DNC CFO Marshall Apologizes For Email Pushing Religious-Based Attack On Sanders [UPDATED]

Wasserman SchultzThe Democratic National Committee (DNC) is still attempting to spin out of the scandal over the recently leaked emails showing that, as long claimed by critics, it was undermining Bernie Sanders and rigging the process for Hillary Clinton during the primaries. It would seem obvious to most of us that not only should Debbie Wasserman Schultz resign, but a number of DNC officials fired for the emails, particularly DNC CFO Brad Marshall. Yet, the DNC is been largely quiet and clearly hoping that Democrats simply do not care if they have been directly misled by the DNC, which sought to engineer the win for Clinton.  It may be right.  Many Democratic voters (like many Republican voters) seem to have simply accepted that politicians lie to them and that people who are demanding honesty from leaders are naive (or do not see “the bigger picture”).  The DNC is clearly hunkering down to see if “this too shall pass” with voters.  While Wasserman Schultz has given up her speaking role at the convention, she is clinging on to the chairmanship of the party. Update: Wasserman Schultz has resigned but there is still little media attention to Marshall, Davey, and others at the DNC who actively plotted against Sanders).

The sheer mendacity of the Democratic leadership in these emails is breathtaking.  At the very time that these officials were denying allegations that they were undermining Sanders at every turn, Marshall and his colleagues were secretly doing exactly what they were publicly denying.  However, Marshall was particularly disgraceful in his effort to use Sanders’ faith against him.  He pushed for an attack on Sanders as an agnostic or atheist. That should not sit well with the millions of agnostics and atheists in this country — one of the fastest going segments of the population.

Marshall wrote that “for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.” This went to various DNS communications directors who were also busy denying that any secret effort against Sanders.DNC CEO Amy Dacey responded “Amen”  Both Dacey and Marshall have been part of a concerted denial of such efforts and both should have been fired with other officials involved in these exchanges.

Marshall’s apology only magnifies the problem.  He wrote

“I deeply regret that my insensitive, emotional emails would cause embarrassment to the DNC, the Chairwoman, and all of the staffers who worked hard to make the primary a fair and open process. The comments expressed do not reflect my beliefs nor do they reflect the beliefs of the DNC and its employees. I apologize to those I offended.”

Really?  You send an email to other DNC officials suggesting an attack on a Democratic candidate’s religion and, after being caught, you say that it does not “reflect my beliefs”?  This was not some aside at a party but an email sent to other party functionaries.  Moreover, Marshall makes no mention of the fact that he, Dacey, and Wasserman Schultz were denying such a secret campaign against Sanders at the very time that these emails were sent.  The very fact that the DNC did not immediately dump Marshall, Dacey and others is telling.  Indeed, they should have been let go when these emails were sent, let alone after they were forced to acknowledge their dishonest and disgraceful conduct.

  1. Breaking newz: According to the NYTimes “Dismayed by Donald Trump, Michael Bloomberg Will Endorse Hillary Clinton”

More TTPers lining up for shill for Hil. No surprise there – they are into full blown panic now that the Donald will win.

YET so stubborn they will not give Bernie the nomination.

  2. The sad thing is that most Dem higher ups don’t see this stuff as inherently bad. I am sure that they are sitting around snickering about it. Because it isn’t so much a “lie” as it is a “narrative.” Like with the white privilege and racial victimology Democrat narrative. If Goebbels was right, that if you repeat a Big Lie enough people will come to believe it, then how much quicker will people fall for an often-repeated “narrative”, which isn’t as outright false as a Big Lie? A whole bunch quicker.

What is sooo sinister about “atheist” “narrative” is that it is meant to deceive by sheer sneakiness, without any regard to honesty. How anybody can still support the Democrats after this is beyond me. Maybe it is low self esteem or something?

I know it’s hot and synapses aren’t connecting as quickly (mine as well), but you should re read what I said about The Guardian – yes they are corporate controlled BUT unlike the NYTimes they allow commenters to comment freely which is more useful than whatever HRC good / Trump bad narrative they are pushing. Although I must say I was surprised they ran a story on Jill Stein recently which our MSM will not do except for Fox. And they allowed Cornel West to write an op-ed.

You’d be shocked at the wide range of material I access regularly to attempt to cobble together some semblence of the truth.

The Intercept, The Hill, Common Dreams, CounterPunch, Truthout, Russia Today, der Spiegel, die Zeit, National Review, Foreign Policy in Focus, Boing Boing, Progressive Review, Aeon, The Atlantic, OpenCanda.org, Alex Jones, TYT, DemocracyNow, Foreign Affairs, Breitbart, Talking Points Memo, Salon, The Baffler, Orion, zerohedge.com, USuncut, Heavy, Rolling Stone, TimBlackTV, The Jimmy Dore Show, Redacted Tonite, The Humanist, Washington Times…………

Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow – if so, will he become my new best friend?
    Trumps is dropping hints.

RE: “Where information comes from is only relevant if the information isn’t accurate. If a right wing site presents information which is wrong then it should be called out for presenting lies. When a left wing site presents information which is wrong then it should be called out for presenting lies.”

Spot on my friend! Partisan thinking is like living in a vacuum.

  6. Lost amidst all the angst for Bernie )who has twice now betrayed his supporters), is the ending of the quote on atheism. “it’s a Jesus thing”. Add Christians to the list of those the DNC ridicules and plays for fools.

    SMM,

Where information comes from is only relevant if the information isn’t accurate. If a right wing site presents information which is wrong then it should be called out for presenting lies. When a left wing site presents information which is wrong then it should be called out for presenting lies.

Right now I notice that most MSM is covering the “Putin ate my homework” story put ouf by the Clinton campaign while studiously ignoring the content of the e-mails except for effects on Sanders. It is difficult to get good information on the more important parts of the leaks so people have to look for that information wherever it may be found.

If we had honest media on the left, it would be all over this story, as should the MSM. However, we can clearly see from the e-mails themselves that the DNC has control over many important media outlets as well as an army of trolls in its service hitting blogs and FB, etc. I don’t really understand why it is wrong of Autumn to criticize the Guardian which is going with the Putin angle and no substance and try to find her more accurate information elsewhere.

If you know of specific facts presented by her linked website URL which are false, please let us know.

bambam, “Was my statement, pertaining to her gross, greasy locks somewhat mean? Perhaps. Bigoted and prejudiced?”

Yes, yes and yes. And misogynistic. Trump an his followers are not too kind to woman about their looks or weight. They prefer barbie doll women with lots of plastic surgery. And if you get close to fifty they throw you away. Ask Ivana.

  8. Of possible interest: “Clinton Cash” is being aired on Breitbart.com today at 2 PM EST and 8 EST PM

    http://www.breitbart.com/clinton-cash-movie/

Don’t know if I will watch it. I am already so nauseated with the DNC/Clinton(s) shenanigans Autumn, you complain abouth the Guardian and link Breitbart. hmmm.

  9. “My advice is to immediately withdraw support and loyalty from all parties which hold you in contempt, manipulate you and take away your rights.” Repubs didn’t listen to their base, who want jobs, no trade agreements, no “amnesty” for illegal migrants, etc. Dems didn’t listen to progressives, who want a decent world to live in with Wall Street, Monsanto and the 1% reined in, and some action on climate change, fracking, and likewise the TPP. The nomination was engineered for Hillary from the start (Kochs, NY Times, DNC, etc.) DNC in a big way and the Dems are completely unrepentant, won’t throw a bone to Bernie people, have no shame and because of this behavior Trump will win. I’m a never Hillary and a new independent. I will vote for Jill Stein, but I agree with some of what Trump says, too. The parties have taken the people for granted rather than represent them. The revolving door, re-election, the $, the speech-making, the lifestyle, are far and away what they prioritize. Public Service is a meaningless concept, though they think (or pretend) that’s what they’re doing.

  10. bettykath, I suggest that you also check out the definitions of the words that you carelessly toss around. Nothing I stated was bigoted or prejudiced. You may not like what I said, but painting my words with bigotry or prejudice is outrageous. Even for you. Shouldn’t you be making some comments about the evil and dangerous police that we have in our midst? That’s typically your style. Then, stand back, as they are murdered, in cold blood, in the streets, claiming no responsibility for the rhetoric that incited the murders. Ah yes, you are the perfect one to criticize another’s words. At least my words could only cause the much-needed makeover that DWS so desperately needs. Your words, on most threads about the police, only condemn them and stoke the fires of hate and resentment that precipitate and provoke the cold-blooded murders of law enforcement. Way to go.

  11. @bams

Lol! And this will sound misogynistic, which is the latest SJW meme, but DWS just plain like looks like a stupid, vacuous bimbo to me. Its something about the eyes, and maybe the eye shadow job, but she just looks like an idiot in the face. I know looks can be deceiving, but in her case it just fits.

Hollywood make-up artists know how to dress and make up people to fit their role, and if the role is a “stupid cheerleader” or “thoughtful moody Goth girl” — they can do it. DWS looks like somebody made her up to just look like an airhead. IMHO.

Yes, yes and yes. And misogynistic.

  13. If the Democrats ran Adolph Hitler III, complete with black uniform and swastika, I bet at least 50% of the Democratic base would still vote for him. Particularly after the MSM cleaned him up some. They would just spin all the anti-semitic stuff as being “pro-Palestinian” rhetoric.

  14. @putridrandy

Perhaps a nice dictionary should be on your next Santa’s Wish List. Obviously, words like “prejudice” and “bigotry” are not words that you comprehend. I find DWS to be a reprehensible and repulsive specimen of a being, which is only compounded by her unattractive outward appearance. Trump’s hair is routinely the subject of much ridicule, yet I seriously doubt that you get your panties in a twist when you hear those remarks, declaring them to be bigoted or prejudiced. Was my statement, pertaining to her gross, greasy locks somewhat mean? Perhaps. Bigoted and prejudiced? No. Not unless you are totally clueless as to the actual definitions of those words and enjoy throwing them about with wild abandon. She is a public figure, and like all public figures, the manner in which she presents herself is up for ridicule and/or praise. Welcome to the world. Did you have a meltdown when the press couldn’t stop from discussing Ivanka’s hairstyle and dress after she spoke the other evening? Did you down a bottle of Xanax after all of the discussion about Melania’s appearance? Yes, the world takes notice. If that offends you, I suggest that you find another planet.

  15. Bernie is not renouncing Clinton: “…But the senator, who endorsed Clinton last month, declined to focus his anger towards her, saving it for Trump. Sanders said he was proud of the concessions his campaign had won from Clinton on the Democratic platform, and praised her vice-presidential pick, Tim Kaine, as “an extremely bright guy, an extremely nice guy”.

“What is most important is defeating the worst candidate for president that I have seen in my lifetime,” he said. “I can’t speak for 13 million people, but I think most of my supporters understand Trump has got to be defeated; we need to elect as many progressives as possible.” (The Guardian)

If you support Bernie, you’ve been Berned twice now.

  16. Dirty politics is a lot like baseball. A time for individual achievement. Runs, throws, catches & hustles, part of a team. But when you’re out there for your self…….
Here’s Al Capone in the untouchables. Justice with the help of a baseball bat.

  17. I would be hard pressed to vote for Clinton now, even with the Supreme Court as a factor. You can’t connive your way into the nomination, get found out, and go without consequences. To do so would be tantamount to an acceptance of corruption.

  18. Trump has Pence being directed to some place called Heart Mountain, Wyoming where there was a Japanese detention camp in WWII. It was a one sentence email with no reason given.

  19. This is a poem, or perhaps song lyrics, from a Trump email last week concerning Bernie:

Great big gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts…
    Mutilated monkey meat…
    Petrified porpus puss.

French fried eyeballs drenched in birdy sheet.
    I ain’t got a spoon, I gotta straw!
