Pennsylvania Church Harassed After Wishing Muslims A Blessed Ramadan

636017790693237889-YDR-sub-061716-ramadan-signIn a true sign of our times, a Pennsylvania church and its pastor in Dallastown have been harassed after a message was added to the church sign wishing neighboring Muslims a “blessed Ramadan.” Trump supporter Matthew Jansen, an elected delegate to the Republican National Convention, is one of the irate people who called to denounce Rev. Christopher Rodkey and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. So a demonstration of tolerance and civility became a rallying cry of religious hatred.

The church has been inundated with hang up calls and Jansen left a voicemail that called Rev. Rodkey “godless” and the sign “despicable” for simply wishing Muslim neighbors a happy holiday. Jansen said “It is unbelievable that … you would wish them a blessed Ramadan.” Well, it is really not that unbelievable for most people who value neighborly kindness and acceptance.

Jansen said later that he had driven past the church many times and has seen “disturbing things” on its sign. However, this one in his view “was over the top as far, as I was concerned.” He added “I don’t see Islam — or the Muslim belief — I don’t see it as legit.” Of course, that attitude puts him in the same intolerant mindset of some Islamic extremist groups that reject the faith of others (here and here and here). While Jansen did not threaten anyone, his response captures the rising intolerance and prejudice against Muslims in the country. The positive element of course remains this pastor and this church which took an opportunity to reach out to their neighbors on their common element of faith.

  1. jessejean, do not speak of “intelligence” when, as in your case, your occipital parietal region is deeply inserted with the noxious crevices of your cloacal zone.

  2. “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!”–Galatians 1:8

    From the religion of love!

  3. Ralph–I didn’t say you couldn’t speak. I said what you and your ilk were “speaking” was stupid. And your reply proves my point. I like free speech– I want more of it, so I can know where the crap is hidden. The more dumb people speak, the more smart people know what you’re thinking and therefore, what to do. Incidentally, maybe you were banned from that site you mentioned because you’re not intelligent enough to know what they are talking( writing) about and they don’t want to waste the space. Hmmm?

  4. Oh, United Church of Christ. No wonder. Sorry, I skimmed this very fast initially.

  5. I am an ex-Christian (with, to some extent, a personal vendetta against that religion) and quite irreligious, but I don’t see why (at all small “o” orthodox) Christian churches should wish Muslims a happy Ramadan when it’s a holiday that celebrates a “revelation” at odds with Christian doctrine. But I guess most mainstream Christianity has gotten wishy-washy beyond all recognition. I really hate the dishonest smudged lines drawn by religious liberals.

“We preach Christ crucified” can’t be reconciled to Islam, nor can the fundamental claim of incarnation.

  6. Jessejean, there are tons of leftist websites where the posters clang out their leftist, degenerate Islamopandering tripe that will be exactly to your liking. Sorry if the free speech offends your leftist authoritarian sensibilities. In fact, there’s a website dedicated 100% to Islamopandering. It’s called Loonwatch. You might enjoy them. Naturally, I’m banned from writing anything on Loonwatch, as they hate free speech (i.e., speech not to your liking) even more than you do, and the last thing leftists like them want to hear are the facts and the truth.

  7. Do Mosques wish Christians Merry Christmas or Happy Easter?

    Multi-Cultural-ism is a failure.
It only works of those who go to a different culture at least try to become part of the culture they move to. That does not mean to abandon their religious beliefs, largely. However Muslims faith blocks them from actually immersing themselves into their new country.

  8. Why can’t political types just keep to themselves and not harass ordinary people or their churches? It’s all about micro-management and control for many of them.

  9. Larry – yes, you are right. I did not mean to imply that everyone who’s emigrated here necessarily embraces Western values. Many do, but sadly, others do not.

I am concerned about our ability to vet large numbers of people from regions known for terrorism and human rights abuses. What if, after a mob threw some gay guys off of a building, someone said, “Let’s all go to America!” If they weren’t on a terror watch list, there would be nothing to stop them from claiming to be refugees from any number of countries. They don’t even have to prove their identity. They could just say they lost their ID. What if these attacks escalate? How are we going to protect the gay community, or anyone else on the long list of “people to kill” by extremists? Geez, some extremists even bothered to put Kim Kardashian on the list of enemies of Islam. Hollywood would be a ghost town if ISIS gets their way. Do you think they would still blame Republicans at that point?

I want the poets, the political activists, and all those Iranian kids who love everything Western. I don’t want the people persecuting them. Give me the Malala’s of the world, not the Taliban who shot her, poor child.

  10. JT, everyone, what do you think will happen in a couple of years if this US intel expert and his intel expert friends predictions of 500 Big Islamic terrorist attacks in the US?

If Trump doesn’t get in and these attacks get worst and worst I believe the American people, along with the military and police will revolt against this corrupt government.

The below video Infowars show is pretty good but I call your attention to 46 minutes in and further.

SF Tim Kennedy gets around to the numbers at 52 minute and on.

Below is part of the decades long plant by those corrupt in this government to bring it down.

  11. I would like to see Jonathan Turley write an article here addressing whether Islam is a religion or is it a government, by using Sharia Law, and pretending to be a religion?

I believe Islam is a government and not a religion, that Islam is not compatible with the USA’s Republic form of government, and is at the beginning it’s invasion and takeover of Europe and the USA.

I believe Islam should be Banned in the USA arguing that it’s not a religion but a barbaric type of government!

BTW: I don’t believe there are not any moderate Islamist and that they are all the problem. Just ask anyone from Israel.

Below the 2nd video shows you what these Islamic lunatics really are, the same ones some would like to claim are moderates.

The Islamic lunatics begin at about 1.46 minutes in.

  12. Karen,

Egyptian terrorist Mohamed Atta & Bin Laden, Wealthy, educated ring leaders of 9/11 attacks. $250 Bin Laden million play money can do wonders.

Atta moved with his family to the Abdeen section of Cairo at the age of 10. Atta studied architecture at Cairo University, graduating in 1990, and continued his studies in Hamburg, Germany at the Technical University of Hamburg. In Hamburg, Atta became involved with the al-Quds Mosque, where he met Marwan al-Shehhi, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, and Ziad Jarrah, together forming the Hamburg cell. Atta disappeared from Germany for periods of time, spending some time in Afghanistan, including several months in late 1999 and early 2000 when he met Osama bin Laden and other top al-Qaeda leaders. Atta and the other Hamburg cell members were recruited by bin Laden and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed for the “planes operation” in the United States.

  13. Denouncing Christopher Rodkey and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ isn’t “religious hatred.” They are denouncing Islamopandering. The more Islamopandering there is in the US, the more Islamoterrorism there will be. JT is a leftist, so he’s naturally deaf, dumb, and blind to reality. But that does not change the truth of what I’ve said. The statistics don’t lie. More Islamopandering, more Islamoterrorism. It’s as certain as night follows day.

Would Christopher Rodkey and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ be wishing Jews well? Buddhists? Hindus? Of course not! That’s not what they’re about. They’re about Islamopandering. In short, their not happy with the 49 dead in Orlando. They want more and more Islamoterrorism. There’s no satisfying the leftists.

  14. When a person is born into wealth, they tend to believe that whatever their family is or has done, is the right thing, which is why they were blessed. Otherwise they would have to feel guilty about their own and their family’s greed. Hence, condemning anyone in poverty or any other desperate situation or struggling in any way, becomes a way to justify their own greed.

  15. Dallastown, PA (where this ‘church’ is) is located in a rural area southeast of York, PA, miles from anywhere.
Would one think there are a lot of Muslims in such a location?
