Yesterday, the Justice Department reversed itself and released a full, unredacted transcript of the 911 call of Omar Mateen during his massacre in Orlando. The Justice Department redacted references despite objections from media and political leaders that the redactions were ridiculous. Nevertheless, Attorney General Loretta Lynch went on the Sunday shows and insisted that it was best for the public and the victims. It was a telling moment of how the government now begins with an assumption that it is better to limit what the public reads and knows. What was removed was references to “Islamic State” and ISIS leader “Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.” How exactly do those references, according to Lynch, “revictimize” people? It was well known and widely reported that Mateen had referenced both ISIS and al-Baghdadi. Yet, the impulse of the Justice Department was to censor and control information that was already public.
Matinee says “I pledge allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi may God protect him [in Arabic], on behalf of the Islamic State.” In the earlier official version it read: “I pledge allegiance to [omitted] may God protect him [in Arabic], on behalf of [omitted].”
Now the Justice Department insists that it was the fault of the public in making a big deal over the omissions: “Unfortunately, the unreleased portions of the transcript that named the terrorist organizations and leaders have caused an unnecessary distraction from the hard work that the FBI and our law enforcement partners have been doing to investigate this heinous crime.”
An “unnecessary distraction”? Of course, it is always a bit distracting when the government by reflex withholds information from the public and then tells the public it is really for its own good.

Obama assumes we will hear it like he did when they read it to him:

We should be looking forward, not backward. No one should be held accountable. We are taking action to see that this never happens again. More surveillance, fewer civil liberties are the answer.

My understanding is that the transcript is still edited in connotation whereas before it was clearly denotation that was redacted. Specifically, I have read that he never swears allegiance to “god” but to allah.
I am an atheist, but Jehovah is NOT Allah. It appears to be a way to, once again, deflect from the fact that, at this moment in history, Allah is demanding a lot more killing and bloodshed than Jehovah; however, it behooves many in those in power today to subconsciously link this Islamic murderer and lover of Allah with the religious right of America, of whom the left hates more than anything else right now.
Suppose that Chinese-Americans blew up U.S. embassies, made 2 attempts to knock down the World Trade Centers (succeeded in 2001), killed Americans in mass shootings, were foiled in about 100 other plots, etc.
Would you bend over backward to make excuses for these acts, or would it be reasonable to think that maybe one could conclude that there’s a problem with Chinese terrorism?
A few generations ago, I suppose people like Mr. Jones would advise Americans to take the blame for Pearl Harbor.

Suppose China’s military occupied DC (exactly like the US military occupies Mecca in Saudi Arabia). Suppose two Americans married in China, and their son, a Chinese American, killed 49 Chinese.
Would you root for the murderer? Would you want to kill any and every single Chinese national on the face of the earth?
