We finally have a face to go with the name of a murderer who would abandon her own baby and slaughter people, including some who had thrown her baby shower. It now appears that San Bernardino shooter Tashfeen Malik pledged allegiance to ISIS and left her baby in pursuit of paradise in return for her massacre of her husband’s co-workers. Malik and her husband, Syed Rizwan Farook, not only left their baby and family to face the aftermath of their despicable crime but killed people who had supported them both at and outside of work.
As we noted earlier today, it appear that Malik may have played a critical role in radicalizing her husband. She was born in Pakistan but moved to Saudi Arabia 25 years ago at the age of four. She traveled back and forth between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia — two hotbeds of Islamic extremism. She went to college in Pakistan at Bahuddin Zakri University in Multan where she was known as a top student.
What is clear is that she and her husband Farook embraced extreme Islamic views and turned their house into an IED workshop. Malik came to the U.S. on what a “fiancé” visa, which allows an American fiancé to petition for his or her partner’s temporary entry before marriage. She then joined her husband later in a bloodbath at his workplace. There appears to be few pictures of Malik. What is clear is that her daughter will eventually be told of how her parents chose their pursuit of paradise over her well-being.
The question now is what to do with the child. Police say that the apartment was full of weapons and pipe bombs while his mother lived there with their baby. It is hard to conclude that the grandmother is an appropriate custodian until we can determine her level of knowledge not only of the specific attack but the general planning for violent jihad.

Besides look at you all….she, they left a baby. She left a baby behind. The next day…ash carter leaves open that because now all mos are open to women….they might have to do selective service and be subject to draft. So it is bad she left her kid motherless? But it will be okay if we as a society draft women and leave our kid ‘s motherless? Look at the dod numbers….women dont serve per porportion…..because they have a special niche…..i dunno ….about being moms. Thats why we leave the service to be nation builders too as moms. In fact a tree star jag briefed a college a few years ago (oncspan) how the whole women equality was a sham so women can be drafted. This mom left her kid behind voluntarily…..most and i say most…our dod moms leave the service…..but those who dont are just like her ….they make a plan to hand off their kid to a relative if tge might die.,.form 356 if i recall. But most moms pack it up. Its a shame the next day ash carter comes along with a backdoor mom’s draft subterfuge.
Nick – what do you think the chances are the child is placed with Farook’s sister? I dearly hope the innocent child is spared the influence of anyone in that family, but I don’t know what the legal grounds for separation from relatives would be. Although initial reports indicate the radicalization may have begun with Tashfeen, any family that would hire that crazed lawyer denying all responsibility for the terrorist attack raises serious concerns about radicalization. Which may not be a legal barrier to getting their own infant relative into their care. I wish it was, if only to prevent brainwashing.
It’s hard to understand how a woman could be granted a visa to come here and marry, have a child, and then when that sweet baby is only 6 months old, leave her behind to go slaughter her husband’s coworkers who had only recently thrown her a baby shower. I just can’t wrap my mind around parents who would just abandon their child like that, or homicidal maniacs who think their God will be pleased if they go shoot up a party.
I agree that the grandmother is unsuitable as a custodian. She was right there while they were making bombs. I cannot imagine what the neighbors must have thought, living next to a couple of terrorists making bombs.
I feel so very sorry for that child. I hope that whoever raises her does so with love, and none of the hatred that so clearly infected this couple.
It is surprisingly common for people to express discomfort with criticism against extremist Islam, including in the media. If it’s OK to criticize the Catholic Church for the entrenched pedophilia scandal, then it is OK to criticize extremist Islam. Modern, moderate Muslims are just normal people living like anyone else. They could be considered reformers. Just as obviously, extremist Islam is a problem. Violence in its name has become a very effective tool of terrorists. And even outside of terrorist organizations, human rights are trampled under extremist regimes like Saudi Arabia, where gays are executed and women are flogged in its name.
It’s like people say you shouldn’t criticize Yearning For Zion polygamist pedophiles who throw out their boys because it might upset Mormons, who don’t live like that at all.

I’m not sure of the status of the infant, but I assume the baby is an American citizen.
Normslly, custody would probably go to the closest surviving relative.
In this case, far from normal in many respects, CA child protective services will need to look very closely at who gets custody.
And there could be a protracted custody battle in the courts, similar in some respects to the Elian Gonzalez case.
Tragic way to begin life…..I just hope the infant is placed in the best possible environment, considering the circumstances.
