into a mindless group of political imbeciles that cannot think or make any rational point. I would ask others to think about such vicious apoligia for mass murder and parroting the killers point of view. I could go into a longer post taking apart the stupidity of her post, but since there is no possiblility of rational thought on her part it would be wasted.
Black and brown stripes, or black and gold stripes, it didn’t matter. This little cat behaved like a tigress. The boy she loved was being attacked and she immediately sprang into action to save him. Shows how cats can feel strong emotions and develop a love and attachment for another species, and when she perceived the threat to her boy, her anger at the dog overcame any fear she might otherwise have had for herself. Getting hit broadside by a hissing ball of teeth and claws like that probably would have startled and scared off a dog twice that size. Cats are very noble animals, and this one deserves every bit of praise given to her.
April Fool? I make it June 21. My calendar is off?
What Groty said.
I’m not sure, but I think this may be bait, so I’ll take the bait.
Tara identifies as a dog. A transgender dog. Tara prefers to call himself Fido. Fido has had an urge to urinate on fire hydrants since he was a puppy. Please edit the post using proper pronouns and Fido’s new name to reflect how he feels about himself, or risk having a twitter mob of deranged angry leftists destroy your career and livelihood. Thank you.
So, what do we do with the dog? Obviously it has to be put down.
So, what do we do with the dog owners? Well, we can’t put them down, but there should be some effective legal/criminal statement made. Dog owners that allow this sort of animal out loose need some quiet time to reflect, perhaps six months in a cell.
I just wish the dog’s owner were put down instead of the dog. There’s no excuse for not having socialized it, let alone failing to quarter it. If not the death penalty, then Stupid Dog Owner of the Year Award goes to the neighbor.
While I am not a big cat person, but a dog person, I loved seeing that cat kick that dogs’ rear end. It deserves all the praise and accolades that it gets. The dog will need to be put down since it attacked for no reason at all, and is a danger to others.
I have to wonder why this blog has so far avioded the subject of one of the worst acts of terrorism in recent US history, yet could devote significant space and time to the bad joke of the white woman claiming to be black. There are numerous topics related to this terrorism that could have legal interests, such as the legislation putting the stars and bars flag on the state capitol grounds and how to prevent future acts of racial hatred and terrorism. If a cat can show such courage and guts I think this site could use its example to do the same on an explosive topic that many here have different views on.
What a Cat! The way he ran the dog off, went back to check on the kid and then ran back after the dog again, is phenomenal. We need a National Hero Cat Award as well.
