Michael Santiago, 25, is under arrest for felony child endangerment after his 6-year-old son accidentally shot and killed his 3-year-old brother. Santiago kept the .32-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver fully loaded on top of the refrigerator.
The boys were reportedly playing “cops and robbers” when the gun went off. Their grandfather was watching them but was upstairs at the time. Santiago is a former gang member who said that he had the gun (purchased illegally off the street) to protect himself after testifying against a fellow gang member. Santiago, a manager at a Papa Ray’s Pizza restaurant, is being held on $75,000 bond.
Santiago appears to have been working hard after leaving the gang — putting in six days a week at the pizza restaurant.
The combination of the illegal purchase and the endangerment allegation could result in serious time for Santiago. The question is whether a court should consider the loss of the child in reducing the sentence. Santiago is described as a loving father who did a terribly stupid and reckless thing. Given the loss of the child, do you think that serious jail time is warranted?

We can do a trigger lock that will suit you.
No. You can’t. The operative word is “lock”.
No need to worry about the idiots that are incapable of remembering to turn off the stove,
I don’t worry about them, unless they are living in my house. Stupid is as stupid does.
“We did Common Core, we did Obamacare, we did Benghazi.”
Are you serious? Really? I mean ….are you serious that you cite the three largest failures and the most unpopular acts in recent times as some sort of success. Did someone seriously cite these fiascoes as some sort of credible bona fides?
KC
You need to concentrate on setting up the pelvic appointment schedules. If you’ve completed those, contact Trey Gowdy. He can probably can use your help.
I think gun manufacturers can manufacture guns that come with a trigger lock built in; a trigger lock that you will like. No need to worry about the idiots that are incapable of remembering to turn off the stove, let alone put the loaded gun in a gun safe.
The guy was stupid.
He left a loaded gun out with the safety off.
Does your trigger lock fix stupid? Does it fix criminality?
Why not?
“We did Common Core, we did Obamacare, we did Benghazi.”
Yeah, I’m all a flutter with your wonderful inventions.
I’m tackling ONE problem; kids that get hold of guns that negligent adults leave around and shoot other kids. ONE problem. I’m not dealing with the mentally ill that get guns. Please stay on this ONE issue. I think it is solvable,
We did Hubble. We did Mars. We’re looking at Pluto. We’re doing driverless cars. You carry a powerful computer in your pocket. We can do a trigger lock that will suit you.

My little sister just started a serious relationship. Let me know when we should begin pelvic examinations. She says she’ll be good, but you know how untrustworthy little girls can be.
Wrong again. I said develop a trigger lock so little kids can’t pick up a gun that has been left around by a negligent adult and kill another kid.
That only works if people use them and not even on loaded guns. If people are so stupid as to leave loaded weapons with the safety off laying around what assurance is there that they will use a trigger lock.
You people have YET to come up with ONE idea that would actually work because most if not all of your examples are of idiots who have not used common sense gun safety OR are criminals who don’t obey the laws in any case.
Gun laws that prevent mentally ill or violent criminals from obtaining guns are not even effective either, because….gasp…..wrap you pretty little brain around this….criminals do not obey laws.
I will not use a trigger lock. It renders the gun useless in an emergency. While traveling sure. In the gun safe, why not. It is extra safety. Other than that…..you all can go pound sand.
The free rider problem highlights how non-participants benefit from their neighbors owning weapons, above a certain threshold, as thieves are deterred by the risk of encountering an armed householder.
Being “saved”, in contrast, suggests a different scenario.
Ferguson, for example.
In that case, you’re on your own.
KCF, No one can beat liberals when it comes to condescension. They are the best.
but….but….I was told upthread that we shirkers were being saved by the gun slingers.
“And these guys say they’re going to save us all.”
Sorry; you’re on your own.

@Nick
Aside from their relentless moral superiority posing, I’ve yet to see a proposal for what they would do in re: gun control here.
Olly
Let me know how often you need to check my fallopian tubes to make sure I’m not interferring with your right to my body.
KCF, It truly does seem like a race to the bottom of the rational pool w/ this particular group of 2nd Amendment haters today. Maybe it’s like golf, lowest score wins.
“Blood of our Toddlers”. Nice ring to it. I think plays.
Refreshed? The old Liberty tree was drowned along time ago by the blood of aborted children.
Liberty? Did you not get the memo? All Liberty has been removed. No more Liberty left. Obama stole it.
Perhaps this idea would save a few children; but then again it makes the whole “depend on law enforcement” argument somewhat untenable.
