Advocacy groups will sometimes compete for members by moving to the far extreme of an issue. As we have discussed, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is a good example. NARAL Pro-Choice has proven itself equally extreme in its message at times. The recent video parody entitled “Comedians in Cars Getting Abortions” is a good example. The video makes fun to seeking an abortion and refers to children as if they virtual vermin.
NARAL Pro-Choice released the Internet video as a parody of Jerry Seinfeld’s popular web show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” It stars actress Alice Wetterlund from HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and standup comic Nato Green. When asked why she wanted an abortion, Wetterlund says “I want an abortion because my body is doing a thing right now, that is not incubating a person, and I would like it to continue doing that thing.” She then points with disgust to nearby children and says that a child just slapped his father in the face. Wetterlund declares “Yea, we don’t need more of this in the world” and Green replies “Good point.”
If pro-life advocates wanted a promotional video, NARAL just gave it to them.
@KCF
All you’re interested in doing is arguing in circles. I will not get sucked into the vortex. I actually have work to do. I’ll see you again.
Beam, mote.
Some assembly required.
@KFC
Do I really have to label all commentary meant to be sarcastic/snarky with emojis and such?
“Who are you that I owe you an explanation?””
So much for your claim about “exploring their meaning or merit.”
As expected.
“This is just too rich.”
I did not claim Squeeky didn’t call you a name, only that you did so. Your claim is that you were above that, “exploring their meaning or merit.”
Hilarious.
Squeeky, read JT’s Civility rule
Civility and Decorum Policy:
This blog is committed to the principles of free speech and, as a consequence, we do not ban people simply because we disagree with them. Indeed, we value different perspectives and do not want to add another “echo chamber” to the Internet where we each repeat or amplify certain views. However, the Turley blog was created with a strong commitment to civility, a position that distinguishes us from many other sites. We do not tolerate personal attacks or bullying. It is strictly forbidden to use the site to publish research regarding private information on any poster or guest blogger. There are times when a poster reveals information about themselves as relevant to an issue or their experiences. That is fine and is sometimes offered to broaden or personalize an issue. For example, I am open about my background and any current cases to avoid questions of conflicts or hidden agendas. However, researching people or trying to strip people of anonymity is creepy and will not be allowed.
Frankly, while I have limited time to monitor the site, I will delete abusive comments when I see them or when they are raised to me. If the conduct continues, I will consider banning the person responsible. However, such transgressions should be raised with me by email and not used as an excuse to trash talk or retaliate. I am the only one who can ban someone from the blog and I go to great lengths not to do it or engage in acts that might be viewed as censorship. Yet, we have had a few people who simply want to foul the cyber footpath with personal name-calling, insults, and threatening behavior. If they will not conform to our basic rules (which should not be difficult for any adult person in society), they will have to move on.
Wow, a blog/forum with no feature to edit typos? Interesting.
I’ll have to be more diligent in my keyboarding. 😉
Google says:
“No results found for “They aren’t in Heisenberg’s box in some state of dead-live probabilistic haze. Their wave function has collapsed”.
“No results found for “Heisenberg’s box in some state of dead-live probabilistic haze.””
“”Their wave function has collapsed” 3 results (0.61 seconds). All refer to actual wave theory discussions, not used as a metaphor.
Not plagiarized.
Wrong again.
@KFC
And I ask “Who are you that I owe you an explanation?”
It’s funny. I’ve been compared to a Nazi , miscellaneous psychopaths, and a Mayan priest. I’ve been called a baby-eater and compared to a budding serial killer.
But, I sue the words “”infantile,” “low standard,” “simplistic”” and KFC calls me out for being a “name caller”. This is just too rich.
“meaningless to me”
I’m not trying to impart meaning to you.
““I didn’t say I valued the lives of animals over ALL humans, Just certain ones.”
Again I ask: What is your “value” criterion based on?
No, not a debate.
You are not exploring meaning or merit in any way.
You are not attacking my or Squeeky’s arguments, but attacking us, in every one of your last several posts.
Unless you think “Remove the sticks from your anus.” is exploring ‘meaning’ in some way.
@KFC
“That’s some deliciously creative post-doctoral level wit, Groucho.”
Yeah, I wonder who she plagiarized for that one?
Everything aside, your analysis of my responses is, once again, meaningless to me.
@groucho
Let me translate that for you within the analogy:
Groucho: “Who in their right mind would listen to that little boy? Only a person with low standards! Because obviously he is not intellectually well-endowed enough to comprehend the true magnificence of the Emperor’s clothing!”
@kcf
Notice how the liberals always conflate “condemning the speech of the argument” with “rebutting the argument”???
🙂

Hugh, why is that quote a favorite?
What do you think it means?
@IT Guy
I’m used to people like Squeaky. They are all happy spewing their rhetoric until challenged. Then, as Squeaky demonstrates, they usually go straight into the ad hominem because they can’t debate their point on its merit.
(And, yes KFC, I see this as debate. If it’s just rhetoric, as you say, all we do is stand on our digital soap boxes making statements without exploring their meaning or merit.)
“They aren’t in Heisenberg’s box in some state of dead-live probabilistic haze. Their wave function has collapsed.”
That’s some deliciously creative post-doctoral level wit, Groucho.
But your name-calling (“infantile,” “low standard,” “simplistic,”) is perhaps high school senior-level snark, so I give you a B for effort, C for effect.
@KCF
If you consider that infantile diatribe of Squeaky’s something that was good “FTW” then, you have an incredibly low standard for success.

If we’re sharing bible crap, here’s one of my all time favorites.
Luke 14:26
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
@kcf
Thanks! The pro-abortion people want to have their cake and eat it, too. They want to be aligned with the forces of goodness, and light, and intelligence, and forward thinking. If it just wasn’t for those pesky dead kids.. .
