Advocacy groups will sometimes compete for members by moving to the far extreme of an issue. As we have discussed, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is a good example. NARAL Pro-Choice has proven itself equally extreme in its message at times. The recent video parody entitled “Comedians in Cars Getting Abortions” is a good example. The video makes fun to seeking an abortion and refers to children as if they virtual vermin.
NARAL Pro-Choice released the Internet video as a parody of Jerry Seinfeld’s popular web show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” It stars actress Alice Wetterlund from HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and standup comic Nato Green. When asked why she wanted an abortion, Wetterlund says “I want an abortion because my body is doing a thing right now, that is not incubating a person, and I would like it to continue doing that thing.” She then points with disgust to nearby children and says that a child just slapped his father in the face. Wetterlund declares “Yea, we don’t need more of this in the world” and Green replies “Good point.”
If pro-life advocates wanted a promotional video, NARAL just gave it to them.
I have enormous respect for you Prof. Turley but I have to disagree with you on your interpretation of this and whether it even matters what the pro-life thugs think about it. This is humor. It’s funny but only in the sense of tragically funny and it makes clear the absurdity of the right wing extremists who do all they can to make the woman’s right to make a medical choice about reproduction without deliberate, inappropriate and yes, immoral interference. The pro life nuts that will see this as you suggest are completely unreasonable, irrational and are not even worth talking to let alone caring about what they think. They have been lying to themselves and many other ignorant but well meaning and gullible people ever since Roe v Wade came down all those years ago. Worrying about what those lying people who silently approve when some of their most deranged followers murder doctors and bomb abortion clinics no longer deserve any respect, deference or even the time of day from those of us capable of making the distinction between allowing women to make their own medical choices without supervision and meddling by the state and imposing their right wing, extremists Christian views on the whole of the nation. It’s funny. Young people, particularly young women will get this and it will be enormously effective as an advertisement for getting more people involved in NARAL>

Nothing wrong with getting an abortion. No need to apologize for wanting one. Since that’s the case, the video shouldn’t promote the false idea that getting an abortion is somehow some deeply regrettable, but necessary, action.
Liberaltarian – there is everything wrong with getting an abortion. It is killing a child.

The letter I just sent to Toyota:
NARAL is a pro-abortion organization that made a recent video parody entitled “Comedians in Cars Getting Abortions”. The video makes fun of seeking an abortion and refers to children as if they awful. Not unexpected.
But you should be aware that the beginning of the ad (see link below) uses the Toyota Prius for the first 30 seconds as if this were an ad for the car, then segues into the rest of the ‘comedy routine’. The Toyota Prius remains a big part of the rest of the ad as they ride around trying to find an abortion provider.
I have only bought Toyota cars since 1988. In that time, I have purchased seven, 5 at the ****** Toyota dealership:

This ad makes me want to buy a Honda.

Uh, I guess I must be dense but I didn’t detect anything about children being “virtual vermin.” To me it came off as a combined Toyota ad and an overly long, sorely in need of editing vignette of a 20 something self-absorbed couple having some difficulty finding an abortion provider. There was nothing about them that made me particularly care about their plight, but neither was I offended. Kind of boring, really, and not funny.
Well, the whole narcissistic self-absorption schtick is a lot more honest than the usual hysterical, “What about a 14 year old girl raped by her wicked step-uncle???” or “OMG you don’t want Dr. Mengele-ish clothes hanger back alley abortions do you???”
My friends and ex-friends who have had abortions are:
