Paris Mayor Calls For Banning Of Black Only Event In Paris

Anne_Hidalgo,_février_2014With Harvard holding its first black-only graduation this year and various schools creating black only dorms and safe spaces, “separate but equal” seems to be on the resurgence in America (something I wrote about ten years ago).  However, Paris mayor, Anne Hidalgo, has stood firm against all forms of discrimination and barred the black feminist festival in the French capital because it is “prohibited to white people.”  She said that racial discrimination in any form or for any purpose will not be tolerated.

nyan_lgThis was to be the first Nyansapo Festival and would have July 28-30  at a cultural centre in Paris as “an event rooted in black feminism, activism, and on a European scale.”  Nyansapo means “wisdom, ingenuity, intelligence and patience.”  In this case, it also means segregation on the basis of race.

  1. The matter is not as straight forward as it might seem from a perspective in the US.

As long as an event such as this is not fostered by a government agency or politician the organizers of a meeting such as this in the United States are free to associate with whomever they choose and as exclusively as they desire. If they want to make it open to only black feminists then that is their right.

Yet just because it is constitutional for them to organize such events, the increasing prevalence of such Separate but Equal from a sociological standpoint is damaging to society if permitted to grow in scale beyond that of simple meetings and instead become common in many institutions of society. Separate but Equal did not work in the past, it will not work in the future.

Of course we see in some institutions of higher education the trend toward segregation is increasing and I see true unconstitutionality of the actions of government agencies in organizing, or at least permitting, such discrimination and that needs to stop now.

I am beginning to realize that an approach to these individuals who insist on being given special treatment or safe spaces is to simply shun them. If they actually want to be separate from society, then they can suffer the benefits of their isolationism.

I concur, but I’m not sold on the idea that “shunning” should be the preferred solution.

  2. Wait…I think Abraham Lincoln had an opinion on this very subject. Let’s see what old “Crazy Abe” has to say now.

Oops! It looks like Abe just said, “I TOLD YOU SO!”

“If all earthly power were given me,” said Lincoln in a speech delivered in Peoria, Illinois, on October 16, 1854, “I should not know what to do, as to the existing institution [of slavery]. My first impulse would be to free all the slaves, and send them to Liberia, to their own native land.” After acknowledging that this plan’s “sudden execution is impossible,” he asked whether freed blacks should be made “politically and socially our equals?” “My own feelings will not admit of this,” he said, “and [even] if mine would, we well know that those of the great mass of white people will not … We can not, then, make them equals.”5

    1. Interesting speech you don’t hear much talk about Lincoln and repatriation of slaves to their own lands. I have read this before but I guess it’s not a politically correct topic. Wonder if that would have been his plan all along, Liberia or some other similar land?

  3. Wasn’t there black only up to the 60’s and southern whites took heat over that? Guess the blacks can’t make of their minds?

  4. When I was in college, decades ago, I thought that our country and indeed the world was evolving into a color-blind, ethnic-blind tolerant and progressive society. Back then, the lessons of Nazi Germany and the Civil War seemed all too clear.

But, what are we coming to now? If we self-segregate into pockets and areas of extreme homogeneity, how could this possibly result into a stable and peaceful life? Or would tribe X inevitably want to exterminate tribe Y? I just don’t understand why Yugoslavia fell apart, why the Hutus nearly wiped out the Tutsis in Rwanda, and on and on.

It is a good thing I’m getting old. Not sure the future will be very pretty.

  5. Interesting article. I thought about black Americans who moved to Paris – James Baldwin, Josephine Baker, Eartha Kitt, Richard Wright, Nina Simone – to flee racist segregation. The French have always valued artists no matter their ethnicity. Now it seems that identity politics has infected them as well. Cheers for the mayor!

    1. Baldwin could have ‘fled’ ‘racist segregation’ by moving to New Hampshire. He decamped to France for a variety of reasons (personal taste, self-aggrandizement) and decayed intellectually while he was there.

        1. You fancy they had Jim Crow laws and Bull Connor in New Hampshire? They did not. New Hampshire has only small cities, very cold weather, and indifferent public works. For many blacks, it would be a disconcerting environment because there are not many blacks there. (There weren’t in France in 1955, either). Ya pays ya money and ya takes ya choice.

          1. Born and raised in New England, and worked in New Hampshire. No Jim Crow laws, but rednecks as red necked as any southern good ol’ boy. New Hampshire was the first New England state I encountered w/ a lot of country music radio stations. While blacks did leave Boston, Providence, Hartford, etc. to get out the depravity and find more stable environs, few chose NH., for the reasons you state but also because of knowing they were not wanted, more so than any New England state. Well, maybe Maine is tied w/ NH.

New England is not what many people think. There are no more racist people in this country than in Boston’s Southie. And they all vote Dem! I tell people in the Midwest, South, etc. that I was born and raised in CT, and they picture the pastoral, wealthy suburbs of NYC. I grew up in an ethnic, blue collar, factory town.

            1. They have country music stations in Upstate New York, and lots of rural wage-earners. No, it’s not an uncongenial place for blacks. It’s just lonely.

  6. On this issue, good for France. Why is common sense a rarity nowadays?

    1. Why is prohibiting people from associating according to their lights ‘common sense’?

  7. Cheers for the mayor. I am sure she is not making friends with the national government, but she controls Paris, they don’t.

    1. Paul, The girly leaders of Canada and France have a budding bromance. If I were a Hoser or Frog I would be mortified. Thank God we are citizens of the greatest country ever, USA!

      1. Both could flip the Putin loving porkster even though he out weighs them by a ton.

    2. It’s none of her business who they invite to their festival. You want an integrated festival, organize one.

      1. dss – it is the mayor’s business if it is on city property.

        1. No, it is not. The agora is the agora – for everyone’s use. The municipal government’s business is to adjudicate between competing users of public space. The municipal government also has an interest in public order maintenance. As long as the space is open for business, as long as nothing else is scheduled already on that day, and as long as there is no reason to believe riots or impediments to traffick will ensue, her position is wrong.

Were they to propose demonstrating in the mayor’s office suite or in the hallways of a public housing project, that would be a different matter. Neither are loci for public meetings.

          1. dss – remember that American Civics book I recommended for issac? I think you could use a refresher as well. 😉

          2. “and as long as there is no reason to believe riots or impediments to traffick will ensue, her position is wrong.”

            Plain BS.

This is plainly illegal. The mayor has to act. There is no debate here.

      2. “It’s none of her business who they invite to their festival”

You somehow managed to miss the whole point. This is segregation, this is wrong and this is ILLEGAL.

      1. Squeky – I was in Tucson, AZ visiting museums, presidios, forts and botanical gardens. Saw a lot of great stuff. 🙂

  8. Like NickS said, the mayor didn’t get the Democratic Party Memo that only white people can be racist, and that black people certainly can’t be racist, because their DNA is maybe different or something? Or is the Melanin??? Anyway, the current Main Stream Left Wing Theory is that black people, Hispanic people, Muslims, women, Native American, queers of the various ilks, maybe even Asians whenever they remember them, etc. – these protected groups can’t be guilty of racism, or reverse sexism, or heterophobia, or anything like that.

Because protected groups are never responsible for nothing. They dindu nuffin. Things are only done to them. That is how a group like Black Lives Matter can priss around without people laughing at them, because the fact that 99% of murdered blacks are murdered by a negro-with-a-gun/knife/hammer/baseball bat/machete/bag of grits etc. is not something decent people are supposed to mention.

  9. One can only imagine if there had been a white’s only or Christians only event. The same people decrying the mayor’s actions would be screaming bloody murder over holding such an event.

    1. The Pilgrmage to Chartres is a ‘Christians-only’ event, and favored by devotees of the Traditional Latin Mass. And that is as it should be.

  10. Excellent and cheers for the Mayor of Paris. This racist, sexist, bigotry crap will not change until it’s not tolerated by decent people regardless of all backgrounds. And when is the US Government going to stop being a proponent of racism when they ask the usual stupid mixed series of ethnic, cultural, political, geographical and colors on every form? I usually ignore it or write “This is a racist (or whatever) question. You should be ashamed for asking.”

  11. I think if we don’t begin educating young people in the way that their parents and social media have utterly and completely failed to do, this could get very ugly later. We are talking about a global generation that endorses fascism and ‘any means necessary’. It may sound alarmist, but this, combined with that generation’s all encompassing sense of entitlement, could easily cause society to collapse if we don’t nip it in the bud. Enough is enough, this epic failure of parenting and education must cease, and cease SOON. These kids have dragged us backward a century or more.

  12. OT — The Leftist MSM never fails to impress with the breadth and depth of its lies, deceptions, prevarications, and frauds. A perfect example of this is the case of Jeremy Joseph Christian, who recently was accused of murdering two men and leaving another critically wounded with a knife while yelling anti-Muslim epithets. According to the MSM, Christian has been variously “reported” as being an Islamophobe, a racist, a right-wing extremist, a Trump supporter, etc. You get the picture.

The following is a typical example from a local Leftist rag called the Portland Mercury, where the alleged crimes took place:

But what are the real facts? Jeremy Christian–far from the persona the MSM invented–is actually . . . . a LEFTIST, and, in particular a Bernie Sanders supporter! That’s right, this is simply a case of one Leftist attacking other Leftists. The reality is that even if Leftists succeeded in wiping out all non-Leftists from the planet, they would still be busy slaughtering other Leftists, arguing that they are more “Leftist” than other competing “Leftists.” Such is the vile nature of Leftism.

Anyway, here’s an article that actually does a little genuine reporting, showing actual facts about Jeremy Christians. Although it’s anathema to actually report any important facts in the MSM, other media outlets don’t hate facts with quite the same passion as the MSM:

  13. “Yet, many academics and students in the United States are readily embracing segregated housing, schools…….”
It’s called Section 8 – HUD…da project and inner city schools. We see how both of them work.

Rosa Parks turned over? Nah, but George C. Wallace sure has a big Damn grin.

I bet some are trying to deal with the real deeper issue….now how do we get them to get on the boats?

      1. Got it. We brought them here in shackles on slave boats and now you want to sent them back. Do you want them shackled and tortured again?

    1. If you were to trace the pedigree of a typical native-born black back to the point where half his ancestors were born here and half in West Africa, you’d generally have to walk back six or seven generations. American blacks have no particular affinity for West Africans apart from phenotype. I have no clue why you fancy it would be the least be just or utile for anyone to deport them to West Africa.

    2. There are about 40 million blacks in the United States. About 3 million are beneficiaries of Section 8 and allied programs.

      1. DSS

I take it that you resent Federal/state aid for poor people, but laws that benefit homeowners are just peachy – in your world view, right?

        1. Neither. The point of my post was perfectly plain and needs no explanation. When you’re done poring over the latest in 9/11 truther literature, you can give it some thought.

  14. Clamping down on those who, through ‘free speech’, attempt to divide can be seen as an infringement on the sacred right to say whatever, whenever, however, etc. It can also be seen as governing for the moment, for the conditions, for the safety and advancement of the people. This mayor is governing in a degree of crisis. Good for her. If she obstructs some right wing fascist who piggy backs hatred and destruction on top of ‘free speech’, she will also be governing intelligently, in the best interests of the people. Mindless touting of rights and privileges is the surest route to losing them. Americans can and should learn from their peers. Consider the hatred greased campaign of our Buffoon in Chief and you will find the result of mindless adherence to the sacred. Most countries are not wealthy and strong enough to afford an experiment of the ridiculous like America is undertaking with Trump. That’s why they make more level headed decisions, govern for the reality and not the illusion, have higher qualities of life, less murders, better education, better and vastly less expensive health care, etc. America is the greatest overall country on earth when it comes to a lot of things, one of them being wasted opportunities and mindless beliefs.

    1. America has no “peers.” All countries and peoples are, to varying degrees, envious of this great nation. And that is at the source of most of the conflict in the world today, from ISIS to whiny, polemic spewing, socialists from Canada.

      1. NS

“no peers”. Not necessarily a good thing when you consider that:
Deplorable US history is belligerent, ruthless, immoral, defiant of rule of law principles and democratic values while feigning high-mindedness.

America glorifies wars and violence in the name of peace, perpetually at war with invented enemies, pacifism considered unpatriotic, civil and human rights obstacles to its imperial aims.
        Steve Lendman blog.

He goes into the details of our country’s most well-known escapades – always for the benefit of the Empire, and war profiteers.

            1. Wisdom from the man promoting 9/11 truther bushwah.

  15. It’s refreshing to see someone take a stand against segregation of any kind. I doubt having a huge, public black only space will help mend any racial tensions. These people make color a bigger issue than it is in 2017.

    1. She can take all the ‘stands’ she wants. Why is it her business to prevent other people from gathering on their own terms?

      1. dss – since WWI France has been proud to be color-blind. Black and white troops fought together in the trenches and died in the trenches. Unlike the Americans who made black troops haul supplies.

        1. So what? This is a collection of private citizens, not l’Armee de la Republique.

  16. Tribalism is growing worldwide, so we shouldn’t be surprised. But race is only part of this partisan war. Our cultural leaders want monolithic tolerance 24/7, and will be the guardians of everything they judge to be culturally unacceptable. We are expected to stand in awe of such virtuous beings. But wait…could it be they only want the power to control our lives? Naaahhh!

  17. Another time, another place, perhaps an organized people can re-institute freedom of contract and freedom of association in law. The municipal government has as its function order maintenance and adjudicating claims over common property resources. That’s it. If this dame doesn’t care for black-only events, nothing’s preventing her from not attending (and in any case, they don’t want her honky self around).

  18. if she doesn’t get her mind right soon, however, she won’t be allowed into a Wonder Woman screening.

  19. She obviously didn’t get the memo. The cult left will “get her mind right” soon.

    1. She’s a member of the Parti-Socialiste, or the left, or progressives, or evolving. I’ll take the extreme left if it has to come with the evolution of society against the extreme right any day. The extreme left is a joke that is under fire and can’t hold up. The extreme right is vacant between the ears and armed to the teeth. It seems that progressing is what the world is doing, except for some enclaves, in places like Idaho and Mississippi, etc. Trump says it all.
