NC GOP Attacks Kaine For Wearing Honduras Flag Pin . . . Which Turns Out To Be His Service Pin For His Marine Son

1447331_630x354Few of us are happy with the poisonous and dysfunctional politics today. With the two most disliked candidates in history securing the two main nominations, tensions are rising as each party seeks to make voters hate the other candidate more than their own candidate. One particularly low moment came with an attack from the North Carolina GOP which accused Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) of inexplicably wearing a flag of Honduras on his lapel rather than an American flag. Not only did the pin share little with the Honduras flag, it was a Blue Star Service pin for Kaine’s son who is serving as a marine.

In the tweet, the NC GOP told followers “.@timkaine wears a Honduras flag pin on his jacket but no American flag. Shameful.” In raising the false alarm, the NC GOP not only succeeded in making themselves look rather pathetic but succeeded in highlighting the service of the Kaine family.

The party later took down the tweet and wrote to those who corrected them: “We appreciate you letting us know. Thanks for letting us correct our mistake.”

I wish that this could be dismissed as an anomaly in today’s politics but it could actually constitute one of the most substantive comments in this dismal election.

  1. I agree with Autumn. As Senator Sanders followers stop and take a deep breath, they will levitate towards Dr. Stein instead of Donald Trump. She is the logical choice for these people.

  2. So, haven’t any of you conservative commenters figured out how to blame this on Obama yet?

  3. High on Co Kaine
    High on Co Kaine
    Casey Jones better…
    Watch her speed.

  4. “forgot to mention the BIG (yuuge) issue: TPP Kaine is a TPPer – voted for Fast Track. HRC is a TPPer although she says now she’s against it.”

McAuliffe clarified that and assured us that Clinton will absolutely not support TPP unless they change a few minor details.

Jill and the Donald are against the TPP

Well, I concede that maybe both of us are indulging in wishful thinking to a degree. But like a true Bernieorbuster I rely on issues and facts. Fact is that Trump is rising steadily in the polls. And Bernieorbusters are 47% of the folks who turned out to vote in the Demoncratric primaries (that is in states where our votes were actually counted). More Republicans voted than Dems in the primaries. And the majority of us are going to vote Jill, stay home or vote for the Donald. So unless the Dems can rig the general — which is possible – HRC is done as well as the DNC.

  7. Here are historical flags of Honduras to answer any question of the service pin resembling an earlier flag.

The Service Flag has been in use since 1917 and is the same design generally as the service pin.

Surprisingly, a Congressman out there didn’t express his worry that if too many stars were on the pin, it might tip up and capsize into the ocean.

“Kaine will do quite well all by himself at bringing about his demise. Just like the DNC.”

Don’t share your view. I think you are exhibiting a whole lotta wishful thinking here. You claim that it is a fact that Kaine will bring about his demise. But how can you claim this as a fact. Have you some crystal ball that provides you with a peak of what is yet to come? Seems to me that you have a rather misinformed understanding of what it means to label something a fact. What will delight me is if the outcome of this election affords me the opportunity on this forum on the day after the election to point out just how wrong you were.

I agree with you. Squeek used levity rather than addressing the issue at hand. However, fact remains that aside from the NC GOP trying to attack him using false flags, Kaine will do quite well all by himself at bringing about his demise. Just like the DNC. They are toast and I am SO delighted!

I could not resist the pun! I was powerless over it. Mea culpa!

Actually, I think this is just one more piece of stupid crap that passes for political discourse today. The Dems saw a Nazi salute, and the Republicans saw a . . . saw a. . .I don’t know, a Sekrit Honduran Conspiracy???

My goodness, but if you are going to smear your opponent, at least do it with some class! Make it funny! Make it light and witty! Like this masterpiece of political satire some talented and beautiful individual created for my BFF Penelope Dreadful:

  11. Interesting Squeaky that your first thought is to make an attempt at humor that makes Kaine appear to be the lesser person in this event rather than speak out against the obvious effort here by the NC GOP to demonize the man.

  12. When someone is attacking something it is always a good idea to have some idea what it is you are attacking just so you might actually know what it is that came back to bite you in the ass.

  13. typical of ignorant partisan idiots. and NC is bleeding jobs as corps are going elsewhere. A shame because I love Western North Carolina – aside from the natural beauty of the mountains it is a special place where so many people with different beliefs coexist. Too bad about Rev. Barber who leads the Moral Mondays marches in Raleigh caved to HRC. NC is gonna be torn apart from the insanity of partisans.
