Hillary Clinton has campaigned tirelessly for women votes, including heralding her nomination as a historic moment for all women. However, she continues to be unpopular not only with voters as a whole but a majority of women. The new Washington Post-ABC poll shows her at a record low despite spending roughly $100 million in political advertisements and an overwhelming media barrage against Trump. While seen by supporters as more of an anti-establishment figure, Trump has equally shocking figures and even top Clinton in unpopularity with many groups. Voters continue to reject both Trump and Clinton but that overwhelming voter anger at these choices does not appear to matter in our political system. The importance of this poll is not to suggest that Clinton will win. Rather, for voters, many believe it simply does not matter. Their views of Trump or Clinton seem immaterial to a system that is detached from the wishes of the majority of the electorate. While the Washington Post reports that Clinton has halted the polling “swoon” in August, the overwhelming distrust factor from the earlier poll continues.
Clinton recently asked why she was not 50 points ahead of Trump, but it is now clear that voters continue to harbor deep distrust of Clinton. Her unfavorable rating have gone from 42 percent in July to 56 percent now. To some degree, it is not surprising. Polls clearly showed that the voters did not want an establishment figure so the DNC worked to guarantee the nomination to the ultimate establishment figure. However, it clearly goes deeper than that. Even against one of the most unpopular figures in history (Trump is even worse at 63 percent unfavorability), Clinton cannot even maintain a majority of women with favorability ratings.
Despite the missteps of Trump and controversial history with women, Clinton’s favorable rating among women has dropped from 54 percent to just 45 percent. Her support among Hispanics has fallen from 71 percent to 55 percent.
Vice President Joe Biden seemed to reflect this persistent problem today by remarking that “I know some of you, and some of the people you are trying to convince are not crazy about Hillary. I know that.” However, he insisted that Clinton has gotten an unfair deal. Of course, the Clinton campaign appears to have largely pursued the “lesser of two evils” approach that is all too familiar to critics of the power duopoly in this country. The result is tragic where the citizens are being given a choice between the two least popular presidential candidates in the history of modern polling.
Most people that did what she did would lose their security clearance and be working in a store.
IMO, Hillary has the election all wrapped up. Ideas are easy to come by. The country needs a CEO who knows how to make good decisions that pose the least potential harm to people who are opposed to them. That is not what we are going to get.
CNN Reports: Hillary Clinton is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life. Donald Trump is Satan.
That’s the state of our mainstream media in a nutshell.
We need to resurrect Thomas Nast and bring down Mrs. Boss Tweed.
Trump blew himself up at the last debate. The tweeting he did at 3 am only made matters worse. No one has put a gun to his head and made him tweet stuff that has called his judgement into question. Blaming the media only goes so far. Most of the responsibility lies on Trump’s shoulders. Let’s see if he cares enough about his supporters to prepare for Sunday night.
I beg to disagree, if the media respectfully did their job, we would not be talking about Clinton right now, and probably not about Trump either. You reap what you sow.
Clinton was the anointed one in the democratic party because mainly felt it was her turn, and Trump capitalized on the anti-immigrant sentiment in the republican party. I Don’t necessarily blame the media for that. In the end both are flawed candidates but she studies and prepares and he seems not to care.
Once again, if the media would have been upfront about the Democratic party’s methods all along things would/could be different. They can share in the victory that we pretty much have to losers to vote for. I would have to go with the one who is not actively trying to fan the flames of WWIII. At least the pissed-haired big-mouth realizes that’s just not a good thing to do. More than the other person offers. But somehow, I feel most liberals here do not see this as an issue, which I find very interesting. It seems as though most apply their own reality model to a situation instead of seeing events and making calculations based on actions. That leads to my next statement, I have yet to really her Clinton supporters articulate what real foreign policy goals are (or really any goals… but I’ll just limit the remark to foreign policy). It’s always, “… but… the other guy…”
they don’t want to go there – foreign policy is one of her major Achilles heels. Iraq, Haiti, Honduras, Libya, Syria
Do you believe that Hillary Clinton never engaged in any act that might be considered corruption or an abuse of office?
Of course, she was investigated.
and…?
Crickets…. chip, chirp, chirp…
Don’t know.
creatives love HRC – so much material
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/white-nationalist-pac-willliam-johnson-radio-ads-trump White nationalists love Trump and their pac is cutting ads
And this is relevant to the conversation how? It is to equate to conclude that anyone who might support Trump is xenophobic at the least? I find this to be another situation of presenting Clinton as the preferred candidate solely by, “but… the other guy…” How about… ummmmm…. maybe, “Clinton Plans New Peace Initiative,” or, “Clinton plans to support a bill that would revoke the taxes on service workers’ tips…” Instead of hiring a bunch of neo nazis to sodomize the leader of a country with a bayonet. I guess some people are OK with that though.
Just trying to help the ‘left” sound a little like the left. That would help. I guess. Oh, but I forgot about the fracking industry support. Yikes. I give up. No one supporting the left in this election, sorry.
Hillary Clinton sings Al Sharpton’s praises
Stirring aords; those words remind me of MLK’s “I have a dream” speech
Lol and this blog as a mainstream legal blog (ABA gives it awards, it’s mainstream)…. let’s bring back anything else.
She is only 5 or 6 points ahead but that is enough. 🙂 Know a lot of Bernie voters and not one is voting for Trump. Trump uses Chinese steel for all his projects. He is a true working class hero…… not.
“Trump uses Chinese steel for all his projects. He is a true working class hero…… not.”
Trump is a hustler who has harnessed the frustrations of working class people – not that he has a clue how to deal with their economic problems.
Of course he could not have done that if the working class had not been abandoned by the Democrats who have been captured by corporate interests.
It is ironic that we have both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders to thank for the Democrats new found interest in working class economic pain, and skepticism toward trade agreements that trade jobs and national sovereignty for corporate profits.
hear hear BFM!!!
Obama is trying hard to go to war with Russia.
Are there any sane people in the oligarchy? If so, please stop him by speaking out forcefully and do it now.
Jill we are in a serious situation. Obama & Co has lost their minds.
We know he doesn’t have a clue about foreign policy, but I would think they all understand now that the new Russian missiles in Syria have taken us pretty much out of the conflict. I just hope Russian can put IS to bed asap and shut that whole human meat-grinder nightmare down over there. Russia was asked by the rightful government to be there. We were not. As simple as that. Quit blowing my tax money on these murderous adventures.
And hasn’t the world had enough of Kerry? Can’t we just have a write-in so the government set him up with an ice cream stand and he can be a corner preacher, keep his salary, he’ll cost us less money in the end this way?? I just saw a headline about wanting Russia investigated for “war crimes.” Russia says, “Takes one to know one…”
JT throws out his bombs on Clinton thats months old and some of you eat it up. And judging from some of the comments you all just can’t get enough of alternate reality. I know some of you out there believe the world is flat and all but…………Jeez
Alt right think
yup, the alt right does some great investigative stuff that the MSM “overlooks” like this story on HRC and a child actor staging. And they did a great job reporting the scabs in Philly as well
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-10-05/clinton-caught-using-child-actor-ask-planted-question-pennsylvania-townhall
So, it is like if it’s old, it didn’t happen??? Eh? I don’t get it.
It is old and OUT OF DATE. That’s what’s important here. Mrs. Clinton’s numbers have moved since May, and rather dramatically in the last week. Favorables up. Unfavorables down.
And people would like to see Trumps taxes for the last 10-15 years. Like all the other candidates in modern history.
No one knows how much money he’s taken in from the Russians and the Saudis. No one knows to whom he owes money. No one knows what liabilities he is facing. Or if he’s actually a billionaire at all. Or how badly he’s been scamming people with his charities. Or his phony university. It goes on and on. He should just release them all and come clean. What is he hiding?
Same with Hillary.
They are both con artists.
So, why then is a 1995 tax return so friggin important?
Hillary, Hillary bo billary..
bannana fanna fo fillarey
fee fi moe tillery..
Hillary!
If the first two letters are ever the same..
Ya drop them both and say the name…
C’mom Dr. Turley: this poll was from May 21, 2016! I’d like to think you weren’t aware of how old it was. Otherwise it looks as though you were just looking to smear Hillary.
realclearpolitics has the ACTUAL latest numbers, which show a solid improvement in Clinton’s favorable/unfavorable ratings.
But the conservatives on this board don’t take kindly to facts, so you just have to let them have their perception-as-reality version of the world. It took Romney by surprise back in 2012 and it’s going to happen again in November.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/clinton_favorableunfavorable-1131.html
phillyT – I do not believe anyone’s stats at this point. I know that several polls are over populating with Democrats which sways their polls, and the difference between Clinton and Trump is within the margin of error.
Keep thinking that. Karl Rove was certain that Romney had it back in 2012 because he said the same thing.
So, hooray, Clinton was crowned, votes be d*mned. I have a bad feeling the worst kind of voter fraud will occur so she can be crowned and Democrats won’t say a thing (which will be sadly ironic considering their protests over voter ID laws). It’ll be the Bush/Gore election all over again, but it’ll be okay ’cause Hillary got crowned.
We need to start standing up for what is fair and just for everyone, not just whether it was an R or a D, etc. D*mn the tribal thinking.
You know I dislike Trump. That said, Hillary has shown herself corrupt in office already.
Voting her in says that honesty, justice, and the rule of law are subordinate.
Vote No Confidence.
What do you call someone who thinks they create their own reality?
(check all that apply)
[ ] Carl Rove
[ ] Republican
[ ] Delusional
I thought it looked like old info. Latino support for Clinton now stands at 80 percent.
How hard do you have to look to smear HRC?
JT is as political as Hillary, he’s got to give his base something. You correctly pointed out the date of this poll.
I am an elderly female widow. Clinton is a disgrace to all women; she cheats, lies, steals and kills. How can any woman support this fraud? I shudder to think who will be appointed to the supreme Court and to be her advisors. should she be elected. Please, women. Use your heads and not your hearts. Trump may be unpolished, but he is a real deal, and he WILL make America Great Again.
“Despite the missteps of Trump and controversial history with women…”
Despite the crimes of Clinton and controversial history with women, specifically Monica Lewinsky (whom Hillary called a “narcissistic loony toon”), Gennifer Flowers (whom Hillary called “trailer trash”), and Juanita Broaddrick, who claims that Hillary threatened her after Bill raped her.
The Clinton Crime Family’s relationship with women can be summed up by their close adviser James Carville: “If you drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you’ll find,..”
He was referring to Ms. Flowers.
Over at Greenwald’s twitter, a man who was in a focus group for Cnn after the debate said that 12 people said they will vote third party, more than those who said they would vote Trump or Clinton combined. On a supposed live feed CNN took out this damaging but truthful response and changed it to 12 undecided.
This is just so creepy. We are desperate for politicians who are willing to tackle the realities we face as a nation, not with fascism but with a real commitment to dealing with global warming, social injustice and returning the rule of law . Instead we are lied to and manipulated. No wonder 3rd parties are so dangerous at this time when few people actually want the “choices” the oligarchy gives us.
Yeah they had to do 4 takes. Nothing like pure unadulterated journalism huh?
I’m going to write in Santa Claus.
The dude has delivered the goods since I was a kid.
He is still married, hires minorities and is kind to animals and small children.
He gets off his hiney and delivers as promised at least once year; which, is more than most of our members of congress can boast about.
He’s also pro coal so that should be appealing to my fellow Kentuckians.
Santa, Santa, Santa. . .
Don’t Pause, Vote For Claus
Oh yeah, that promise is designed to totally piss off the HRC supporters.
Let the hand wringing begin.
As Nelson Would Say:
best comment of the day from someone in FL
“Wish me luck with Hurricane Matthew. If I survive I will vote for Trump. If I don’t make it I will vote for Hillary.”
“Despite the missteps of Trump and controversial history with women…”
controversial is what you call it as a public intellectual… That’s spineless.
What Jill wrote. Accept it or not, we’re living under a fascist regime, which will anoint Clinton as chief destabilizer and authoritarian to protect the Federal Reserve’s flow of otherwise worthless paper.
Clinton wears no clothes!
Trying desperately to eliminate that nude image from my brain. Pass the bourbon!
Make that a double…
Make that a barrel
what Nick said. Ugh! Steve did you have to write that? =)
ROFL
STEVE! Now I have to go wash my brain! I’ll never get that visual out.
Karen – I did an hour of meditation clearing my mind of everything. That helped. 😉
By the way…..speaking as a single woman Independent voter…..
I could not care less about what Trump said or did 20 years ago. I could not care less about his tax returns. I could not care less that he is not always very articulate.
I care that he comes across as authentic and ‘real’. I care about the big issues. And I agree with his positions on the issues that matter to voters. So please stop with the petty character attacks and focus on the issues.
What has Hillary ever really done? She worked for Childrens Defense Fund a long long time ago. What the hell is this childrens insurance program she always lists as an accomplishment?
She represented a child rapist and laughed about it. She was first lady of Arkansas mired in scandal. Then first lady in the White House mired in scandal the entire time. Then became a carpetbagging NY senator who did nothing but vote for the war in Iraq and now collects a pension from that job. And she was a disastrous secretary of state.
That is not much of a record to run on. But, as Obama would have us believe she is the most qualified EVER. Yeah, not so much.
Hillary will never be an effective leader. She is mired in too much corruption from the get go. She is not inspiring. She is corrupt. She is inauthentic. She is a liar. She is unethical. She is greedy and power hungry. She is in the strangest ‘marriage’ any of us have ever seen. And I would prefer not to have to see it played out in the public sphere for another 4 years. Enough already. Go retire and play with your grandchildren.
What I care about is the change Trump can and will bring to Washington.
“But now, per a report last night from the Wall Street Journal, we know that, not only did the Obama administration know about Hillary’s private email server they actually conspired, along with the State Department, to cover it up. ” at Zero Hedge and DCleaks twitter
If you like being manipulated and like to. If you are for murder and torture. If you adore a police state. If you hate poor women, women in Africa and Muslim countries, you’ll love Clinton!
Could you link to the poll itself?
I am voting FOR Trump. I am an Independent, single woman voter. A vote for Hillary is a 100% guarantee of more of the same: corruption of the highest order, and more scandal.
Does anyone want to remind voters of the 8 years of scandal in the first Clinton White House and how much of it was tied to the First Lady Hillary Clinton at the time? How about the scandals that have followed Hillary since she began this presidential campaign? Does anyone think it will be any different if she reaches the Oval Office?
A vote FOR Trump is a for a non-politician outsider who may very well turn out to be extremely effective in solving some of our biggest problems as a nation.
With Hillary it is a 100% guarantee of more corruption and sleaze.
With Trump we have a 50% chance of success and only 50% chance of corruption and failure.
I choose to go with the 50% chance of surprisingly effective success and vote for Trump.
Trump speaks TO me, Hillary speaks TO elitists, snobs, smarmy fold with more money than they know what to do with and an impression of our varied states of life as “deplorable”, and so forth. Hillary has never provided me common ground to stand on with her.
*folk
Trump also speaks to the white nationalists.
And Hillary also speaks to black nationalists.
What’s your point?
American Nationalists*
FTFY
Trump wants to bring back jobs, and prosperity for ALL Americans, despite race or creed. Why do we keep letting in illegal immigrants (it IS against the law, even though they won’t enforce it), who take jobs away from American citizens who could really use them? I think legal citizens definitely deserve a job before someone who doesn’t even have a green card. And that is the heart of this election. Do we want prosperity for America, or do we want to give it away to the corporations of the world? Ask yourself that question.
