Yesterday, Republicans lined up to denounce the insulting tweets posted by President Donald Trump as degrading for the Office of the President and damaging to the GOP agenda. However, this morning Trump was again on Twitter calling Joe Scarborough “Crazy” and Mika Brzezinski “dumb as a rock.” He also unleashed attacks on CNN and the media. GOP leaders and 71 percent of the public have said that these tweets are harming his presidency, but Trump continues unabated. The fact that the President would resume name-calling after his own party leaders begged him to stop is a matter a considerable concern among Republicans.
This morning the President tweeted:
“Orange Moron” is a good name for the Donald. “Blond Bitch” is a good name for Hillary.
Here’s hoping “Jack Ruby” is a good name for you. Got that color thing going for it.
Yeah, I thought about a name change after the Oswald shooting and after I croaked and went to Cloud 8. When I went to Cloud 9 and began these internet conversations I decided that a Cloud 9 angel could keep his Earthling name. On tuesdays I get called Ruby Tuesday. I don’t know where that comes from. Is that a restaurant chain or somesuch? There is a guy up here who reads the blog on my screen who won’t comment himself. He calls himself The Choice Not An Echo and his first name is Barry. He won’t give out his last name from planet Earth. He does not like President Orange Guy.
And another thing. Every Republican over 30 remember George Bush behaving just like Professor Turley wants Trump to behave. Always “Presidential”, never fought back, always “above it all”. And Bush got called Chimpy McHitler, and even worse. Result: His supporters became demoralized, his opponents emboldened. He left office with the lowest POTUS rating ever.
But I’m sure every Democrat and RINO admired Bush’s ability to get beaten to trashed and insulted without offering a word of protest. What a good loser! So why can’t Trump do that? Maybe ’cause he wants to win.
To paraphrase. It’s not President Trumps job to act Presidential whatever that is or worry about ratings and the rest of that political garbage. It is his job to make the other side act like losers and like political garbage.
Starting with those who rejected US Citizenship and their Oaths of Office in favor of allegiance to a foreign ideology. Having crossed the line to mental unstability I’m in favor of all of them undergoing mandatory psychiatric evaluation and if they pass the therapy let them sign up to immigrate to the USA. About theyear 3,000
But being realistic there ae consequences to losing elections as well as running half backed felonies like leaks, resistance movements and palace coups. Guantanamo might be a better choice
If Trump isn’t more careful with his Tweeting maybe Joe Biden will have Mitt Romney go ahead and put him “back in chains” with all the black people. And then Maxine Waters will exile him to a remote island along with the 700 Billion people Republicans kicked off health care and left to die. And then the island will capsize. And that will be the end of Trump and the 700 billion who lost their health care because of Trump. So he’d better watch out.
Sigh. How many times do we have to go over this? The MSM and Democrat Congressman have called President Trump a Nazi, traitor, Cock****er, crazy, stupid, and laughed about his supposedly “small penis” and incestuous relationship with daughter. Oh and “joked” about assassinating & impeaching him.
Maybe the MSM and Democrats should start having some “respect for the office” and Trump can then reciprocate.
As a matter of fact that might be a pretty good idea.
Maybe we could crowdfund a reward for the best evidence that Trump can tweet and govern at the same time.
Just think, this blog has over twenty million readers. If only half of us gave a measly dollar we would have millions for reward money.
We could have notices all over social media: Reward – $10,000,000 – Reward for evidence leading to proof that Donald Trump can tweet and govern at the same time!!!
All entries become the property of the ad hoc committee for Proof that Donald Trump can tweet and govern at the same time.
Proof shall use standard rules of logic and verifiable facts – only.
Winner is determined and $10,000,000 is disbursed at the sole discretion of the ad hoc committee for Proof that Donald Trump can tweet and govern at the same time.
Within 90 days of awarding the $10,000,000 Reward that Donald Trump can tweet and govern at the same time the committee will publish a report documenting the proof that Donald Trump can tweet and govern at the same time.
In the even that there is no proof that Donald Trump can tweet and govern at the same time The Reward of $10,000,000 will be used to fund support centers to help disconsolate trolls adjust to the reality that Donald Trump cannot tweet and govern at the same time.
I would like to be the first to call for nominations for the board of directors and chair of the ad hoc committee for Proof that Donald Trump can tweet and govern at the same time.
I’ve been bored of directors for a long time. And I’m very good at distributing other people’s money. Why not me? Dylan Roof should be the chair because many people have said that he deserves the chair!
“I’ve been bored of directors for a long time. And I’m very good at distributing other people’s money. Why not me?”
I have no problem with self nominations. You clearly know the nominee better than anyone. Presumably you can inform us better than anyone else of his many fine qualities.
A worthy nomination indeed.
“the committee will publish a report documenting the proof that Donald Trump can tweet and govern at the same time.”
That requirement leaves out the entire left wing extremist foreign ideologists.
If there is a slaughter of Republicans in the mid-term elections, it will be because Congress has made no progress in REPEALING Obamacare, tax reform, and improving the economy, NOT because of a few tweets by Trump. Contrary to the opinions of the media and must politicians, Americans in general, are not stupid enough to be distracted from what is important by an inane exchange of insults.
Operative word “IF” The democrats even if their shattered, splintered party came together just for that one day they don’t have enough votes and are losing more every day. Nov 8th the two party’s split about 60% and the winning voting bloc went with President Trump. Most of the left didn’t know how to vote and went for the national popularity polll. That group of cluster feathers trying to use the 25th Amendment is 49 votes behind from the get go. I doubt it will ever get out of the hopper or sent to committee but tabled. just as a slap in the face to remind the losing minority side what it means to be the losing minority.
“If there is a slaughter of Republicans in the mid-term elections, it will be because Congress has made no progress in REPEALING Obamacare, tax reform … ”
Of course, if there is a slaughter of Republicans in the mid-term elections it could also be that Republicans replace Obamacare with a health care system that drops coverage for millions and that also charges higher premiums for less coverage to those that can still afford insurance.
Or the slaughter of Republicans in the mid-term elections could be due to Republicans taking any savings to the government from the health care system and spending the savings on tax breaks for the top 1% and the top .1%.
There are at least a few plausible hypotheses why the Republican might encounter problems in the mid terms.
What really makes you mad? Watching those with income in the millions getting tax breaks worth hundreds of thousands of dollars?
Finding that you are paying higher premiums for less coverage?
Having some joker tell you that you have the freedom to choose a policy that you simply cannot afford?
What gets your goat? What makes you mad?
This is a good comment. s It looks like a “slaughter” of RepubliCons will occur in the 2018 mid-term elections. And, it is because of the party failures on medical care for all and the ties of the RepubliCons to capitalism in medical care.
The Orange Moron will probably keep tweeting. The Orange Moron will end up taking the blame. But after 2020 when the Orange Moron is gone the RepubliCon Party will not have come around to the notion that Americans need universal health care — as opposed to universal insurance. Requiring Americans to buy insurance so that they can go see a crooked doctor is not a good political platform.
Yammer, yammer.
Watching Trump tonight deliver his speech it occurred to me that he doesn’t care one bit what the political class or the glitterati think of him or his tweets or even if he sounds Presidential. He seems to care only about doing what he says he is going to do for the people he said he wants to help and to Hell with the detractors or haters. There’s something single-minded and likeable in that whether the pearl clutchers believe it or not. He doesn’t believe he answers to “our betters” and that infuriates them.
bingo
I like ‘glitterati’. Even my spellchecker likes it.
“I’m the President and you’re not.” DJT

Yup. P.T. Barnum was right.
This is to 727.

If you mean when ol’ PT said the public never tires of freak shows, I give you as proof positive of that truism.
Not close; you know the one….
He is delivering what he said he would. He will need to campaign of Republicans in 2018.
Why does anyone think that Trump’s tweets are “preventing” the GOP’s program? The health bill is politically toxic, with or without Trump. MitchMcC has his work cut out for him, but if anyone can inflict pain, he can. He’ll have to inflict a lot of it to get it through, but I give him 50-50.
It could be that Trump is only playing Sideshow Bob here, and that the agenda will have a better chance with the press totally occupied with the Clown in Chief.
The minute Trump stops tweeting, the press will resume telling the public that McConnell wants to feed their children to the rich, in pieces. How does that help McConnell? What’s frustrating is that even with all the air cover Trump is providing, the Congress still can’t make anything happen.
Only the minority party, near fifty votes behind in Representaties, cares about what the losers think or want.
Turley, I give a crap to what bipartisan swamp creatures have to say about Trump. Just thought to let you know that I find it funny that you suggest press and bipartisan attacks on Trump are of any value to people who do not live in a snob bubble . You don’t want to know what I think of these losers that you think are so important to bring them up in your article .
I like the two words: “snob bubble”. I will adopt those words in future comments. I think Jeb Bush was part of the snob bubble. Hillary too. Bernie also. There may be different snob bubbles in each party. The communist party in China has a snob bubble.
Psychologically the most underdeveloped people are so eager to patronize president . No shame about having supported a loser.
I think I know now why people are sticking by this fool, Its all the winning. Win, win win that’s all this fool does. All the way to his bank accounts and businesses.
Don’t ya just love it when Trump supporters stick up for this fool, and the only thing they can come up with is …BUT…BUT….Hillary…BUT….BUT……Obama. The USS Trump is at full steam and heading for the iceberg of all time. And it will all come down to nobody but nobody will admit they voted for the guy, just like they did for ole Dubya who?
I’m sorry your candidate couldn’t win despite having CNN and rest of the MSM doing more work for her than she did for herself . I’m sure it’s Russia , sorry your obama’s magic didn’t work on Putin ,if he did influence the American voters by exposing them to the truth about liberals . Guess Obama failed , as well , to knock down one person fighting all alone but working hard . Working hard is not something to be valued but it should be ridiculed and ignored as we can just blame our loss on Russia
The iceberg analogy is apt. One question is the location of the iceberg: Korea? Iran? Syria? Someplace else? I would not be surprised to see Russia and China simultaneously take military action directly or through proxies in response to something foolish done by Trump.
Regardless of the location of the iceberg, It is not likely to end well.
How old are you…or your son or grandson. Did they by any chance sign up for college loan money when they turned 18? Did you know that signature also changed their draft status from potential draftee to volunteered. Explain that to the offsprings and why the left worked so hard to keep the draft in force and ready to go. Then explain it this way. Son/Grandson it’s your turn to be cannon fodder.
I don’t think we use cannons anymore.
BiPartisan is just another term for cave to the left and used only by RINOs and other such sellouts. Same with cross partisanshiip calling the RINOs moderates and what ever else the single party system of government supporters dream up. It’s all Spin and Spin is just another word for Deceit.
Exactly ! Have you noticed how fraud news network always have McCain and other anti trumpers from GOP and pretends that it’s bipartisan sentiment . The only thing that the fraud news network does for me is to increase my disgust with the criminals on that network
The suspense intensifies. Klingon Prosecutor goes after Captain James T. Kirk. USS Enterprise.
The Klingon prosecutor questions Dr. McCoy about drinking Romulan booze. Dr. McCoy said “yes, we all did”. At the 2:15 mark in video.
Captain James Kirk tries to wiggle out questions from Klingon prosecutor.
I have a bi partisan turtle who hangs by my boat. He says he is RepubliCon on some issues and Dem on others. He voted for Trump but thinks he is an Orange Moron. How can a turtle know whats going on you might ask? Or vote? Well. Turtles are talked to by the CIA program on the TurtleLog machine. The turtle burps into the microphone and the computer has a voice burp back. Back and forth. The CIA guy has his machine set up next door here. So I get to understand the turtles and they me. They vote because they are involved in voting machine fraud. They are “not with the Russians too”. Turtle Dan thinks we need to stick with the Orange Moron and wait for someone else on the Dem side in 2020. If no one good comes up then its Orange Moron again. The CIA began this program many years ago with dolphins which they send into Cuba. The dolphins are involved here too. They have a DolphinLog machine. There is one for dogs called DogaLog Machine. One for Southern Humans called RedNeck Machine.
Folks, how do you think he got elected? This man is completely unconventional. I didn’t vote for him in a Republican primary. I didn’t think he would beat Hilary. Where is he today. He’s not worth 10 billion $ for being stupid.
Elected by a fluke.
He inherited his wealth and it is hard to waste away that much money.
He has no ability to govern. That is already abundantly clear.
David, you still don’t recognize that his father had money, but only a tiny fraction of what Trump is reported to have today. Fred Trump’s estate was divided among his heirs. He had 5 children. Try reading primary data instead of data that has been created so you can repeat it.
Tell us why you say Trump has NO ability to govern and show how that is true by using another president as an example.
All your statements are empty.
Worth between 2 and 4 billion and is highly leveraged, Most valuable asset is Trump Tower and that is worth about 2 billion.
Regarding the comment “he’s degrading the Presidency”, Hillary being charged with a crime would have been better? Read Gingrich book “Understanding Trump”. A good view, I’m told (haven’t read it yet) of the man. I voted for him and cringe. I wouldn’t change the vote. Congress is getting a piece of work ethic. If you can’t get the job done, then stay until it is. They have air conditioning and don’t need the entire month of August off! I agree with Rand Paul that we don’t need to pass one law. Ocare can be split in many ways. Does Ocare have an expiration date?
Yeah, Trump is teaching the work ethic: born to privilege, wealth, and connections, failed more than succeeded, panders to the mega wealthy, spends more time tit for tatting with the tabloids, golfs more than Obama when that was one of his points, lies beyond necessity, gross, a buffoon, etc, etc, etc, Yup, the ideal, the benchmark, puke.
The Troll of the Marxist Leninist faction back supporting return of the one party system of government aka The Government Party and behyond that he continues describing what he sees in the mirror but no ideas, nothing to offer just what the programmers instructed him’her to say on command …. until the next version.
Sum up Obama’s life for us.
Where do you get the idea he failed. If becoming a billionaire means failure we would all be better off as failures. I guess success in your world is Welfare.
He inherited his wealth.
Also his very bad manners…
Really? Are you trying to say his father was a multibillionaire and was wealthy enough to make each of his children a billionaire? Fred Trump (Donald Trump’s father) was a wealthy millionaire who died leaving an estate of 200-300 million before taxes. He had 5 children. Take a course in elementary math.
President Trump likely acknowledges that he stands on his father’s shoulders.
Generations of guitar players repeat the riffs of Eric Clapton to this day.
And so do they repeat All In All We’re Just Another Brick in the wall. We don’t need no education…..etc. A plaintive cry for help from children in a social promotion school begging for real teachers. So what did the Clapton Riffs tell us. Not the words…the riffs.
Absolutely, Donald Trump has strong family feelings and credits his father profusely. None the less Donald Trump is a different man who through his will far surpassed his father as far as the nature of his buidings and his wealth. Donald Trump gives a lot of credit to a lot of people. David Benson is just repeating the rubbish he reads without using his own innate intelligence to determine truth.
Though it is helpful to have a rich father we frequently see the offspring do poorly compared to their parents. Donald Trump made his own path using his own mind and inner strength. I don’t like everything he does and at times his behavior is a bit course for my liking, but I admire him and his abilities to move at his own way non ceasingly until he gets to where he wants to be.
Don’t know that mean bullying is going to get him where he wants to go in this setting. Moderate republicans are starting to take notice and he does need their votes to get legislation passed.
I don’t see him as bullying except for the fact he has power and you have none. What do you think leaders do? (You must never have been a substantial leader.) They use their power to move things in what they perceive to be a positive direction.
Can you provide significant examples of Trump bullying including what Trump was trying to do and how he actually bullied the other person?
https://twitter.com/maureendowd/status/881241829815054338
Some examples in the Dowd piece…..Trump even with some bullying failed to move TRUMPCARE.
I didn’t ask for Dowd’s opinion rather than yours and I was quite specific in my request. Give me your best example or two even if you paraphrase Dowd’s article so I have something tangible of yours, not someone else’s.
How did Trump bully with regard to healthcare?
Remember one item about Trump. Over the years there was talk of him running for President, but no one was sure whether he would run as a Democrat or Republican. He isn’t an ideologue. On healthcare he has been all over the map saying things that appealed to both the right and the left. I don’t think he has a firm understanding of the healthcare dilemma, but neither do our Congressmen or most of the pundits. The end product is desired by all, reasonable cost, access and quality. The ACA was one of the most inept bills past by Congress. There are all sorts of studies out there, but no one paid attention to anything that didn’t agree with what fulfilled their ideology. It was clear before the bill was passed why it wouldn’t work and why and how it would fail. Even Gruber (a major player in the passage of the bill) let us know after the fact that those creating the ACA knew that the promotion of the bill was a lie.
There are credible reports that Trump refused payment to contractors who provided products and services to his casinos claiming sub standard work. The small contractors accepted lowered payment rather than incur delay and legal costs.
The claim is there were few if any incidents of substandard performance and that Trump used the technique of withholding payment to extract concessions in the form of lower costs.
I think that comes pretty close to my idea of the use of economic power to bully.
bigfakemike, you do realize that in most major projects there are holdbacks. Many do a lot of puffing when they sell themselves and command a price to be paid. The contractor sets the ultimate price and the contract is decided by both the buyer and the seller. The contractor also knows that he may not be paid in full and since you state in Trump’s case that occurs frequently then they are well aware of the situation they are getting into.
Why do these contractors work for Trump if he bullies them. They don’t have to. Many have done projects over and over with him. Why? Because they recognize a profit. If one is not going to do the job specified be prepared to lose a portion of the holdback (not payment for completed services) If one does the job correctly be prepared for a lot of business.
If that is what you call bullying then I wouldn’t be concerned. A lot of people do shoddy work. Those that do really good work are more than happy to work for Trump if the deal is right. Trump watches the nickels and dimes like he should. That is one of the reasons people voted for him. We are 20 Trillion in debt. We need people like him watching out for our dollars.
” The contractor sets the ultimate price and the contract is decided by both the buyer and the seller.”
I do realize that many contracts allow for retention, or some other term, that provides a portion of funds be withheld pending successful completion of the work.
But in the cases that have been well documented there was no deciding of the price by the buyer and seller.
Both parties entered what seemed to be a usual mutually agreed contract agreement. Then as a business tactic Trump refused payment – when there was no reasonable dispute as to the quality of work performed.
This happened to numerous contractors. Some narrowly escaped bankruptcy through no fault of their own. I guarantee you these contractors would never do business with Trump again.
But don’t take my word for it. Read about it yourself here:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/06/09/donald-trump-unpaid-bills-republican-president-laswuits/85297274/
or here:
http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/06/donald-trump-lawsuit-contractors
There are many more articles like this. The problem is that the blog only allows two cites.
And yes I do believe that bullying occurs when a more powerful entity uses that power to take advantage of a much less powerful person of company – especially when there is no real issues except that Trump the bully wanted more than his fair share as allowed in the initial contract and had the money to hold off his creditors till they had to capitulate – the very essence of economic bullying.
So you can obfuscate with all that Econ 101 stuff about actors entering the market to reach an agreement based on self interest all you want to – but that that is not at all what happened in these cases. Not at all. Not a bit.
Here are a couple more articles about Trump the economic bully stiffing people and companies that did good work for him:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/10/31/donald-trump-is-refusing-to-pay-his-campaign-pollster-nearly-three-quarters-of-a-million-dollars/?utm_term=.f974781c6453
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-trump-bills-specialrepor-idUSKCN0T214Q20151113
These are all interesting reading. And there are many, many more articles with similar stores of Trump stiffing those who do good work for him.
Trump threatened to primary some republicans who did not want to vote for Trumpcare and the bullying backfired.
bigfakemike, do you know where contract disputes end up? In court. For a more accurate account of what happened one can go to the court records. No written contract you say? That means no meeting of the minds and that means a judge determines what should or should not be paid. If someone is running a solid business they don’t make a big investment without a contract and if someone with assets doesn’t pay they can get a judgement in court.
People can write whatever they want and they can even sensationalize what they write. It doesn’t have to even be accurate or represent what one might think the article represents. The alternative is a less senssationalized story. Go to the courts and see what actually happened. How many court cases were cited in those sensationalized stories?
Trump was not born to privilege. His father started his business from scratch. Donald worked at every part of the company, from the bottom up. I’m hoping people will learn how much they are not served by the media.
Snobs of the world think trump is so stupid , and don’t realize that if he is so stupid then what are they if they cannot even beat the “stupid”? Not only that , the brilliant liberals could not beat the “stupid” despite the provable collusion with our very dignified “press”? Who did nyt wpost CNN etc had supported throughout the campaign and still could not deliver her a victory against someone who mr Turley thinks is just insane ? Are you suggesting that 30/50 states are insane ? Why is their resistance to investigate voter fraud on part of the democrats ?
Because voter fraud is going well in states Hillary won!
I can only wonder how much fake votes were casted for her in the liberal ca
Haha! Uh, okay. Please post more of the same type of material.
This is to D-O.
The Republican Party in CA has been pushing to compare voter registration with social security death notifications. But no, Democrats can’t (won’t) any such comparison, They have their illegal and dead voters and don’t want to lose them! In an election a few years ago, 57 people registered at the same polling place, they also used the same address. The address was a burned down building.
First they stole stupid being too stupid to be creative. but you make a good point. If they really thinik he’s that stupid then why is he kicking their ass left and …..further left? Stupid is as stupid does and playing stupid in the street during rush hour traffic fits the left wing extremists perfectly Go back and tell Yoda Lykoff you failed again.
Yes, we are suggesting that 60 % of the country is stupid. And the election of Trump proves that.
Trump’s election proved the forgotten man got who he wanted for a change. I don’t believe
60% of this country are stupid. I do believe 100% of the media are dishonest!
Same thing they do every time. When things don’t go their way they blame their misfortunes on someone else usually with a big whining lie. besides the count was 55% President Trump and 45% whiny liberals.
Jonathan Turley is like the cat who jumps on the laser light , so predictable !
You think people care what bipartisansnobs have to say with no real life accomplishment but fooling people ?
Trump’s use of Tweets is actually part of his strategy, which is to trick Leftists dopes, dupes, and dolts, as well as theior RINO counterparts, into focusing intensely on the irrelevant–while Trump attempts to grapple with the real issues facing America. Trump is simply attempting to perform a magic trick on the Leftists and RINOs, misdirecting them from his real actions. So far, his tricks are working. And I’m glad they are.
Thus, while Trump has been out busy speaking with foreign leaders throughout the world working on huge trade deals to vitally improve the long-term as well as the short-term US economy and to promote prosperity here, virtually NONE of that has been captured by the mainstream media and all the other Leftists and RINOs. Instead, they obsess over such foolish trivia as “Mika and Joe”–two pointless wastes of time– thanks to a little of Trump’s misdirection. Trump doesn’t even mind improving their ratings as a result of his clever jabs and taunts. They will just lure even more Leftist dupes, dolts, dopes, and RINOs away from his activities while he promotes genuine pro-America trade deals throughout the world.
So, I’m glad that Trump is keeping up his tweets. They help to lure and trap the Leftists and RINOs into an abyss of stupidity (which is where they’re happiest anyway), while Trump works hard to make his trade deals happen, making America a better place. Consequently, it’s a win-win all around.
I’m stunned our “educated” class falls for the laser light so effortlessly. No wonder obama was able to fool them for two terms and they still have no clue how damaging he was for our country . I never saw such contempt for him when he was laughing and golfing soon after hearing the failure of his administration to save an American from getting beheaded.
On the other hand, President Barrack Hussein Obama was a respected member of the bar, graduated from Harvard, was the Editor in Chief of the Harvard Law Review, was a Constitutional Law Professor, was a United States Senator, a two-term President of the United States, has a prettier wife than you, and plays hoops better than you do.
This is to wow.
Mark M – the position of editor in cheif of the Law Review is an elected position. Stories are that he did not win until after an 8 hour session with the other voters. Besides, he was selected to the Review by his fellow students, not Law Professors and he only wrote one unremarkable article.
He was adjunct faculty teaching Constitutional Law and did rise to Senior Lecturer (whatever that position is). He was never a professor.
Obama graduated magna cum laude and that gpa entitled him to be on the law review.
frankly – x number of students are selected by the professors, x number are selected by their peers. Obama was in the peer selection group. So, basically, he did not make the first cut.
He had the required gpa.
frankly – am I incorrect in what I said?
You need to provide a source or link.
frankly – from Wikipedia.
The Harvard Law Review published its first issue on April 15, 1887, making it one of the oldest operating student-edited law reviews in the United States.[2] The establishment of the journal was largely due to the support of Louis Brandeis, then a recent Harvard Law School alumnus and Boston attorney who would later go on to become a Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States.
From the 1880s to the 1970s, editors were selected on the basis of their grades; the president of the Review was the student with the highest academic rank. The first female editor of the journal was Priscilla Holmes (1953-1955, Volumes 67-68);[3] the first woman to serve as the journal’s president was Susan Estrich (1977), who later was active in Democratic Party politics and became the youngest woman to receive tenure at Harvard Law School; its first non-white ethnic minority president was Raj Marphatia (1988, Volume 101), who is now a partner at the Boston law firm of Ropes & Gray;[4][5][6] its first African-American president was the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama (1991);[7][8] its first openly gay president was Mitchell Reich (2011);[9] its first Latino president was Andrew M. Crespo.[10] The first female African-American president, ImeIme Umana, was elected in 2017.[11]
Gannett House, a white building constructed in the Greek Revival style that was popular in New England during the mid-to-late 19th century, has been home to the Harvard Law Review since the 1920s. Before moving into Gannett House, the journal resided in the Law School’s Austin Hall.
Since the change of criteria in the 1970s, grades are no longer the primary basis of selection for editors. Membership in the Harvard Law Review is offered to select Harvard law students based on first-year grades and performance in a writing competition held at the end of the first year except for twelve slots that are offered on a discretionary basis.[12][13][14] The writing competition includes two components: an edit of an unpublished article and an analysis of a recent United States Supreme Court or Court of Appeals case.[12] The writing competition submissions are graded blindly to assure anonymity.[14][15] Fourteen editors (two from each 1L section) are selected based on a combination of their first-year grades and their competition scores. Twenty editors are selected based solely on their competition scores. The remaining twelve editors are selected on a discretionary basis. According to the law review’s webpage, “Some of these discretionary slots may be used to implement the Review’s affirmative action policy.”[12] The president of the Harvard Law Review is elected by the other editors.[13][16]
If Obama was transparent we would know more about him, but he isn’t. That was his choice.
The definitive site explaining membership though not specific to Obama is
https://harvardlawreview.org/about/#membership
incorrect. I know from experience that you either grade onto law review, or if your grades are almost good enough, you may “write on” to law review, in competition with the others close students. The best papers from the “write on” cohort are selected by the editorial staff on the law review. I don’t recall if the vote was blind, but the 3L editors didn’t know any of us 1L students, anyway.

Mark M – I sent the criteria for the Harvard Law Review, is that where you went?
Mark M…… don’t believe everything you read. The only person who thinks Obama was ever a “respected member of the bar”, is Obama and the political machine that created the fictional character.
Because I work with them, I know the Chicago Bar generally believes he was a lazy entitled pompous ass who rarely showed up to work and never tried a case. Suggesting he had any legal prowess is complete fiction. There is a reason you never hear of any legal brilliance, or even legal competence, coming from Chicago about the poor performer Obama.
The highest tenured faculty member at Chicago Law: “Professors hated him because he was lazy, unqualified, never attended any of the faculty meetings, and it was clear that the position was nothing more than a political stepping stool. He had the lowest intellectual capacity in the building. We also doubted whether he was legitimately an editor on the Harvard Law Review, because if he was, he would be the first and only editor of an Ivy League law review to never be published while in school (publication is or was a requirement).
Trump isn’t respected at the casino bar where he stiffed the workers just like the other mobsters did.
No, tweeting distracts from Trump’s incredible ineptitude and plain stupidity, while he golfs and panders to the mega wealthy. Why is it that the simple minded just love royalty?
Same old bacon burger. nothing but lots of fat and no lean. When you gonna quit describing your loser leaders and changing the names? Didn’t Yoda Lykoff teach you any better? hmmmm come to think of Lykoff is not the brightest bulb himself.
