Video: Baltimore Police Officer Slaps and Kicks 16-Year-Old Student

Screen Shot 2016-03-03 at 7.15.56 PM The videotape below has shocked many people both inside and outside of Baltimore. A Baltimore school police officer is shown slapping and kicking a teenage youth while a second officer watches. The video raises the suitability of either officer to serve in the department as well as the question of potential criminal charges of assault.

The two officers responded to REACH Partnership School after a report of two “intruders.” The officers say that they determined that the two were not students by consulting with school administrators, who could not identify them. However, the parents of the child being beaten says that he is in fact a student at the school. The parents went to the school to speak with the Principal James Gresham but was told that he was busy despite waiting to see him.

Here is the videotape:

I cannot imagine the defense that could be raised by either of these officers. The teenager is not threatening the officer or resisting at the time of the assault. That would seem an easy matter for termination and possible criminal charges.

The other officer does nothing. The key for that second officer is to confirm whether she immediately informed her supervisors or sought aid for the student. She should still have intervened but the failure to act after the assault should be enough to terminate her employment.

What do you think?

  1. KCFleming makes a good point when he mocks the term “parents” associated with youth like the subject.

In many cases, for youth like the subject, the “parents” = the State. The State supplies housing, food, financial aid, birth control, health care, virtually everything this youth and his caretakers require. Also, “parents” in this context often mean single mother.

The incarceration rate for these youth’s fathers is astronomically high. (One would expect black voters to hate Barack for this fact and the insanely high unemployment rate for blacks. I can only imagine they vote Democrat because they perceive the Dems hand hand out more “freebies” than Reps. IOW, they love the Democratic plantation.)

It’s almost impossible to hold the actual parents responsible for their children’s behavior, because the taxpayers took over the parent’s roles.

Johnson’s continuing “War Against Poverty” is the worst thing to happen to blacks since the slave trade.

  2. There are good, professional and mature police officers out there, but there seems to also be police officers that were probably school yard bullies during grade school.

These immature bullies are naturally drawn to authoritarian type occupations, where they can bully into adulthood.

Seems like police departments should try to hire more mature and non-sadistic officers instead of hiring the sadistic bully personality types. Seems like a pretty easy thing to spot since it was probably a childhood trait.

  3. JT’s post did not even need to have pictures or video to know the officers were not white or at least the officers were of the same color as the student involved. This should be how these stories are reported and you can see by the responses here that we’ve become conditioned to inject some sort of racial element. We’ve also become somewhat skeptical of video evidence that does not tell the whole story. I think that is a good thing. Eliminate the race element, get the complete story and then we are prepared to draw reasonable conclusions.

  4. All black jury, you don’t get a dime. This kid said something to the officer that set him off. The kick at the end is telling.

If you really want to confuse, make it a black cop and a white teenager, in a bathing suit, have the cop pull his gun.

  6. This is not going anywhere. Black on black, nobody cares about this.

You want results? Make sure it’s a white cop.

  7. Police officers absolutely must be able to function without allowing themselves to lose control due to verbal assaults from the public. The moment of physical interaction is when the officer is threatened, hopefully before he or she is attacked. In this case viewing the difference in body sizes, at least two to one advantage for the officer, and submissive posture of the youth, it would appear that the police officer attacked the youth because he got his feathers ruffled. In other words, he is not fit to be a police officer. That is the bottom line.

The kid probably got what he deserved but it cannot come from the police. The kid looks to be none the worse for wear. However, for the sake of deterrence criminal charges and/or civil charges should be brought against the department, a penalty in the form of a payout to the parents should not be in the equation-there are too many parent/kid attempts at baiting teachers for legal payouts. The officer should be charged with assault. The department should be fined. An investigation should be launched if there were other instances such as this.

On the other hand if all of the above were to be enforced and accomplished, these mouthy kids would surely become more empowered and that could be even worse than allowing a police officer to smack a kid around from time to time. It’s that old problem of where the letter of the law, sacred texts, and other ideals meet reality. Sometimes the law has to be bent to avoid losing it.

In a perfect world, with a composed police officer, the kid should have been taken into custody, his parents obliged to pick him up at the police station, and a recorded warning issued, unless of course there is some legal mumbo jumbo against doing that.

  8. I suspect “mouthing off” was the kid’s offense.
The video is helpfully edited to show only the end of the encounter, likely for good reason.

If young Mr. Dindu Nuthin is a student there, why wasn’t he in class?

If young Mr. Dindu Nuthin is a student there, why would school administrators call the police about 2 intruders, tell the cops the 2 Nuthin boys were not students and they could not identify them?

Decision withheld pending more information, none of which will tend to glorify Mr. Nuthin’s school or criminal history.

  9. BLM.
    BaseLineMutard.
A “Mutard” is like a retard. But a french version. Nothing to do with BlackLivesMatter. The cops will say that they don’t.

  10. Al Sharpton won’t touch this. Black male and female cop discipline black teenager.
A couple years in the Marine corps might help. But even Marines reject these bad apples.

  11. The cops had a premonition the teenagers might grow up, buy a gun in a few years, hunt down the cops, and assassinate them. Does this not prove the case for self-defense? Only a criminal type cop hating anarchist would not see it that way.

  12. A black officer assaults a black student. The result? No uproar. Had it been a white officer, however, assaulting a black student, in exactly and precisely the same manner, the town would’ve, undoubtedly, been burned to the ground and looted, with protesters jamming the streets and demading the white officer’s scalp. Black on black violence–Sharpton and Jackson aren’t getting on a plane to visit the town for this one. Can’t make money when there’s no opportunity for race hustling.

  13. Chinggis say Baltimore and Texas should pass Anti-Slapp law! That way no more young whipperslappers. Need oil so squeek not so bothersome.Lots of oil in Texas and Oklahoma, where panhandlers live. After go to Texas for oil to fix squeek, jump out of panhandle into the Friar.

  14. Not enough video to base a opinion. From what there was it looks bad, very bad…but was the cop the one to start a assault, or could the kid have been the first one? (Looks like the cop started, but ya never know)

As for the parents if the principal was “busy” I would have made a appointment when he was “free”, and then I’d chew him out for that too…LoL.

  15. Oh, and as far a valid defense, how about the Texas Defense, “The little punk needed slapping!” Because I bet that is what you’ll see when the facts come out.

  16. Great! They need to slap the crap out of more of these punks! That’s the positive male role model everybody is clamoring for! Because I am going to bet the cop had a darn good reason for what he did.

  17. The other cop’s failure to act during the assault makes her an accessory to assault in the second degree. Both need to be charged with crimes and fired. If the boss has not moved to discipline them then he needs to be fired. If the boss is a she then she needs to be fired. The town or municipality can be sued. Superior officers can be sued.
