The lawyer for Kentucky clerk Kim Davis has stated that she met with Pope Francis during the pontiff’s visit to Washington D.C. last week and received encouragement from him in the meeting. It is a surprising disclosure, if true, but Attorney Mat Staver of the Liberty Counsel insists that the Pope spoke to Davis and her husband in English and said “Thank you for your courage” and told her to “stay strong.”
The Vatican is mum on the alleged meeting or who was present on September 24 at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington. That was the same day that he had spoken to Congress.
That adds an interesting political wrinkle for Democrats who generally love (as do I) this Pope for his views on climate change, poverty, and other issues. The Pope however also spoke against abortion and does not support same-sex marriage. If he also supports Davis, it can create some difficult issues with the party line on the Clerk. After all, as we discussed today, you have one Democrat who reveres the Pope so much that he is actually dispensing the Pope’s drinking water to family from the glass used during his speech before Congress.
Of course, there is no reason why either Republicans and Democrats cannot still oppose the position of Davis even if (and that is still an “if”) the Pope supports her position. After all, many support the right to choose even when they are personally against abortion and remain practicing Catholics. Yet, it is intriguing that this is one of the people that the Pope would choose to meet if the account is correct.
I am surprised if the Vatican agreed to this meeting. Even the people on rope lines are often screened for the Pope though he is known to plunge into crowds. If this was a truly arranged “meeting,” it is pretty significant that Davis would be selected for such a meeting and encouragement. Politicians like Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz have been criticized for their support of Davis, who asserts the right to impose her religious views of the legitimacy of a marriage before performing her purely ministerial functions. Reporters have been trying to get the Vatican to confirm whether the Pope has added his voice of support.
Of course, the Vatican could spin the meeting as support for someone following her faith rather than endorsing her legal position. Nevertheless, the alleged meeting may be the most surprising in this even-filled Papal visit.
In the Kim Davis case the Judge was wrong to lock her up. He only needed to lock her out of her office.
But this same sex marriage thing is gotten out of hand. Why does anyone feel the need to get married. If it was not for property rights such as joint participation in a pension or social security benefits there would be little desire for marriage. Priests like marriage because it makes them holier than thou.

All this Jesus apCray this week was getting old. I am glad the Pope is gone back to Europe where he belongs. And where is Biden? BitchinDog predicted that he would use the Pope visit as grounds for deciding to run for President. Maybe he will step off stage. At this stage of his life maybe he should just ride off into the sunset. Dont ask me I dont give a damn, next stop is Afghanistan. And its five, six , seven, open up the Pearly Gates. In the short run Kim will get fatter.
This American tour was to promote Vatican-Aid: no membership means no income to the Vatican. Its CEO longs for ecclesiastical law to reign supreme, and. although he presents as very compassionate, Francis like his predecessors has so far offered very little resistance to social injustice.
The Pope missed his greatest opportunity. To meet with Hollywood producers. And pray for reruns of “The Flying Nun”.

I admire conscientious objectors particularly those who refuse to serve in the military. Even though I support gay marriage, I also admire Kim Davis for following her conscience.
When Pope John Paul died, both liberal and conservatives fell all over themselves praising him. As we know, John Paul and this Pope are polar opposites when it comes to Communism. John Paul lived under oppressive Communist dictators. It’s been my experience, people tend to see what they like in a Pope and not see what they don’t. Then there are the haters of religion.
According to the barrister for Davis, there was a photographer @ the 15 minute meeting in the Vatican Embassy and he will be providing photographic evidence.
Pope Al Gore is in Paris spreading the his fundamentalist Church gospel in Paris. I bet he has them rolling in the aisles. He’s a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

What do you expect? The guy is a god in his own world wide kingdom where pedophiles get moved out of harms way, women are second class citizens, man made laws are imported from outer space, the best he can come up with is “Let’s all just get along.”, and in the end he is nothing more than a political pawn that will get votes for whoever kisses his ring the longest.
The founding fathers took a position. Why don’t we stand with them and ensure freedom from religion, separation of church and state, jail or out the door for Kim Davis. The US appears, in this affair, no different than one of the third world situations where you can’t do this or a fringe group of nut cases will cause trouble or you can’t do that because another fringe group will cause trouble. The laws of the US state emphatically that no fringe group shall impose their will on the populace.

It’s the Papal Perogative. He is still human and is fallible. Good thing he’s not an American County Cletk. His views on climate change and capitalism make sense and earn my respect. I’ll pray for him, as he requests.
I wonder if the Pope asked Kim to pray for hundreds of Muslim pilgrims killed during Hijj in Mecca? He asked the folks at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC to do so.

The Pope spoke out about religious freedom. He also spoke about how both the secular and civil definitions of marriage have been co-equal for centuries, that has changed. Unlike JT, I am not adamant. I really don’t care much about gay marriage except for how it forces people to go against their religion. Again, I think Davis should have resigned. But, as I said @ the time, the judge locking her up was a big mistake. So, I am not surprised the Pope would meet w/ Davis.
On the Church of Environmentalism. I did not hear the anti-oil rants from the Pope we all hear from the holy rollers. I heard what I have said I was taught by a wise environmental professor. I heard the Pope preach against consumerism, which is wasteful to the soul and to the earth. I heard him talk about keeping the earth and oceans clean. In Philly, the Pope spoke of the critical need for biodiversity. ALL THINGS I SUPPORT. But the Church of Environmentalism Pope, Al Gore, has you lemmings all in on anti-oil. I never hear any of the other aspects from you evangelicals. The fact that smart people can’t see this is about control and money is disturbing.

The pope can think whatever he wants. So what. The US has laws enforced by persons who take oaths to uphold those laws. If the pope agrees with Davis, they’re both misinformed. Next.
And the fact that he accepts the science of climate change doesn’t earn him legitimacy. Does he accept biology? Geology? Or is he inconsistent in the way all his believers are, picking and choosing to satisfy what one already believes, as if the pope wasn’t an authority in their cult. Catholics like birth control, so dismiss what the pope says. Others disagree on climate change, so dismiss it. Yet they both use the pope to back up points on which they agree?! Worthless.
