A new CBS poll shows considerable opposition to the Trump Administration’s approach to immigration. The poll confirms that immigration is the top issue in the minds of voters. However, it also shows 60 percent of voters support the right of illegal immigrants being allowed to stay and achieve citizenship. Some 58 percent oppose the building of the wall.
The percentage is even higher for those favoring immigrants since an additional 13 percent would allow the immigrants to stay but not apply for citizenship. Only 23 percent would force them to leave. The percentage rise according to party. Yet, only 43 percent of Republicans (less than a majority) favor requiring all illegal immigrants to leave the country. Conversely, 79 percent of Democrats want illegal immigrants to be allowed to apply for citizenship.
Likewise, 77 percent of Republicans favor the wall while only 11 percent do so.
While an earlier poll showed considerable opposition for sanctuary cities, this poll shows a sharp opposition to the basic components of the Trump immigration policy. That may add to the unease of many Republican members in forging ahead beyond the plan to deport “criminal illegal immigrants.”
The poll numbers on the executive order are closer though a majority still opposed the order.
With the recent assassination of Kim Jong Un’s half brother in a Malaysian airport & using deadly VX nerve agent, should be a wakeup call for stricter screening.
Public opinion does not trump the rule of law. Public opinion is against the IRS, but the IRS remains because it is law.
The insanity of those rooting for Bonnie and Clyde is mocking the rule of law, and those aiding and hiding illegals need to be prosecuted.
Same poll that had Trump down by double digits the day before the election. Lies, damned lies and polls.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/cbs-news-poll-state-of-the-race-the-day-before-election-day/ The CBS poll had her ahead by 4 points the day before the election. Since she won by two points and the margin of error was 3 points their polling was spot on. Bannon’s mouthpieces clearly are spreading fake news again.
Do we HAVE to go through this again? Remove two states and it was a rout. Plus, all your racists, who voted for a black man in ’09 and ’12 wouldn’t even vote for that satan-on-earth.
California has the sixth largest economy in the world. Why do Trumpkins want to discard them? Guess they do want to turn this into a third world country.
Look at our exports, we are turning into a third world country.
The majority of every non-white ethnicity voted for Obama in both elections so if anyone is racist I don’t think it’s the blacks, latinos, asians, Jews, and native Americans
As for removing 2 states, you could easily remove 2 smaller states and we’d have a president Gore and a president Kerry as well so what’s your point. The innovation and agriculture in Cali is helping the US thrive. I can think of several red states that require significant government assistance.
well I certainly was watching that night…. and nearly all news presenters, election night analysts went close to catatonic at 6:05 PM in the West…. It was hilarious to watch. I enjoyed it very much! After rolling glee and full anticipation of an Hillary win all day and for weeks. The crew at CBS, in particular!, was down for the count, almost unable to speak. Same on PBS … only Amy Walters was able to function as a actual reporter/political analyst. And the same thru the channels and outlets. Panic was in full view.
I suspect Hillary knew something (but i doubt she really believed it could happen) because she cancelled her fireworks show 5 days prior to election, her team saying something vague and odd about how it was not a time for ostentatious display. LOL
I stand corrected. I was thinking of an NBC poll that had him down 11. Mea culpa.
Fake poll. They polled only illegals!
A trustworthy poll shows 80% of Americans
approve of President Trump’s Immigration policy.
I will never trust a CBS poll.
Only trust Kelly Ann Polls.
MS13 Gang in 41 states.
https://youtu.be/UZAOKllzqwY
The poll is bogus. Americans elected Trump and then immediately changed their minds? C’mon……
Less that one third of eligible voters voted for Trump. 92 million voters chose not to vote for either of those legally compromised candidates. Doubt there was a did you vote screen.
I saw this yesterday Autumn. Tells you what the MSM thinks of themselves. Interesting article by Ron Paul though that states young people aren’t falling the Russian-Boris Bannonov trick. People need to turn out this crap at a faster rate.
The next poll will be 2020 for Pres and Vice Pres 2018 for some senators and representatives.
Those are the only polls that count.
CBS is one poll and one generally supporting the side that lost in the elections which means it’s a poll of losers in the only poll that counts the electoral college poll.
There are over 1,000 polls. Realclear used to list all of them and most shutdown after the election or are not being reported but CBS shows a Pres approval in the 30’s and Rassmussen at 52 as of today 23rd Feb.
As for immigration realclear shows not one poll more specific than general direction of country, approval of congress approval of president. Most are the same five that selected with a 15% requirement debaters in the Presidential races effectively shutting down most campaign efforts. As for CBS on immigration? It won the cherry of the week for one sided polling. by coming in third. Rassmussen came in number one and neither one had anything to do with immigration.
Rasmussen showed 52% in favor of the President’s actions
Harvard HArris showe 80% in favor of the President’s actions.
“In the same Harvard-Harris poll, a 52 percent majority backs an executive order that hires thousands of new border agents and withholds federal funding from so-called sanctuary cities. Individually, those issues enjoy even more support. Three-in-four Americans say they support “increased border patrol,” and four-in-five oppose sanctuary cities. Many local officials in liberal urban enclaves have announced their intention to double-down on ‘sanctuary city’ policies as a form of resistance to Trump’s agenda. In doing so, they’ve chosen extremely weak political terrain on which to fight. Their uber-lefty constituents may be more supportive, but the country is with Trump on this one.
Poll: A good majority of Americans oppose sanctuary cities, and …
http://www.theblaze.com/…/poll-a-good-majority-of-americans-oppose-sanctuary-cities-and...
2 days ago – According to a new poll by Harvard–Harris Poll given to The Hill has discovered that Americans overwhelmingly oppose sanctuary cities.
As for polls real clear still list the polls of Nov 7th showing Hillary at plus 3 percent. but were only counting popular but not so much attention paid to electoral.
The next poll will be 2020 for Pres and Vice Pres 2018 for some senators and representatives.
Those are the only polls that count.
Fortunately for us Cherry’s don’t ripen in November
As for an opinion, I have to wonder at what point politicians actually care more about the general welfare of citizens over foreigners illegally remaining in their country.
I suppose the politicians care most about those who actually vote.
I understand your point yet disagree. I would venture to say that incumbent, senior politicians care more about those who pump money into their election campaigns than the individuals who cast votes, whether they be individuals, corporations, organizations, or foreign governments. The voter for these is more of a statistical abstract useful to arrive at an election result.
They care about donating business people who employ illegals at below market rates and don’t give hoot one about national interests.
That is a good question. An easy answer too. The government has helped (starting with the Clintons) to hollow out our manufacturing base and turn us back into a 19th century economy. Snowflakes better wake up and quit being offended and examine the real pressing issues. But, then again, people seemed to think Obama was great, so maybe they won’t mind bailing out the wall street bankers again. I guess until a loaf of bread gets to be $15, then maybe they’ll become concerned. Maybe…
I have concern as to the conclusions derived from the poll. Some elements follow:
Q5. Do you think temporarily banning people from these countries will make the United States safer from terrorism by preventing unwanted people from entering the country, less safe from terrorism by making people around the world angry at the U.S., or will temporarily banning people from these countries have no effect on the United States’ safety from terrorism? [Emphasis mine]
This question introduces an outside element that creates an impression that is very likely to steer a response outside a generic question. The use of “making people around the world angry” it will bias the result at the intermediate level for the “less safe response choice.” It is poorly written to gather statistical information. Polling questions should introduce one question and several clear choices that contain no elements. The several choices should be: more safe; less safe; or no effect; or unknown. There are too many elements in the question and the answers draw upon a subject in of themselves.
Q6. As you may know, Donald Trump’s executive order also temporarily bans any refugees, those forced to leave their country due to violence or persecution, from entering the United States. Do you approve or disapprove of temporarily banning refugees from entering the U.S.? [Emphasis mine]
Introduces an emotional element into the question by defining refugees along a particular bias.
Q8. When the U.S. government is deciding which immigrants to admit to this country, should priority be given to people who are Christians, or should the U.S. government treat all potential immigrants the same regardless of religion?
Q9. Do you think the U.S. should temporarily ban all Muslims from other countries from entering the United States, or not?
Question 8 sets a condition in the second element that can influence the answer for Question 9. (Treat everyone the same then Ban all Muslims)
Total Respondents 1,019
Weighted / Unweighted
Total Republicans 289/269
Total Democrats 349 / 322
Total Independents 381 / 428
I’m curious as to why these are weighted and why the independents are weighted downward disproportionately more
This poll was conducted by telephone February 1-2, 2017 among a random sample of 1,019 adults nationwide.
The location of the individuals polled matters. Were they concentrated in urban centers and what was the methodology to arrive at uniformity?
I would be curious to see how much this aligns or varies from other polls paid for by other sources.
Thanks for the analysis Darren. Like others above, I had to question the veracity of a poll from the MSM.
It’s called “push polling” Darren. And Sleazeball political campaigns have used them for generations. The MSM have become a wholly owned subsidiary of the DNC and they push poll constantly.
President Bannon has declared war on the media.
Here:

“Look among the least of you for there am I.”
I don’t feel that I have the right to enter, and reside in, a country that I entered illegally.
There are probably some countries that probably actually enforce laws against illegal entry/ residency.
When somebody explains to me why, as an American, I should be able to illegally go into other countries, then their beliefs that others should be in our country illegally may carry more weight.
Because in the past given the level of violence from where they’re fleeing many of these individuals would be allowed to claim asylum here. Now it’s just too many who would flee their homes if given the opportunity. Many of them are children who have been here for some time and women. New immigrants coming here have been less of a problem especially considering the record numbers deported by Obama annually. The dream act was supposed to cover those who were in school or the military but congress refused to pass it. Trumps policies for expedited removal etc broadened ICEs scope such that even without a firm policy change the atmosphere shift is enough that they can remove just about anyone without a valid Visa, birth certificate or green card regardless of their time here, family, health etc without fear of legal challenges etc. Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras etc are our neighbors in our local sphere of influence, much like the U.K. with Germany, France, Sweden. It would be unwise to just build a wall and ignore what goes on south of the border. We have a duty to address the root cause of why people are fleeing locally and not just send them to their deaths & throw up a wall that individuals fleeing and cartels alike will find ways around as it rapidly worsens.
Ck07….
There may be some legimate “asylum” seekers fleeing the “cartels”.
It’s far more likely that most of the illegal aliens in the U.S. today are not here because of cartel violence.
If there are cases that you know of where the deportation of illegal aliens puts their life at risk, point them out.
I’d be interested in knowing how many deported illegal aliens even CLAIM that deportation puts their lives at risk.
Maybe the “sanctuary cities” could provide documentation of the illegal “asylum seekers”.
But I wouldn’t count on it…..those responsible for those sanctuary cities don’t give a rat’s ass why the illegals came.
For them, it is an overriding principle of thwarting immigration laws that drives the sanctuary city policy.
Well specific cases like the woman that was just pulled from a hospital or you mean returning people to violence? I’ve only met one guy ICE caught so specific examples 1st hand won’t be possible. I do however know of the huge levels of violence in El Salvador and Honduras. Mexico is also nothing to scoff at: http://www.insightcrime.org/news-briefs/figures-shows-violence-in-mexico-rising-and-spreading
However even I was surprised to learn there are more Mexicans leaving the US for Mexico than Mexicans entering the US (still Central America is where many are fleeing and it seems violence, as well as poverty, are at the root): http://www.borgenmagazine.com/10-facts-about-mexican-refugees/
Ck 07…
– Some refugees probably are fleeing widespread crime in countries like El Salvador.
It would be interesting to see how many refugees attempted, or would accept, refugee status in neighboring Central American countries.
Traveling through Mexico to reach the U.S. is not as “geographically practical” as relocating in a neighboring Central American country like Costa Rica, or Nicaragua.
These are relatively safe countries without the problem of a language barrier.
I think there was a U.S. funded program to at least temporarily locate those seeking asylum in Costa Rica, pending U.S. review of their cases.
Not sure if that program has been carried over into the current administration.
“There’s a simple solution. Fine the employers of the ‘illegals’ and the country will empty by itself.”
Unfortunately, you are subscribing to the fallacy that everybody just wants an honest day’s work. Serious flaw in logic. Here’s a tip from your friendly Paramedic-blogger:
1. Tune in to Police Call on your computer
2.Click on any large city in America
3. Listen to what the 911 operators are relaying to the cops and medics in the field
4.Pay particular attention to the physical descriptions of the hoodlums, as told by witnesses on the line
5. Let us know when you begin to see a pattern or two
Trust me: all one needs to know to get to the root of a whole ton of our social problems, can be learnt by listening to what goes on after dark on the mean streets.
We have been preposterously stupid in thinking that singing “We Are The World” will homogenize our neighborhoods. Not gonna happen.
Just listen to the scanners. It ain’t exactly rocket science.
I agree that fining employers of undocumented workers will not cause them to flee in droves since going back is a death sentence for many. However it’s your other implicit conclusion that we need to stereotype people based on physical description that I take issue with. This is a society that separated people based on race and taught many they were superior or inferior a little over 50 years ago. A time when many, including our resident blogger were still alive. And it’s not as if Brown vs Board immediately changed everything everywhere. How long did it take for significant change to come to the redskins? How many places as close as middle Virginia were still practicing segregation along with clan rally protests to integration as recently as the 70s? How many minorities were being beat like Rodney King that didn’t get caught on camera until very recently? When studies show black preschoolers are 4x more likely to be suspended for acting out than their white counterparts it doesn’t seem to be a lack of stereotyping that’s at issue. We’re subconsciously telling groups they’re destined to become criminals from an early age and treating them as such. It won’t stop everyone from succeeding but playing the sheer numbers game, those that wouldn’t succumb to the environment anyway are far more likely to when treated like they don’t belong anywhere else. I’m a strong believer in nurture/nature. It sounds like you trust the reverse
Yeah, and ‘polls’ showed HRC would beat Mr.T in a landslide.Turns out that the fake news pollsters were loading their contact people Dem heavy.
Guest worked program any one? Just make sure the workers go back home & get in line to become citizens. The front door citizenship process badly needs over hauling, but through the front door is the only way to let them in. It doesn’t say “Give me your huddled masses…” on the northern border. That’s at the front door.
We really need to cut all immigration way back till we get the economy rolling & jobs start to show up. At 20 TRILLION in debt, we cannot afford an onslaught of new people. At present we have a serious labor glut & job shortage. All that isn’t fixed yet.
How about the welfare roles? Anyone check out Strategy, a book by Cloward & Piven? We cannot afford to continue the 0bama & previous prez’s legacy of increased welfare for illegals or anyone else. The New Deal & Great society were failures. They did give us bigger more centralized government, so to the left they were a success.
http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2009/02/the_clowardpiven_strategy_of_e.html
The whining libs want illegals in so they can build an insurmountable voting block. They do that & it’s Hello North American Union! Goodbye US Constitution & Bill of Rights! Those are on life support as it is. The judicial ban on Mr. T’s pause shows us that. Ninth Circuit. 80% overturned…hmmm
Trade schools should be an option. College can be a good option, but there should be other choices. Besides, college is now more of a prog leftist indoctrination center than a center of learning. College is becoming more a place free speech goes to die than a place to get an education.
Muslims & Islam? Just do as Japan, China & Angola in that regard. Don’t forget, ISIS has said they would load the refugees with their own. Nothing like a Trojan Horse eh?
SamFox
Here in the wild West those people are needed. Document them.
Yeah..I don’t buy it.
I have not wandered thru the details of the poll but in general, I trust media polls the least. Meant only to drive chatter, imo. MMV
Who did they ask, what did they ask and how did they ask?
Do you all remember this from CBS:
The journalists at CBS This Morning on Tuesday effectively declared the presidential race over, predicting 341 electoral votes for Hillary Clinton in a likely “blowout.” Citing the CBS News battleground tracker, Gayle King marveled, “The way you’ve got this now, 341 electoral votes for Hillary Clinton. You only need 270 to win. That suggests a blowout.”
Immigration is such a hypocritical issue! There’s a simple solution. Fine the employers of the ‘illegals’ and the country will empty by itself. On the other hand, who will do all the menial work in the fields, homes, and orchards? Will you see any ‘Americans’ line up?
Agree and cutoff all government assistance. Knock off some of the safe houses where they hide the pregnant ones waiting to drop their litter so we can’t ship them back. As for the work in the fields develope equipment that will do most of the work as we have done in every other industry or pay more for lettuce. Maybe some American kids should stop thinking college is the answer and look closely at carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.
