NARAL Under Fire For Video “Comedians In Cars Getting Abortions”

UnknownUnknownAdvocacy groups will sometimes compete for members by moving to the far extreme of an issue. As we have discussed, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is a good example. NARAL Pro-Choice has proven itself equally extreme in its message at times. The recent video parody entitled “Comedians in Cars Getting Abortions” is a good example.  The video makes fun to seeking an abortion and refers to children as if they virtual vermin.

NARAL Pro-Choice released the Internet video as a parody of Jerry Seinfeld’s popular web show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” It stars actress Alice Wetterlund from HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and standup comic Nato Green. When asked why she wanted an abortion, Wetterlund says “I want an abortion because my body is doing a thing right now, that is not incubating a person, and I would like it to continue doing that thing.”  She then points with disgust to nearby children and says that a child just slapped his father in the face.  Wetterlund declares “Yea, we don’t need more of this in the world” and Green replies “Good point.”

If pro-life advocates wanted a promotional video, NARAL just gave it to them.

  1. Squeeky,

This is JT’s blog. Not yours. A block or banishment is in order.

  2. @groucho

Nope, you’re wrong again. I am the little boy in The Emperor’s New Clothes who said, “Hey lookee! The stupid Emperor is running around nekkid!”

Now some people, (like college educated white folks) might find that message simplistic. Because after all, they were sold the whole silly idea about fine and wondrous fabric on the basis that it could only be appreciated by the truly sophisticated and intelligent person with discriminating taste. And obviously the little boy is not sophisticated, nor does he have discriminating taste.

Assuming the little boy was on this thread, he would link a photograph of the nekkid Emperor to cut through all the BeeEss.

So, take all your overly-intellectualized claptrap, and shove it for the nonce where the sun don’t shine. Look at the picture of the dead baby, and simply ask yourself if that seems to be something worth fighting for. Worth being defended. And remember, the Nazis had some wonderful rationalizations why killing jews and other undesirables was just peachy.

And as far as dichotomies, then dead babies are about as non-dichotomous as you can get. They aren’t in Heisenberg’s box in some state of dead-live probabilistic haze. Their wave function has collapsed.

  3. “the problem is that you and Squeaky like to debate points on the most base, simplistic levels

    1. This isn’t a debate. It’s not a dialectic, it’s rhetoric.
    2. Claiming intellectual superiority without demonstrating it in your arguments is pre-6th Grade.
    3. You are assuming that dichotomy was the only choice offered. It wasn’t. It was rhetorical.

  4. “I didn’t say I valued the lives of animals over ALL humans, Just certain ones.

What is your “value” criterion based on?

  5. “I didn’t interpret; I quoted. The Bible

You offered no quotes here at all, just your laughable misinterpretation:

“According to the Bible, not only are fetuses not persons, but infants under a month old are not yet persons (see e.g. Exodus 21:22-23; Leviticus 27:6; Numbers 3:15-16).”

And your Hosea quote was also (mis)interpreted by you:

“It appears that not only is abortion not prohibited, but that God sometimes requires and even revels in the killing of fetuses and infants (and their mothers).”

    So,
    1. At first, you did not quote the Bible, you interpreted.
    2. Then you interpreted a Bible quote to mean something it does not mean. (It says nothing about abortion, or whether God revels in in it.)

    Conclusion?
    Mendacity.

  6. @KCF

The value of snark is lost in chat threads but, I didn’t say I valued the lives of animals over ALL humans, Just certain ones. Like Squeaky’s. Maybe yours, too.

You see, if I valued ALL human life equally it could be interpreted that I hold my children’s lives as being equal with a pedophile priest. But I don’t. For my children all I want is happiness, love, and success. For the priest I would prefer a short stretch in the general population at the state prison followed by an execution.

You see, the problem is that you and Squeaky like to debate points on the most base, simplistic levels, often present dichotomy as the only choice. So much so that, most of your points (and Squeaky’s) could easily be counter pointed by a 6th Grade Debate class participant. Squeaky is especially ineffective in trying to successfully argue a point because of her invective laden dialogue. Maybe you two should step outside and shout at some clouds for awhile or maybe yell at some kids to get off of your lawn.

Here, let me translate your comment for you!

“Help! JT! Help! Squeeky is making us pro-abortion people look at and confront what we are in favor of, which is dead babies! Our self esteem is in real jeopardy here! Oh hurry! Please! Make it go away! This is micro-aggression! We need a safe space, our own womb! No, that’s bad choice of words. We need a uh er Oh, a panic room! Oh help us, pretty pleeeeeze!”

    You’re welcome!

  9. Squeaky,

I’m so sorry the Bible can be so violent and sickeningly immoral. I’m even more sorry that it seemingly can’t be used to justify all your personal wants and beliefs. But I didn’t write it.

And I certainly don’t attempt to use it to justify hate and bigotry That would make me the worst kind of hypocrite.

    KCFleming,

I didn’t interpret; I quoted. The Bible. And you had to Google your butt off just to find a twentieth century rabbi who agreed with you.

Sometimes the religious can be embarrassingly obvious. Don’t you think?

  10. “I value the lives of dogs, cats, and all animals. Especially over yours.

    Anti-human and anti-fetus; pro-death all around.
You must be a hoot at parties.

  11. “the text you quoted was nowhere to be found

The Midrash, Mishneh Torah and commentary, fiver, are a major part of the Jewish understanding of the Bible and its laws.

Your own interpretations of selected bible passages are ignorant, risible, and mendacious, as they have nought to do with abortion.

  12. @Squeaky

The only problem with your Little Orville analogy is that I value the lives of dogs, cats, and all animals. Especially over yours.

  13. @groucho

Oh you just spinning and gyrating and spewing out whatever you can to try to convince yourself and others that you are not a pro-baby killing monster, who shares the same mindset of Nazis and Mayan priests and other miscellaneous psychopaths. Sorry, but at the end of the day, you are still pro-dead babies, and I am not.

Lame, pathetic attempt. I thought all you anti-religious people believed that there was a morale code that depended not on the Bible, or religion in general. That atheists could be good and moral without God, or the Ten Commandments. But, when your murderous, bloodthirsty natures are thrown in your face, you run back to the Bible to try to justify it. Pathetic. Lame.

  15. @Squeaky

Nah, dead babies are hard to chew.

Why do you live with such a dichotomous mind set?

In your mind, since the image of an aborted fetus does not disturb me it means either I eat babies for lunch or I am death obsessed.

Remember, you’re the one posting images of aborted fetuses and I”M the one who’s death obsessed? Really? You should check yourself before you wreck yourself.

  16. @groucho

Oh no, groucho, you have the analogy all wrong. It’s like Little Orville, the budding psychopath, kills neighborhood dogs and cats. Then, we find out that you are also pro dead dogs and cats, and don’t even find pictures of the dead pets disturbing. Then we compare you to Little Orville.

    There. Fixed it for you!

  17. KCFleming,

Strange, I did a search at BibleGateway of over thirty different versions of the Bible and the text you quoted was nowhere to be found. In any of them.

But I did note some more passages in, um, actual Bibles. It appears that not only is abortion not prohibited, but that God sometimes requires and even revels in the killing of fetuses and infants (and their mothers).

Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. Hosea 9:14

Yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb. Hosea 9:16

Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up. Hosea 13:16

Because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. 2 Samuel 12:14

Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt. Genesis 38:24

    (nt)

    1. fiver – it is clear you are not a Bible historian. All of the quotes are from the Old Testament which is written about the God of Vengeance. The New Testament is about the God of Forgiveness. BTW, a couple of your examples are actually infanticide, not abortion.

  18. @Dewey et al.

There are a ton of such aborted fetus images on the net. A lot of these stories when pro-abortion supporters go bananas occur when they are confronted with the image of what to them has been a sterile intellectual enterprise. Kinda hard to pretend you are pro-goodness and pro-light when the whole dead baby thingy gets brought out of the closet and shoved in your face. There was a story here about some wacky professor in California (IIRC) who attacked pro-life demonstrators after pictures were handed out.
