The California State Senate is considering a bill that would make it a crime to “willfully and repeatedly” refuse “to use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns” in a public health, retirement or housing institution. State Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) has introduced SB 219 with a variety of transgender protections but the pronoun controversy is likely to get the most attention. Violators face a year in jail and a potential $1000 fine. The criminalization of pronoun misuse however could raise serious free speech and other constitutional concerns.
The bill imposes the limitations on long-term care facilities and staff but critics believe that it will lay the foundation for a broader law to apply to public schools and other facilities. The law states in part:
(a) Except as provided in subdivision (b), it shall be unlawful for a long-term care facility or facility staff to take any of the following actions wholly or partially on the basis of a person’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) status:. . .(3) Where rooms are assigned by gender, assigning, reassigning, or refusing to assign a room to a transgender resident other than in accordance with the transgender resident’s gender identity, unless at the transgender resident’s request.(4) Prohibit a resident from using, or harass a resident who seeks to use or does use, a restroom available to other persons of the same gender identity, regardless of whether the resident is making a gender transition or appears to be gender-nonconforming. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, requiring a resident to show identity documents in order to gain entrance to a restroom available to other persons of the same gender identity.(5) Willfully and repeatedly fail to use a resident’s preferred name or pronouns after being clearly informed of the preferred name or pronouns.(6) Deny a resident the right to wear or be dressed in clothing, accessories, or cosmetics that are permitted for any other resident.
This politician has found a way to appeal to a narrow constituency. If s/he wasn’t a cowardly, oily puppet, s/he would introduce legislation to help close the huge gap between the 1% and the 99% of the populace.

You want to be careful when dealing with words. There was and remains absolutely nothing socialist about the nazis. The nazis were and remain rooted in racism, bigotry, close mindedness, etc. There was also nothing socialist about the Soviet Union. There are always exceptions, however, white supremacists, KKK, nazis tend, in large, to hand out there on the right. The big difference between the two sides in the most recent melee is that one, the left was protesting against the seclusion of people into ethnic, racist, etc groups and the other, the right, was protesting for these separations. One or two apples with some edible flesh does not negate the fact that the barrel is primarily rotten and soon will be all rotten. Unfortunately in this country where everything seems to come down to one or the other side, there is no place for the nazi that likes Sanders. The reasons are obvious: oligarchy, paid lobbyists, bought and paid for representatives, special interests’ disproportionate influence-both left and right, or the status quo without which America would have a chance for a true democracy. It’s done successfully among our peer nations. America must ask itself why it is an oligarchy and not a democracy. There is the first and most important topic to discuss. All this chaff regarding what is or is not free speech and adjusting terminology only serves to mask America’s real problems-oligarchy, not democracy, two parties/choices one more than a dictatorship, representation for sale.

One time many years ago I had two vendors supplying pop and beverages for a business I owned. I contracted with four or five vendors for several SKUs. Everything went well, until one of them became greedy and insisted that in order to continue to receive my volume wholesale discount, I had to give them 75% of the refrigerator shelf space for their products.
I called up the regional saleswoman and asked her if I interpreted their letter correctly. She confirmed it was the case: 75% of the shelf space or a 30% increase in wholesale price. I told her that I was unwilling to crowd other products out to give her company a majority of the shelf space. She wouldn’t budge so I fired them, telling her to pick up their refers in one week or they could find them on the loading dock. Now instead of having a bigger shelf space they got nothing. No sales and no promotion. It cost them thousands of dollars in sales every two months. My customers simply bought the other products in its place.
People can only be dicked around so much before they had enough. If these social justice warriors keep shoving this inanity in everyone’s face they too will find themselves on a loading dock waiting for mommy to come pick them up.
That is exactly the way to handle people like that. Who, I suspect was Coca-Cola.
