Turley Addresses Federal Bar Association In Chicago

I have the honor of addressing the Federal Bar Association (Chicago) at its annual meeting today.  It is a particular pleasure to come to Chicago and spend time with my 91 year old mother and siblings.  I was able to watch the Blackhawks on television with my mom last night in the first game of the season.  Today, I will be speaking on the Supreme Court and the unfolding Kavanaugh nomination.

Obviously, the topic cannot be more topical or controversial.  The vote is, as expected, coming down to four senators as the country seems polarized by the decision.

  1. Ah! The North Shore, where it’s known for making lots of noise and Chicago, the Windy City. It is a beautiful city nowadays.

Operation Greylord stunned folks all over the U.S. Remember that, Jonathan? 92 public officials were indicted. It took 3 1/2 years of undercover work. Apparently Terry Hake openly expressed his frustration about the bribing going on in the courts one day, the FBI heard about it and they enrolled numerous officials to pull off the sting.

One judge resisted going undercover for fear it would end his career. What does that tell you about the level of integrity the judiciary didn’t have?

Jonathan, should the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee be allowed to anoint his son, a lawyer, to chair the state commission that is responsible to recommend candidates to that Senator for positions on the federal bench, especially where said son/lawyer tries cases? What would it look like if son went on to try cases before those very same approved candidates/judges? What would it look like if son won hundreds of millions of dollars from favorable decisions rendered by those very same handpicked judges?

  2. I thought Turley said that Kavanaugh’s demeanor or temperament made him unfit. Let’s see what he says in his talk.

    1. When has Turley ever argued in front of him?

Again, you don’t want the outrage, quit being outrageous. Passive-aggresive fraud.

  3. Everybody knows the controversial Judge will be confirmed. Let’s see how you defend his nomination and confirmation despite of the hundreds of legal scholars AND a retired Justice who are opposed to his confirmation. Can’t wait to hear it.

    1. The hundreds of legal scholars and the retired judge indubitably are objecting for ignoble reasons, and are properly ignored.
