While China is blocking documentaries on pollution and arresting environmentalists, thousands of Chinese are dying each day due to the suffocating pollution levels in the country. A new study has found that an average of 4,000 people a day in China from air pollution — largely due to coal-burning as a fuel.
Berkeley Earth has also found that tiny particles known as PM2.5 that can trigger heart attacks, strokes, lung cancer and asthma, account for a total of 1.6 million deaths a year, or 17 per cent of China’s mortality level. That figure is staggering. Almost twenty percent of China’s mortality rate is due to air pollution.
We have previously discussed how deaths from air pollution are often treated as abstractions while a fraction of those deaths in some other form like accidents would be viewed as a national emergency. China’s figures however are truly frightening.
Scientific director of Berkeley Earth and a co-author of the paper Richard Muller noted that “[w]hen I was last in Beijing, pollution was at the hazardous level: Every hour of exposure reduced my life expectancy by 20 minutes . . . It’s as if every man, woman and child smoked 1.5 cigarettes each hour.”
Muller and co-author Robert Rohde found that 92 per cent of China’s population experienced at least 120 hours of unhealthy air during the April 5 to Aug 5 study period. For 38 per cent of the population, the average pollution level across the whole four-month period was deemed unhealthy.

Well, keep this in mind when you struggle to find something which is not made in China. Chinese factories and production does not have the regulation we have here. China does not have the corporate tax rate we have here. Chinese products coming here are not taxed like American products going there. This is not ‘free trade’ as we should be taxing their products at the same rate they tax ours! China does not have to accommodate OSHA or wage laws.
Chinese pollution still enters the global atmosphere. As it stands, our politicians have regulated the US to be a very non-competitive zone. So much so that companies are inverting (relocating HQ to a foreign land to avoid our planet’s highest corporate tax rate) and instead of logically making the environment better to do business here, politicians are making it harder to leave!
I posit that A) Politicians do not understand basic economics as it applies to human nature and incentives or B) they are EVIL.
C) It could be both.

Smoking is an interesting point. The Chinese are in the upper stanine[21st] vis a vis smoking. The US has steadily improved, now 51st in per capita consumption. Greece is number one. And, they are a horribly socialist state paying the price of their smoking and other sins. I have to believe the cig smoking in China is entwined in this statistic.
In America how many people who have just died from smoking have that catagory or cause of death put on their death certificate. Some one who has lung cancer and croaks will have heart failure put on the death certificate because that was the last thing to ring up on the death bed. Yet it was cancer of the lung which kills the guy and his smoking gave him cancer and heart disease and emphysema. So the chinese are not so bad about wiggling statistics. This is a communist government. What is good for all the people is more important than the individual. They have a lot of people. They are blasting off onto the modern stage and are truly and industrial state on a scale larger than the U.S. Look at the images on Google of the city of Schenzen or however ya spull it which is located near HongKong. Thirty five years ago it was a poor village with no motor vehicles. Now it is a huge territory of sky scrapers. This happens on the backs of the dead people. Oh, and they all smoke cigarettes so choose your weapon Mister Fung, breath the air and smoke your Camel like John Wayne. Smoke em if ya gottem.
Not even the liberal MSM has “focused” on the mining operation. The EPA INCOMPETENTLY released the poison. They are the responsible party. Most members of the MSM are members of the fundamentalist Church of Global Warming. But, even they get this one. Because, IT’S AN EASY AND OBVIOUS ONE!
Let’s use Canadian “logic.” There’s a traffic accident. A driver, texting her boyfriend, went through a stop sign and collided w/ another car. Both drivers suffered moderate injuries, but they could be fixed. An ambulance driver, INCOMPETENTLY, drives onto the scene @ a high rate of speed while texting his wife he will be late home. The ambulance driver, entrusted w/ saving lives, crashes into the two vehicles, killing one of the drivers and crippling the other. The Canadian will focus on the negligent driver and absolve the entrusted ambulance driver. And curiously, this same Canadian is always talking about holding people in the public sector to a higher duty, and needing additional penalties when betraying the public trust. I guess if you’re a Holy Roller member of the fundamentalist Church of Global Warming you give the clergy a pass.

The EPA Administrator has accepted blame for their HORRIBLE incompetence releasing poisonous arsenic into that Colorado river. It is a blind ideologue who defends the EPA even AFTER the EPA does a mea culpa!! The female EPA Administrator manned up. More manly than Canadian born, USA hating, former hockey players. In the United States in 2010, the rate of firearm deaths was 10 people per 100,000, while for traffic accidents it was 12 per 100,000. Firearm-related deaths totaled 31,672 in 2010.
We nees draconian methods in some cases. It is an idiot that blames the EPA for accidentally releasing the toxic sludge from the mine and not the mine owner for placing it there in the first place. Dealing with tailings, sludge, chemicals, etc costs money for mining companies and they do as little about it as possible. Of course then we get to pay less for our metals, coal, etc but hey that’s the American way, Chinese way, unfettered way.
Praise Obama for going after the polluters. Down with those who believe that pollution is just the smell of success. If crap cost more, there would be less of it.

They have begun recovering from the email hack scandal that should their “scientists” to be anything but that. This is Obama’s last “legacy” goal. And, he is doing it by executive action. JT has been righteous on calling Obama out on his “Uber Presidency.” Indeed, JT has sued the Obama Administration regarding Congress’ control of the purse strings. But, to date, JT has been silent on Obama’s executive action having the EPA put draconian regulations on the coal industry, basically eliminating coal by executive action. Yes, that’s the same EPA that just last week turned a Colorado river bright yellow w/ toxic mine runoff. Come to think of it, that would have been a good post w/ GREAT visuals. JT must have missed it while on vacation??

Lucky for us China got the 2022 Winter Olympic which will be held with artificial snow. Maybe Beijing will clean its air for a couple of weeks again.
