Michigan Town Bans Clown Costumes From Annual Halloween Celebration To Protect People With Clown Phobias

Unknown-1It appears that city officials in Oak Park, Michigan do not have enough crimes or infrastructure issues to address.  The officials took it upon themselves to outlaw clown halloween costumes because they are just too scary.  The illogic of the measure is only equalled by its futility.  It is precisely the type of measure that characterizes the “nanny state” where officials impose their own whims and will on citizens.  The ban from the Halloween celebration is meant to protect “people [with] phobias and anxiety about clowns.”

The ban was imposed in anticipation of

The city’s public invitation expressly states that “clown costumes are not allowed.”

Laurie Stasiak, the city’s recreation director, told the Oakland County Times that “In the past few years many clown costumes have been given a very scary and evil look.  Many scary and horror movies are centered around these types of characters.  About 3 years [ago] there were national incidents in the news were people were dressing up as clowns and scaring people and in some cases assaulting them.  Many people have phobias and anxiety about clowns.  It’s because of this that we asked people not to dress up as clowns for this community event.”

So how about those people with phobias of vombies?  In my case, I have an intense and demonstrated anxiety over public officials who try to regulate every aspect of human existence.

  1. OT: Anybody think the fake bomb mailings are a tad too convenient for the Left’s midterm fortunes? The NYT says the powder and the components are fake and the mailer licked the stamps.

    1. For me I’ll await more information once the investigation is complete but I will state that I believe it more likely I won’t be surprised by whatever result the investigators announce.

The guy taped a digit clock around PVC pipe filled with white powder and glass. That’s only done in the movies. You don’t need some clock to detonate devices now. That’s McGyver crapola.

        1. PVC pipe? I thought iron pipe was used to control the pressure until the energy was highly explosive. I don’t claim any expertise, but plastic pipe would likely crack before a significant pressure build up. I’m wondering if this was some DNC employee trying to create sympathy for his cause. Leftists are known for fake victimization stunts, especially gays and blacks. Plus a DNC activist would have access to the home addresses of these targets. Who else would know the home addresses of Hillary, Maxine, Barrak, etc?

          1. TIN – their home addresses are sure not on my Roledex. I am keeping an open mind about this. Plus, they are fake bombs, which is suspicious.

    2. If he actually did lick the stamps, he’s toast if…

      1. He’s been incarcerated at some point in the last dozen years or;

      2. His uncle registered for 23andMe.

My wager is that security cameras at the post office where these were mailed may sink him.

      1. Washington Post says they were “forever stamps,” which means they were stickies, not lickers. But it’s still early and we’re getting conflicting info.

          1. According to CNN, it’s Trump’s fault, and he needs to apologize.

We are living in some seriously strange times. So of course if nothing is making sense, then why not claim it’s President Trump’s fault.

A month ago we had lawmakers on Capitol Hill arguing an accused no longer has the presumption of innocence. We have former presidential candidates and many others openly declaring the end of civility until Democrats get the power back. We have cities and states where they are openly protecting people from law enforcement who are in our country illegally. They are providing taxpayer funded benefits to these illegal aliens. They are registering them to vote. And they are appointing them to public office. We have Antifa assaulting people on the streets of Portland, OR and the police do nothing to stop them. We have the Left claiming everything President Trump is doing is destroying the country. Yet the former President is out on the campaign trail telling anyone within earshot (including the fawning media) that whatever good is happening in our economy is the result of Obama’s policies. So of course logically, if it’s good it’s Obama; if it’s bad it’s Trump. Yeah, sure thing. And so much more.

So yes, it’s President Trump’s fault. He should never have run for President. He should not have campaigned, especially in the states Clinton chose not to campaign in. That wasn’t fair. He should not have won. He should not have been inaugurated. He should not do what he’s doing or say what he’s saying. He should not nominate anyone for anything. He should not be on the campaign trail.

Bottom line: President Trump owes an apology to anti-Trumpers because that’s the only thing that makes sense to those living in an alternate state of reality.

        1. lick it and stick it? i can’t place the phrase but for some reason it reminds me of the Dionysian revels of long ago, in my intemperate youth

    3. mespo……..oh hell yes! Of course this is Dimocrat self-imposed political voodoo . Their orchestration would be breathtaking were it not for the fact they can only play one note….They are so transparent that the word transparent loses all meaning in reference to them. Believe me, I know them…….they are the political thugs what brung me to the dance. Luckily, I found another ride home.

  2. I’m proposing that my local city council ban people from dressing up as nationally prominent politicians and their spouses, or anyone else apt to jump out of the bushes and shout “We’re the government and we’re here to HELP!”

  3. What about the arachnophobes? Are no scary costumes allowed, at all, or are they just singling out clowns?

What am embarrassing move. It portrays the town as unstable.

  4. A clown is a clown..
Its a clown all the way…
    From its first smiling face…
    To it’s last dying day.

  5. This is not dissimilar to the egregiously unconstitutional acts of “Crazy Abe” Lincoln during his communistic “Reign of Terror”:

    – Prosecuting an unconstitutional war, not declared by Congress, against a sovereign foreign nation.

    – Issuing an unconstitutional proclamation in a condition of secession not rebellion or insurrection.

    – Unconstitutionally confiscating private property.

    – Unconstitutionally suspending Habeas Corpus

“Crazy Abe” was directly influenced by European associates of Karl Marx, communists, who had fled prosecution for acts of rebellion and immigrated to Illinois.

    “Lincoln Was A Marxist”

“Unless, of course, we bother to examine the tattered copies of the American outlet for Marx’s revolutionary preachments during the period when Lincoln was preparing to leave the political wilderness and make his march to the presidency. That journal, the New York Tribune, was the most consistently influential of nineteenth-century American newspapers. Indeed, this was the newspaper that engineered the unexpected and in many ways counterintuitive delivery of the Republican nomination for president, in that most critical year of 1860, to an Illinoisan who just two years earlier had lost the competition for a home-state U.S. Senate seat…

Lincoln’s involvement was not just with Greeley but with his sub-editors and writers, so much so that the first Republican president appointed one of Greeley’s most radical lieutenants—the Fourier- and Proudhon-inspired socialist and longtime editor of Marx’s European correspondence, Charles Dana—as his assistant secretary of war.

Long before 1848, German radicals had begun to arrive in Illinois, where they quickly entered into the legal and political circles in which Lincoln traveled. One of them, Gustav Korner, was a student revolutionary at the University of Munich who had been imprisoned by German authorities…

Within a decade, Korner would pass the Illinois bar, win election to the legislature and be appointed to the state Supreme Court. Korner and Lincoln formed an alliance that would become so close that the student revolutionary from Frankfurt would eventually be one of seven personal delegates-at-large named by Lincoln to serve at the critical Republican State Convention in May 1860, which propelled the Springfield lawyer into that year’s presidential race. Through Korner, Lincoln met and befriended many of the German radicals who, after the failure of the 1848 revolution, fled to Illinois and neighboring Wisconsin. Along with Korner on Lincoln’s list of personal delegates-at-large to the 1860 convention was Friedrich Karl Franz Hecker, a lawyer from Mannheim who had served as a liberal legislator in the lower chamber of the Baden State Assembly before leading an April 1848 uprising in the region—an uprising cheered on by the newspaper Marx briefly edited during that turbulent period, Neue Rheinische Zeitung—Organ der Demokratie.

The failure of the 1848 revolts, and the brutal crackdowns that followed, led many leading European radicals to take refuge in the United States, and Lincoln’s circle of supporters would eventually include some of Karl Marx’s closest associates and intellectual sparring partners, including Joseph Weydemeyer and August Willich.”

America is communist because “Crazy Abe” Lincoln and his successors were communists.

The “Reconstruction Amendments” are unconstitutional to this day. The 14th nullifies the very Constitution and preposterously denies the freedom to legislate executed, in fact, by the very American Founders who wrote the Constitution, as thrice demonstrated in the Naturalization Acts of 1790, 1795 and 1802, which required citizens to be “…free white person(s)…” No amendment is constitutional which nullifies the very Constitution itself. The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments were simply “adopted” and not “properly” ratified.

President Trump must issue a “proclamation” and/or executive order to correct the Lincoln crimes, restore the Constitution and Bill of Rights and repeal all subsequent antithetical and unconstitutional amendments.

Ben Franklin, 1789, we gave you “…a republic, if you can keep it.”

Ben Franklin, 2018, we gave you “…a republic, if you can take it back.”

  6. It appears that Jonathan Turley is just Making Stuff Up.

More fact checking, Jonathan Turley; less bloviating.

  7. I may go to Detroit and dress up as myself, eat some coney dogs or saganaki, and play cards at a casino. Lots of fun in Detroit. But Oak Park is just not a destination. the only Oak Park i ever heard of before today is in Chicago. Oak Park Michigan is just more sprawl.

  8. The only clowns that are harmful are the ones who created these rules.

Everyone in attendance should dress as a clown and dare city officials to make an arrest.

  9. I’m only afraid of fat, orange rodeo clowns who brag about grabbing women by the genitals and who consort with porn stars and Playboy models.

    1. I take it it’s never occurred to anyone to grab any part of you.

  10. Apparently, Turely didn’t realize that the ban was (it has been rescinded) only for a single event that is designed for young children. (It’s called the “Boo Bash.”) There’s nothing wrong with banning costumes that might scare young children, if the ban is limited to a particular event. This was hardly a case of “public officials who try to regulate every aspect of human existence.”

  11. My son went out on two occasions as a headless man. We duct taped a cardboard set of shoulders that sat on top of his head and shoulders and covered the whole thing with one of my old raincoats. The result was a headless man with a goofy kid’s head sticking out of the chest, held up by two arms with padded gloves. The effect was extremely real and startling as well as cute and funny, given the context. Some houses gave over a room designed as a monster’s operating room with dismembered body parts and red paint everywhere. That is the point of Halloween and other celebrations that exorcise our daily demons, turn the world upside down, etc. This banning of stuff is anti human. If you’re afraid of clowns, stay home. It is fascist for a minority to oppress all. As far as being Democratic, the most opposition to Halloween and other pagan stuff comes from Conservative Religious Republican groups. But that doesn’t feed the anti-Democrat bias of Turley’s minions. The culprits are the extremists on both fringes. Those that use these extremists to represent the ‘other side’ are the dupes that lap up Trump’s lies and BS.

      1. Squeeky – children like to be like their parents when they are young. 😉

      2. @Sqeeky-I can’t stop laughing 😂. That has to be the best reply yet, too funny.

    1. its mostly protestant evangelicals. most Catholics, even if not hispanic, are aware of the literal meaning of All Hallow’s Eve, that is, the day before All Soul’s day, a Catholic feast day, when we pray for the souls of the dead.

there is a foolishness in some evangelical cliques that Rome is the whore of Babylon and some other such nonsense which posits that Halloween is a Popish approval to witchcraft and paganisms

but the evangelicals are not entirely off base; there are many pagan-syncretic elements in Catholicism.

The autumnal equinox this year was Sept 23.

  12. In fairness to the municipal council, it appears this was an executive decision by the director of recreation, since rescinded. The director said she’d gotten parent complaints about clown costumes. I bet she got two complaints, from well known sources of socially sanctioned aggression.

  13. The pre-political and extra-political occupations of the five members of the Oak Park City [sic] Council are:

    1. Schoolteacher
    2. Schoolteacher / social worker
    3. NGO functionary
    4. Trial lawyer
    5. Trial lawyer

    1. Its a Detroit suburb. I have been to Detroit countless times and many of its suburbs.
Oak Park is not one of them. There is zero reason to visit Oak Park. SNAFU

  14. Why would any person of intelligence or insight ever remain a Democrat, beyond comprehension. Walked away from that party 14 years ago. They have shown themselves to be corrupt, hateful, vengeful and even dangerous. Democrats are the real racist party. All one has to do is read the history of the Party, maybe that’s the problem not enough interest in seeking the truth get their education via the Liberal biased media, & dimwit entertainers. History is being rewritten by the Communist educators in our schools or not being taught at all, alas.

    1. ‘Why would any person of intelligence or insight ever remain a Democrat, beyond comprehension.’

Obviously, because of imbeciles like Trump, McConnell, Graham, Inhofe, DeSantis, Cruz, etc. Does that answer your question?

In this undemocractic oligarchy that American dupes call the world’s most democratic nation, we have two choices and unfortunately it ends up being the lesser of the puppet evils.

  15. Seems to me that a couple of years ago people dressed up like clowns and were assaulting people in Oak Park.

  16. The townspeople should dress like Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer or Obama that should scare the hades out of anyone.

    1. Replace the clown costumes with masks of each of the five members of the municipal council.

      1. Tabby – You can go out on Halloween as a faux economist, and go door-to-door begging for cat food, crackers and port wine. 🤡

        1. Sure thing. The one time of year to be something you’re not. You for instance could go as a wealthy private practice attorney with an impeccable court record and the highest rating from the ABA. Take pictures.

          1. Olly – Thanks for the idea! I’m going to go as Brett Kavanaugh, so that everyone will keep their daughters home, and there will be twice as much candy for me! 😹😹😹

            1. You’re welcome! Add that candy to what you’ve earned on billable hours and at least you’ll have the candy.
