Police Arrest Notorious Islamic State Supporter and Bomb Adviser . . . Only To Discover That He Is A Jewish Guy Living With His Parents In Florida

1441941996245There is a truly bizarre case out of Australia where a 20-year-old has been arrested after posting bomb making instructions and encouraging fellow Islamic State supporters to engage in terrorism. Unfortunately, there is nothing particularly new about that story except that the “Australi Witness” is Joshua Ryne Goldberg, a Jewish man living with his parents in Florida.

Goldberg has been writing about his work with other jihadis and distributed pictures of a bomb with “2 lbs of explosives inside” that closely resembled the bomb used in the Boston Marathon attacks. Working with Australian authorities, Goldberg was arrested in Florida and charged with “distribution of information relating to explosives, destructive devices, and weapons of mass destruction.”

The Justice Department maintains that Goldberg instructed a confidential source how to make a bomb and how to fill it with nails, metal and other items dipped in rat poison. The emails on five web links were part of a plot to explode a bomb on September 13 at a memorial ceremony in Kansas City, commemorating the 9/11 the terrorist attacks.

While he first denied the allegations, police say that he later admitted that he sent the information but insisted that he meant for the person he was communicating with to kill himself creating the bomb. Alternatively, Goldberg was going to turn in the man and be a hero for stopping a terrorist attack.

That will be a difficult defense to maintain unless he took steps or has some record of his intent. Even then, a jury is likely to be skeptical. During his long role as Australi Witness, Goldberg was viewed by many intelligence officials to be a serious and major terrorist suspect.

This is not his only hoax or false identity. Goldberg also established a blog on the Times of Israel in the name of prominent Australian lawyer, Josh Bornstein. He then posted articles that called for the “extermination” of Palestinians.

The charges may raise some free speech issues surrounding the crime of discussing or posting public information. However, the law contains a critical intent element that the information was meant to assist in an actual attack:

(2)Prohibition.—It shall be unlawful for any person—
(A) to teach or demonstrate the making or use of an explosive, a destructive device, or a weapon of mass destruction, or to distribute by any means information pertaining to, in whole or in part, the manufacture or use of an explosive, destructive device, or weapon of mass destruction, with the intent that the teaching, demonstration, or information be used for, or in furtherance of, an activity that constitutes a Federal crime of violence; or
(B) to teach or demonstrate to any person the making or use of an explosive, a destructive device, or a weapon of mass destruction, or to distribute to any person, by any means, information pertaining to, in whole or in part, the manufacture or use of an explosive, destructive device, or weapon of mass destruction, knowing that such person intends to use the teaching, demonstration, or information for, or in furtherance of, an activity that constitutes a Federal crime of violence.

Notably, Goldberg reportedly admits that he wants the bomb to go off and kill the person on the other side or that it would be used in an attempted terrorist attack that he would foil. Both would constitute crimes of violence.

There remains the question of incapacity due to mental illness. However, that standard is much higher than television shows and crime stories would suggest, as discussed in earlier columns. Goldberg’s use of relatively sophisticated means to carry out these communications will seriously undermine any such claim. His defense (or rationalization) also militates against such a defense.

It is a rather demented Walter Mitty tale but the conclusion will not likely be a positive one for Goldberg whose fictional identities are likely to lead to real jail time.

Does America send Jews to GITMO?
    ———————————————
    Nope!

  2. Wow, so much pop conspiracy theory in here totally unrelated to the case and events in hand.
To Isaac and Po, we do not have colonialism. We have never taken over any country, taken anything, did not get oil and have nothing to do with them. If a South African Mom and Pop opened a McDonalds franchise, I bet you would claim this as colonialism. We got nothing out of any of the middle east. China and Russia have the contracts for rare earth minerals and oil, not us.
Our dealings are strictly with OPEC contracts and shipping on open market.

Equally, if the World Bank hires a US water engineering company to set up drinking water to save lives in some destitute country, you would be cheering. But then, when the country dictator takes it over, kills the engineers and refuses to pay for it… you call it colonialism. Same goes for oil companies. Or software companies.
Po, since you are too young to know this, Clinton and the Dims signed the Iraq Liberation Act in 1998 for the stated purpose of removing Sadam because of WMDs…. before Bush. Bush AND congress signed the wars act in 2002-3 because Sadam had failed UN requests 16 times. If you read the actuyoual document, instead of Salon or HUffpo, WMDs are mentioned only in passing and not as the purpose.
    .
As far as Israel having a hand in anything, it is only when you decide what has happened is bad publicity so best to blame them…. such as ISIS, Mumbai, Myramar, Congo, refugees, red lines etc. Thus, any solutions are not viable, because they are based on the very wrong premises.
    .
Oddly enough, the people who now are shouting imminent death and demand everyone cowtow to a deal that no one has read are the same people who laughed at Netanyahu and his bomb picture. You know, the same people that claimed Iran was not building a bomb and that Netayahu was hysterical are claiming we must do something right here, right now or else its war.

    1. Aptly named, empire, but history is everyone’s history, though you are entitled to deriving wrong conclusions from them, you are certainly not entitled to rewriting it.
You offer 4 ideas in 4 paragraphs, supported by 4 false narratives to make your point.

1- American colonialism and support for dictatorships…
I’ll let wiki speak for me:
Over the last century, the United States government has often provided, and continues to provide today, financial assistance, education, arms, military training and technical support to numerous authoritarian regimes across the world. A variety of reasons have been provided to justify the apparent contradictions between support for dictators and the democratic ideals expressed in the United States Constitution.[1]

Prior to the Russian Revolution, support for dictators was often based on furthering American economic and political priorities, such as opening foreign markets to American manufacturers. Following the rise of communism, the United States government also began to support authoritarian regimes that it felt were combating movements aligned with communism, including socialist and democratic socialist movements, especially in Latin America.[2][3] Such assistance continued despite the belief expressed by many that this contradicted the political ideals espoused by the US during the Cold War.[4] Support was also geared toward ensuring a conducive environment for American corporate interests abroad, such as the United Fruit Company or Standard Oil, especially when these interests came under threat from democratic governments.[1][4][5] Support for authoritarian regimes has been justified under various ideological frameworks as well, including the Truman Doctrine, the Kirkpatrick Doctrine and the “War on Drugs”.[1]

From the 1980s onwards, the United States government began to fear that its interests would be threatened by the increasingly popular Islamist movements in the Middle East, and began to work to secure cooperative authoritarian regimes in the region, while isolating and weakening, but not always removing, uncooperative ones.[6]
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_authoritarian_regimes_supported_by_the_United_States

      2- Iraq
It would suffice us to quote Bush and co:
      ——————
In a widely-reported study of orchestrated deception, the Center found that President Bush and seven top officials made 935 false statements leading up to the Iraq war — and offer them in a database for all to see.

Search 380,000 words of every public pronouncement by top Bush administration officials on the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and on the links between Iraq and Al Qaeda.

Leading the pack, President Bush made 232 false statements about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and 28 false statements about Iraq’s connections with Al Qaeda. Secretary of State Colin Powell followed close behind with 244 false statements about weapons of mass destruction and 10 about Al Qaeda links.
      http://www.publicintegrity.org/2014/06/24/14969/search-935-iraq-war-false-statements

      3- Israel
Look up any repressive government, any massacre of peasants and citizens in all of central and south America for last 60 years, any dictatorship and repressive government in Middle east and south Asia, south east asia, the Pacific, the apartheid regime in Rhodesia and south Africa, and you see a repressive government, a dictatorship, a massacre that was/is enabled by Israel, either through setting up a surveillance system that undermined any attempt for non-violent democratic change, or through the providing of armament to be used against the population.
Israel is one of the leaders of weapon production and repressive training worldwide, and guess who are some of their eager clients…yes, american police forces who use their newly acquired training in places such as Ferguson.
Unlike the US, which at least has some (very little )standards about whom to sell to, Israel sells to capitalist, democratic, autocratic, communist, social democrat, monarchies, and to both sides of a conflict, without any care for any moral perspective regarding the legitimacy of any struggle.

      4- Iran deal
The only people who are against the Iran deal are the same ones who supported Netanyanhu’s shameful and cartoonish display at the UN.
The ones who laughed at him then are the ones who support the Iran deal…that is any rational mind that remembers Netanyanhu promising an Iranian bomb and the destruction of Israel exactly 30 years ago.
It is fascinating to me that a great many knowledgeable people across the spectrum of rationality, army people, scientists, diplomats, pols…even Israel’s own security outfits think that the iran nuclear deal is a good deal. And yet, and yet… somehow Netanyanhu and some two bit senators paid by Aipac and Sheldon Andelson to block the deal should be listened to?

I think you and I are on the same page here. The perfect example of colonialism and economics is at one extreme the British slaughtering thousands of Chinese for the right to import opium to their addicts. If there ever was a more despicable iteration of colonialism, bigotry, racism, slavery, etc it is this. Another example of British economic colonialism was that they imported cotton from India to Great Britain to make garments and support the local industries and then forced the Indians to buy their products. They did this with salt, and other basic materials.

When Ghandi visited Great Britain and explained this to the textile unions even they were disgusted with their own government and sided with India. This was the beginning of the end of the disgusting colonial conditions between Great Britain and India. The only losers were the extremely rich. India has profited since and Great Britain has profited since. The losers were the oligarchs but not completely, they still pull strings.

Something to reflect upon in this America that has never been colonialist, never been other than the world’s greatest democracy, never allowed special interests to control, etc. You get my drift. We should be ashamed when we stand up and allow tears to fall.

    1. Well said, Isaac!

Bambam, lest you are unsure about that concept, not all Arabs are muslim and not all muslims are arab. And, similarly, Judaism isn’t zionism and Israel is not judaism.
We can criticize Israel as the bad actor it is (just as we criticize Saudi Arabia as the bad actor it is, and we relentlessly demonize Iran) WHILE not being antisemitic. No one attacked Jews here, we only mentioned Israel, which is known to have a hand in anything that happens in the Middle East and beyond.

it is obvious to anyone with any sense of fairness and of history that one of the main propagators of the current wave of islamophobia is Israel. And on 9/11 no less, let us remember that the info that Bush used to falsely accuse Iraq of terrorism/weapons of mass destruction/link to Al qaeda came from Israel.
Additionally, this country is about to come apart at the seams, spurred no less by Netanyanhu’s relentless work to undermine the Iran nuclear deal no matter the costs to Americans, and this is supported and financed by the same network that finances Pam geller and her ilk.

  4. I love how a misfit, who is mentally disturbed and obviously a criminal, brings out the antisemitic trolls who are ready to vilify all Jews and Israel by linking this loon to some vast conspiracy. Great thread.

  5. J Jones

It is still a matter of colonialism. The only things that have changed are the weapons and tactics. The US took over from Great Britain and France after WW2. It took over from Great Britain in the Middle East and from France in Indo China. Any other explanation is nothing more than the ‘Us or them’, ‘domino’, ‘red/yellow hordes’, etc propaganda. The rest of the world is either antagonistic as a result of the hypocrisy of colonialism and/or simply trying to be whomever they are. The cause of the turmoil in the Middle East and Africa is a DIRECT result of colonialism. Left to their own devices there would never be an Israel but there would never have been a threat of Zionism and perhaps the Jew would be as they have been for centuries, a religious part of multicultural nations. The threat of Zionist power inside of nations is what created the reaction, which created the wars, which created Israel. Israel is the most advanced and most powerful air craft carrier for today’s major Western Colonial power, the US.

    1. Isaac, I think it is surely a matter of colonialism, but less about colonialism and more about the extension of colonialism.Official colonialism ended for it must, but the profits from colonialism, the structure of colonialism, the pulling strings, the undermining economies to keep them dependent, the undermining security to keep armies and presidents subservient…all of those are still functioning and ensuring the milking keeps going.
The milking and the colonialism it less overt than before, where states used companies as proxies, nowadays, corporations are the colonizing force, using western government as proxies.

  6. Couldn’t have said it better, Joseph Jones!
To add to that, I always wondered how timely it was that whenever Israeli leaders needed to look strong, there comes a Hamas missile, as if sent to order.

There a worldwide business, highly profitable business that relies on islamophobia and its corollaries. Not only does it employ media people, it also employs the military, our political leaders and anyone else relying on fear to sell, buy, own and generally profit, which a great many people.

  7. “The more terror, the more fear, the more malleable are US sheep.”

Joseph Jones, I hope we hear more from you. To be precise:

    You got it.

  8. The more we mop in the middle east the more we spread itShay around. Single turds here and thee would be better. It is now a mass of itShay. Those who live West of Corfu are too dumb to meddle in land East of Corfu. And East of Corfu the Ten Commandments Don’t Apply. They hardly do here. Particularly with Hillary the 8th.

  9. On a slightly different note, remember 9/11 and President Bush at the elementary school? Knowledge is power.

  10. “Living at home with his parents” says it all. We are seeing so many of these young adult males who have a natural emotional need to feel independent, grown-up and significant, yet they have been babied and coddled to the point that they are dysfunctional in society, so they hole up in mama’s basement and plan a mass shooting or terrorist attack in order to gain that feeling of importance. I’m sure that he was labelled ADHD or some such B.S. because he preferred to play video games rather than do his homework, so mama needed an excuse to explain why her little genius wasn’t doing well in school, and papa didn’t have the spine to discipline his son, nor insist that at 18, it’s time for a job, college or the Army.

  11. And why would a so-called “Jew” do such a thing? If you have not already, read The Prince by Machiavelli. I hope by now it is becoming more clear to the populace that TPTB manufactured this entire so-called “War On Terror” for their own purposes.

Even the military admitted it helped create ISIS (do your own search for articles at http://www.ZeroHedge.com). Please don’t think it’s a coincidence that most of ISIS’ weapons were sourced by the USA. The entire existence of ISIS lays directly at the door of George Bush for eliminating Saddam Hussein. Do you think it’s a coincidence that every single world leader the US removed from office is replaced by something or someone infinitely worse? Look at Libya, Iraq, Iran, etc. In the 50s Iran had a moderate government that would not deal with American business interests, the USA sourced a coup and installed the Shaw friendly to US business interests, which caused the revolution, which resulted in the current government more radical than the original).

Africa’s population doubles in short order. Africa is a financial gold mine. Ghadafi made it his goal to unify all Africa under one currency, which threatened US financial hegemony, which caused Hilary to organize Ghadafi’s murder, which resulted in millions of refugees fleeing the current hell hole.

There is video of then-Sec. of State Hilary preparing for an interview, getting make up. She did not know the camera was on. An aid shows Hilary video of Ghadafi’s murder (the US-sponsored “rebels” anally raped him) immediately after it happened. Hilary laughs and replies: “We came, we saw, he died, ha, ha, ha…” I kid you not. Infinitely stranger than fiction.

Certainly not one independent person with intelligence above shoe size believes the world (or Iraq) is better off now since we murdered Saddam? Are you so dumb to think it a coincidence that Bush’s so-called “axis of evil” (N. Korea, Iraq, Iran, all three completely unrelated to 9/11) all loath central banks and central bank love affair with the mantra that “debt equals wealth?”

The bottom line, as always is money. What has been the effect on the middle class since the War On Terror started? In ruins, with income adjusted for inflation equal to the late 70s. And how’s the ruler class done, the top 1%? All growth in wealth centered there.

    Yeah, just a coincidence.

Do not be surprised if this so-called Jew’s computer and other expenses were paid for by Israel or the CIA. The more terror, the more fear, the more malleable are US sheep.

  12. After reading the provision of the statute in the article above I realize that there are thousands of books, articles, magazines, and instruction manuals out there in America that are illegal and the authors are criminals. Call the men in the White Suits.

  13. This is DISGUSTING!!!

I hope he gets 20 years HARD time in a supermax. and gets to put his hair in pretty little pigtails for his boyfriend, BUBBA.

I bet he won’t be laughing when the US Gov. gets done with his ars.

  14. After reading this the mug doesn’t get any rights. He is a danger to society and whether he is nuts or simply criminal, hard to tell the difference sometimes, he should be dealt with by the society. Put him in jail. Fix his brain. But, there is no issue of free speech here.

  15. 20 year old Joshua wasn’t joshing with his tweets:

The report from the U.S. Attorney’s Office shows Goldberg used the Twitter handle AusWitness. An exchange between AusWitness and a confidential source was made public:

“Have you decided what kind of attack to carry out on 9/11, akhi?” AusWitness tweeted.
“I was thinking a bombing,” the confidential source replied.
“We could make pipe bombs and detonate them at a large public event,” read the tweet AusWitness posted that officials believe was the plan for an event in Kansas City, Missouri.
They then talk about how to make a pressure cooker bomb.
“Don’t buy all the materials at once or the kuffar will know you’re up to something. Buy them at different stores,” AusWitness tweeted

    Communication:

A criminal threat involves one person threatening someone else with physical harm. The threat must be communicated in some way, though it doesn’t necessarily have to be verbal.
A person can make a threat through email, text message, or even through non-verbal body language such as gestures or movements. However, some states require written or verbal threats,
and in those states gestures are not enough.

    Fear and Intent:

Criminal threats are made with the intention to place someone in fear of injury or death. However, it isn’t necessary for a victim to actually experience fear or terror.
Rather, it’s the intention of the person making the threat that matters. The intent of a person who makes threats is usually determined by the circumstances surrounding the case.

    Specificity and Reasonableness:

You cannot commit a criminal threat if the threat is vague or unreasonable. The threat must be capable of making the people who hear it feel as if they might be hurt,
and conclude that the threat is credible, real, and imminent. If, for example, you threaten to blow up the world unless your bartender doesn’t bring your drink to you in time,
no reasonable person hearing it would believe the threat was real. On the other hand, if you walk into a store with a gun and threaten to shoot the clerk unless she gives you a refund,
such a threat is credible and specific.
